General

  • Quiet wildlife haven by the River Ithon
  • Free fishing on site
  • Licensed bar with Welsh beers, malt whiskies and more

Now this is a site that's fully in tune with its surroundings... peaceful and sheltered Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is in a wildlife haven on the banks of the River Ithon, where red kites and buzzards hover overhead and where you might catch a glimpse of the resident otter or kingfisher.

Grayling trout fishing is available on site too and is free for guests; just remember to bring your rod licence. Junior explorers enjoy seeing what they can uncover in the depths with a net here as well; no licence required.

(If angling's your thing, this is the area for it: the River Ithon is a tributary of the mighty River Wye, one of the best spots in the country for fishing and visited by anglers the world over to land salmon and trout from its waters.)

Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is also quite in tune with what guests might fancy on hol, as it has a licensed bar on site with a good selection of Welsh beers and malt whiskies, as well as soft drinks, tea and coffee. Its well-kept amenities are in a modern log cabin with individual rooms, all with a toilet and washbasin and most also with a shower. Laundry and dishwashing facilities are also provided on site.

Please note

Facilities/activities including wachine machines are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The location was really convenient to get to, but felt like you were miles from anywhere in a lovely secluded spot and it was a joy to be surrounded by birdsong.
The facilities were fantastic, great showers, good washing up/laundry facilities and I liked that there were separate rubbish types for recycling. We also had a little trip to "the Boardroom" bar and enjoyed a couple of bottled beer.
We visited on a bit of a tour of Wales and this was the only place we chose to stay at for 2 days, enjoying a lovely trip to Elan valley.

The owners of Disserth are wonderful and always happy to talk, and made us feel comfortable and welcome from the outset. It's a beautiful location with St Cewydd's church just over the wall, and the sound of birdsong as your alarm clock is a wonderful treat and something we really appreciated. The proximity of the river Ithon, the friendliness of the other guests and the stunning setting are just a few of the many reasons why we'll be back to holiday here again. The showers have excellent water pressure and the entire toilet/shower block is pristine and well provisioned. The washing up area is a lovely bonus. There is peace, quiet, and plenty of space, ideally located to explore the local area. If you're lacking any provisions or need to replenish any supplies, Newbridge-on-Wye and Llandrindod Wells are both a short drive away.

We stayed in the Pod and it was just right for our 2 night stay with everything we needed; a kettle and mugs for brewing up after a long hike, comfortable beds and a covered decking area to cook and eat al fresco. A stand out moment for us was on the Saturday night after walking in the Brecon Beacons, we'd returned (shattered, but happy) and cooked to the sound of bumblebees, the river rushing by and the company of an inquisitive robin. We have had a wonderful holiday, thank you!

Absolutely no complaints what so ever when it comes to Disserth Caravan and Camping Park, in fact we wish we stayed longer! We stayed in their Camping Pod which was perfect for the one night. The pod was dry, clean, had a light and even had a kettle and a couple of mugs which were greatly appreciated! The pod has a little porch area whereby you have a table and chairs and is perfect for chilling outside and enjoying the quietness of the park. The shower and toilet facilities were a lot better than expected - super clean, tidy and honestly nothing to grumble about at all. I know I only stayed the one night but each time the loo was visited, there was always toilet paper and hand wash to use. The shower and toilet facilities are that good, you can happily spend a week or longer at the park without any complaints regarding your personal hygiene. Park was lovely and small, not too many campers or caravans which meant it was extremely quiet of the night time. Honestly cant recommend this place enough! The owner was friendly and had no problem checking us in and showing us the pod at 7pm. Overall, a very good camping and caravan park that I hope to visit again.

From the manager...

Thank you for such a comprehensive review about our camping pod and the camping park, especially the toilet and shower facilities. It is also nice to hear from people who appreciate peace and quiet. On a clear night the sky full of stars is a fantastic sight when relaxing with a drink.

Continue southwards through Llandrindod Wells to Howey. Turn right at the road signed Newbridge on Wye/Disserth (opposite the white cottage). Follow the road for about a mile and the entrance to the caravan park is on the left by the church, immediately before the river bridge.

From the south
Leave Builth Wells heading north on the A470 and travel to Newbridge on Wye. At the New Inn in Newbridge on Wye, turn right onto the road signposted Llandrindod Wells and continue to the bend marked with hazard reflectors. Local attractions

Disserth Caravan and Camping Park is in a nifty spot to use as a base to tackle the walks and bike rides of mid-Wales, or for visiting the shows and events of the nearby Royal Welsh Showground. The Elan Valley and the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Gigrin Farm are ten minutes' drive to the north.

Also have a look at nearby Abbey Cym Hir Hall at Llandrindod Wells, a neo-Elizabethan country mansion built in the nineteenth century, and at the Judge's Lodgings in Presteigne, a recreation of a nineteenth century judge's house – courtroom included.

Llandrindod Wells has the National Cycle Collection of Wales in its National Cycle Museum as well as an 18-hole golf course.
