General

  • Family-friendly site
  • Pets are welcome

Riverside Caravan and Camping Park is a four-acre site near the ancient market town of Builth Wells, Powys. Whether it's fishing, paddling in the river or just walking the dog, the site offers fun for all the family. You can enjoy the picnic and barbecue area or watch the children play on the swings and slide.

The campsite also offers a covered washing-up area, washing machine, tumble dryer, a spotlessly clean toilet block and a microwave oven, fridge and freezer. There are also facilities for pony trekking with a local club. The Cammarch Hotel which is situated not far from the entrance to the site is now serving meals and drinks.

After a good stay at this campsite, there is no hurry to leave on the day of departure. Some people make the best of it and stay until early evening.

Pitches were pretty level and well kept grass areas. There is a covered meeting area with tables and chairs. If you had forgotten to bring anything, power cable too short or run out of gas [ as we did ] Barrie or Pauline, the owners, would really try to get you fixed up. Not a noisy site, very clean, really safe site, with very nice people who would chat at a drop of a hat. It was nice to hear and see children playing in the different play areas and the river nearby. Barrie and Pauline would walk around the site friendly chatting and asking if there were any problems they could possibly help with, very nice.

    Disliked:

Not really a TOURING park as there were too many sited seasonal caravans, about 38 in number. Some in their immediate areas were kept tidy but others tragically not so, sorry to say all to common on many sites. Nearest store in the area for shopping was Builth Wells [ I'm pretty sure if you did need anything urgently Barrie and Pauline would try to fix you up ].

The friendly owners, they welcomed us and were very helpful. The resident caravaners were also very friendly. The free use of a fridge, freezer and microwave was a great help. The pitches were large and nicely spaced out. The area had stunning views and was very quaint, if you like walking you'll love it. There is a wooden shelter available for use and this proved to be very handy due to the amount of rain we had (it could do with a little attention). The site was very reasonably priced and that's what attracted us, Pauline and Barry are lovely and even deducted some of our fee when we gave into the Welsh rain and went home early.

    Disliked:

Being so remote from everywhere, I do how ever appreciate that this is not the site's fault. The showers and dish washing facilities were clean and looked after but the hot water pressure was very low. Nothing else to dislike a lovely site.

From the manager...

we are remote, but most people that come here are aware of that, its the attraction for most, the pressure in the hot water, was a shower head in one of the ladies showers, as soon as it was brought to our attention it was fixed,& the leak in the roof of the gazebo, i got to hold my hand up to that....but needs to be a dry spell to fix it, although the Gazebo is plenty big enough to avoid that..there was around 10 campers cooking breakfast under there one wet morning

I originally came to this site about 12 years ago, as a camper with 2 boys, we then moved onto buying a tourer and then a tourer on a permanent pitch, as you have probably gathered, we love the site and all the people who make it so much fun and involve every one in anything that might be happening. Barry and Pauline the owners are so friendly and welcoming.
The sight is flat, and the facilities are always kept clean.
The sight is dog friendly (we have a dog) but they are expected to be kept on a lead. There are neighbouring fields next to the site where dogs aren't allowed, but this is due to the farmer that owns the fields who has sheep/ cows in there! But there are plenty of lovely walks in the area, and there is a leaflet that Barry and Pauline have that has quite a lot short and long walks in it.
There is a somewhere to eat and drink (The Cammarch) also dog friendly. And the Spa hotel about a mile from the site (The Lake Hotel) if you fancy a really nice treat.
And there many other pubs that do food, and some of these are dog friendly.(within 3 miles)

Friendly welcome; clean toilet facilities; flat area to pitch tent on.

    Disliked:

Not that dog-friendly given that we were told that if we let our dog off lead in the area it would most likely be shot. Lack of good walking on lead routes. Nowhere to eat within walking distance of the site; not even a chip shop. We had to drive to Builth Wells (16 miles round trip after a journey of nearly 3 hours) to find food and an area in which to exercise our dog.

From the manager...

You was told, if the dog was off a lead & worried sheep, the farmer has a right to shoot it, it has never happened yet, as most people are responsible dog owners, its better to say something than not. there are miles of dog walks around here, loads of them in the forest,, there is the Cammarch Hotel within 300 yrs that do food & is dog friendly, or you are spoiled for choice within 3 miles, & they do take aways no need to go to Builth Wells. although that would be the closest fish & chip shop. This was the first time these People had been camping & was disappointed that they couldnt let there dog on its own around the site before they went to bed. Pauline did make a comment after she had booked her in....what a lovely girl
