  • Mid-Wales countryside under an hour’s drive away from the Welsh coast
  • Family run for 15 years
  • Stables nearby

On your marks, get set, and CrinGOed to this friendly, family-orientated camping and caravan park sitting pretty in the mid-Wales countryside under an hour’s drive away from the Welsh coast.

A warm welcome from the owners awaits: they've been working hard for 15 years to perfect this family-run gem, leading to a well laid-out park set against spectacular woods. Comfort is the name of the game here: hot showers and electric hook-up is available as are dishwashing facilities, a laundry, chemical disposal point and access to wifi.

Kids will enjoy the play area and games room, and there’s even the chance to don your whites and try a swift knockaround with tennis also available on site. Well, it wouldn’t be a family holiday without spot of healthy competition, would it...? Dogs are allowed all year round too, so be sure to bring the pooch along to adjudicate.

Stables and a small brook close to the site also provide little nature lovers with plenty to see out and about, perfect for dousing them with a plentiful helping of fresh air and seeing that they can’t avoid a good night’s kip.

I booked at short notice i.e. 4 hours earlier, when I arrived I was pleasantly surprised, it is a beautiful site and so so quiet and peaceful, I did not see any children. Being so quite might be a put off, but not for me, it was fabulous, I could read my book without ever lifting my eyes over the top to see what the interuption is, as there was none. There is No signal for phones or radio so the only option is to pay for your WIFI, personal choice, I didn't as I thought it a welcome novalty.
I would definitely stay again, although would my Mrs cope without WIFI and Texts's Hmmmm?

    Disliked:

The Pod was a treat, my only trivial dislike was that the lighting in the Pod is not sufficient for reading and provides just a dim light. You either need to take your own lamp? or a torch?

Sometimes it's nice to get away from it all and this site was great for that. A quiet location. We had mixed weather and on the nice days our kids lived playing in the river a few steps away from where we pitched our tent. Site was relaxed and because it caters more for statics and caravans we were able to pitch our tent where we wanted. We booked electric pitch but with a long lead it was no problem. For couple of nights there was just our tent so it was really peaceful or as peaceful as 3 kids get. We had a car so because the site is a little remote we were able to go off where we wanted especially on the rainy days. We took a small fire pit and the kids loved this and toasting marshmallows each night. Overall a great stay that would have been even better with a couple more days of sun!

The Pod was such a relaxing experience definately worth an experience. The bed was extreamly comfortable with the pod being very clean and ready for us when we arrived. The toilet/showers are directly across from the pods which is great. We had access to a table and chairs inside and a picnic bench outside with a bbq area so we had definately overpacked :-). The park is so peacful that it definately helps you relax.

Spent a lovely Easter weekend camping at the Cringoed Caravan ... 25/04/2017

Spent a lovely Easter weekend camping at the Cringoed Caravan Park. As usual...when I decide to drag the family camping...the heavens opened, so we were the only ones daft enough to put up a tent in pouring down rain and had our pick of the field, which was nice and flat. Luckily for us there were nice clean showers with hot water to warm us up, and a washing machine and dryer to use if needed (only a couple of quid charge for these).
The campsite was basic...no clubhouse or games room...which meant my girls (9yrs & 12yrs) had to entertain themselves the old fashioned way...making friends, playing hide and seek, playing football on the small pitch (nets set up on there), playing on the climbing frame and their favourite...playing in the small stream that ran next to our tent...not a mobile phone or tablet in sight! :-)
The owners were lovely and very helpful and even arranged a Easter Egg Hunt on the Sunday for all the children...which was a blessing because I forgot to pack their Easter eggs, so it saved me from the title of bad mum of the year.
If you want to get away from it all with your family and just enjoy your surroundings and each other then this is a perfect place to be!

we were fortunate to be the only tent so had the entire space to ourselves and gorgeous sunshine all weekend topped it off a treat.
Wi-Fi is hit and miss but for its location we didn't expect to get any signal at all but we did.

Clean toilet facilities. Hot showers. Path to the pods meant no traipsing grass and mud into toilet block. So no hopping around trying to keep feet clean after shower. Pod was spacious, comfortable mattress. Pods faced the stream and away from other campers. Very useful to have kettle and Microwave in pod. All facilities just a few yards away. Perfect!

    Disliked:

Lighting in pod was not quite bright enough. Recommend taking own camping light

From the manager...

Directions

Cringoed is just about an hour from Shrewsbury and the M54 motorway and less than two hours from Birmingham, so we're easy to reach from most of the UK. From Welshpool, follow the A470 to Newtown, continue on towards Machynlleth, through the villages of Caersws, Clatter and Carno. At Llanbrynmair take the B4518 towards Llyn Clywedog and Staylittle.

Local attractions

Cringoed is at the gateway to Snowdonia, not far from the sea and the Cambrian Mountains, yet conveniently placed near to a myriad of main roads which makes exploring the surrounding area as relaxing as staying put on site.

One mile away you’ll find the village of Llanbrynmair with its convenience store and homely pub and just over 20 minutes away by car you’ll reach the slightly larger Machynlleth where you can stock up on all the essentials. After the mooching, coffee, cake and a good cask ale are surely in order and the cafés and pubs will be sure to serve your every holiday need. For a different kind of round, there’s a golf course too.

The Centre for Alternative Technology has made its home just on the outskirts of the town, so nip by there to pick up tips about green living from the best - and the interactive displays provide plenty to occupy little hands (and even feet).

For those in need of a fix of shopping, dining or maybe just a trip to the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth is about an hour’s drive south.

Join the Glyndŵr's Way nature trail from the site. From farmland to moorland, forests to lakes and reservoirs - you can explore the best of the Welsh countryside and get your fill of cultural and natural history as you follow the footsteps of Owain Glyndŵr. The hefty footpath runs for 135 miles - but for those (possibly many) who don’t fancy tackling the entire thing, stretches of it provide a challenging enough hike. For walkers wanting more, Snowdonia is also within easy reach.

Kids agitating for an adventure? Let off some steam at the Corris Railway - a day out here will be packed with more than enough factoids for them to choo through. First stop; the museum, then experience history in action on an impressive steam locomotive trip along the first narrow gauge railway in mid-Wales. Just check before you go for departure times and to find out which steam-haul services will be operating.

Day trip options are in abundance. Twitchers - check out the Red Kite Centre which is a 40-minute drive away and is a great conservation site where you can enjoy fantastic sights of some of our most stunning feathery friends.

Prefer more sea than sky? Aberdovey (also 40 minutes by car) has watersports from the high octane to the high relaxing - sailing, rowing, canoeing, fishing… take your pick. The award-winning beaches are ideal for those perfecting the art of spectating too.

Barmouth harbour, just under an hour to the west, also offers uncrowded beaches for you to take up your spot in the sunshine.

Must see

  • MOMA Wales - Y Tabernacl (8.5 miles)
  • Rheilffordd Talyllyn Railway (18.5 miles)
  • Powis Castle & Garden (21.0 miles)
