Riverside Caravan and Camping Park: Gravel & Grass

General

  • Family-friendly site 15 minutes' drive from Builth Wells
  • Elan Valley and Brecon Beacons within a half-hour drive
  • On the banks of the River Irfon for fishing and wild swimming

There are many things that draw people to seek out riverside spots for their hols – you may fancy a bit of fishing, or perhaps you’ve got an eye on the scenic picnic potential, or maybe you secretly (or not so secretly) just yearn to get in for a wild swim…

Whichever of the above you’ve got in mind matters not, for they’re all covered at Powys site Riverside Caravan and Camping Park, in little Llangammarch Wells and 15 minutes’ drive from the ancient market town of Builth Wells. As the name intimates, this four-acre park is indeed on the riverside – the banks of the Irfon river, to be more specific. Fishing is allowed on site for those clutching the correct permit, and there’s direct access to the water for those who want to cool their feet with a tentative paddle or take the plunge for a full-on swim.

There’s plenty of space for open-air eats too, either a picnic or a cookout at the barbecue area; covered gazebos have also been set up just in case the weather isn’t amenable (and they’re also piled high with handy things like games of giant Jenga, footballs, hula hoops and an electricity supply for recharging your gadgets).

Time out in the open air might include watching over the kids at the playground, taking the dog for a walk along the riverbank from the village or around one of the other excellent dog-walking spots locally (there’s a washing machine on site to deal with any muddy pawprints they leave you with) or heading over to the local pub (a few minutes' drive). Being in a dark sky area, there's often also some fab stargazing to be had by night.

Had a brilliant stay at Riverside! It's a beautiful setting for a peaceful escape, which was exactly what I wanted.
Lovely owner James greeted me, showed me to my pitch, and explained where everything was. The whole site is flat and level, well laid out with plenty of open space. My pitch had a large gravel area to park my campervan on, and spacious grass for my awning and for sitting out. Shower/toilet block is immaculate and cleaned frequently. Dishwashing sinks have plenty of hot water. Good recycling and grey water facilities.
Enjoyed watching the pheasants and red kites from my pitch, and even spotted a kingfisher by the river. The scenery is absolutely wonderful.
There's a small shop and Post Office in Llangammarch Wells village a few minutes stroll away - I found it great for getting a newspaper and basic supplies without moving the van (check opening times). Also stocked up at the marvellous convenience stores at Llanwrtyd Wells.
I've already re-booked for a longer stay to explore the area in the spring - can't wait to return to Riverside. Thank you very much James, Danielle, and family!

Riverside location. Flat pitches and lovely views. Clean shower block, however 50p to have a shower for 5 mins.
The village pub/restaurant is closed but hoping to re-open in 2023.
To access the riverside walks with dogs you have to walk back into the village and go through a gate by the river bridge. Lovely walk from there along.

Good directions, easy to find site. Stunning river side location, with Red Kite birds of pray flying above. Ther is also a good number of phesants roaming the site.
Lovely walks in the area, with just the best mountain views.
The site was the cleanest we have ever stayed in. 50p for the showers which had lovely hot water. seperate area away from the motorhomes & tents for your rubbish which is recycled as much as possible, carboard, plastic, glass etc.
The hosts were happy, smiling and welcoming.
Our motorhome pitch was a newly stoned area next to a grass patch perfect to set up our awning.
We met a resident on the site so lovely to chat too about the area, walks in the area. so friendly and helpful.
On the drive to the site views of the Mendip hills/mountains were breath taking.we loved this site and will visit again

The whole site ! It was immaculate 🥰

This weekends adventures took us to the extremely quiet village of Llangammarch Wells and the fantastic campsite called @riverside_caravan_camping_park ! The village was way too quiet for us. No pubs, no shops but amazing walks to get out with the dog. The site however was absolutely amazing ! James and his team had thought of things to make the stay a little easier. We hired a fire pit and marshmallows from the site but you could also hire just the pit, buy bags or ice and even tip tops on hot days. The shower/toilet block was amazingly clean and the grounds where exceptional. The fact that the site is gated made us feel extra safe 😊 The site runs alongside a river which I imagine on sunny days gives the kids hours of fun. The site also has a hut with toys that could be borrowed and a covered communal area with picnic benches for the not so sunny days. Another highlight was the egg man ! He comes with the boot of his car open ringing his bell to let people know he’s there. In his boot was chicken and duck eggs, chutneys and jams. ❤️ This site definitely didn’t disappoint ! We shall certainly be visiting again ⛺️📍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 #campinglife #tentbox #tentboxlite #tentboxliteorange #llangammarchwells

Advertised as having a pub 5 minutes walk away which was the selling point for us to have some decent food. Arrived to be told pub hadn't been open for a long time! No shop on site either!! Had to go back out and drive 3 miles just to get some food. Wouldn't have booked if we'd known this. Web page needs to reflect accuracy!
