  • Easy access to WWII memorials, Luxembourg and Liège
  • Mini golf course, communal barbecues and well-equipped cafeteria

Off to the Ardennes? Stop off at Camping de Renval for a countryside stay in splendidly green scenery between Liège and Luxembourg, at the crossroads between northern and southern Europe and less than a kilometre from Battle of the Bulge town Bastogne.

De Renval is a peaceful and spacious site, with roomy pitches, a small fishing pond, a pétanque court and a mini golf course for your leisurely pleasure. Entertainment and activities are organised during the summer holidays.

Communal barbecue facilities are on site for sorting out the food, along with a well-equipped cafeteria with a terrace, a good range of Belgian beer and a wine cellar that most certainly bears interested investigation. Theme nights and live music are frequently held.

Amenities on site include two heated shower and toilet blocks with hot water and sinks, hairdryers and a washing machine and dryer. Free wifi is available throughout.

All this is handily set with easy access to shops and facilities including tennis courts, beauty salons and a petrol station; cafés, restaurants and a sports centre with pool are in town at Bastogne 900 metres away.

Showers were ok, little bar onsite ok

    Disliked:

No drinking water stand point at all for campers, you were expected to take water from the place where caravan people clean out their toilets. Disgusting.
Secondly camp was full of Irish traveller gipsys, who kept everybody disturbed with loud music and raucous behavior.

Located close to the town of Bastogne, this camp site offers good facilities in terms of showers, water & electricity hook ups. However, if you do require access to electricity, make sure to get a spot with electricity hook up as not all the camping spots had them. Other than that, the guy who ran the place was really decent and overall would recommend it.

Pitches were reasonably flat shady and had good power supply. there was washing facilities near by and showers. I only used the pot wash facility, which had lukewarm water, so can't comment on the showers. The location was easily accessed virtually straight off a motorway. It had good sports / entertainment facilities ( crazy golf , tennis adventure play area for kids).
We even picked up a couple of bargains from the C&A store just outside the site 100 yards away along the main road.
Wi-Fi was free and ok for browsing and emails etc, but I tried streaming UK TV and it wouldn't allow it, or it was not up to speed

    Disliked:

Arrival was late and the auto barrier was down, reception closed but had an answerphone machine I didn't understand. somebody eventually came and showed me to our pitch. The next day wanting to leave early, we couldn't because the reception was closed again at 8am and the barrier down we couldn't get out. Management finally arrived and I paid the remaining balance of my stay, however we had already planned to return for our last night before the ferry home, so I paid in advance and was given the barrier code for my return.
When we returned late afternoon, it wasn't late but reception was closed again, Some work member of staff came but left me to my own devices once more, having stayed previously I went to where we had pitched and hooked up settling in. The next morning we left having seen nobody, because the reception was closed once more, but I had paid and had the barrier code, so we left.
Having all these problems, I would know for the future and come back, to use only passing through en route to my destination. I would ask for my pitch number and make sure I knew the code for the entry and exit barriers.
The on site bar / café was really just a bar. I asked in my school boy French what time the kitchen was closed and got the response it was ok anytime, alas when we came back we were told, it was chips and meatballs or nothing because the kitchen was closed, so we got up and walked away. There appeared to be a café opposite the campsite on the other side of the main road, but no way was I attempting to cross with a partially sighted wife, there was no crossing point.
As for water, I have seen this on other camping sites, not just here, but I take a personal dislike to having fresh water at a motorhome waste service point, for fear of abuse and contamination, so I avoided filling up here.
Taking all this on board and knowing what to expect, Like I said previously, I would return as a stop over.

Local attractions

The lively town of Bastogne is less than a kilometre from Camping de Renval and famed for its role in the Battle of the Bulge, when it was besieged by German troops for a week in December 1944.

The Mardasson Memorial, commemorating the role of American soldiers who died or were wounded during the Battle of the Bulge, is one of the several World War II memorials and museums in town: see also the 101st Airborne Museum, covering the 1944 siege; the tanks and military vehicles of the Bastogne Barracks museum, and the recreation of the Battle of the Bulge at the Bastogne War Museum.

Also in town, have a look at the fourteenth century walls the Porte de Trèves and then the Middle Ages font and Romanesque tower of St Pierre's Church, followed by a coffee and a lounge around the town's Carré square.
