  • Dog-friendly Nolton Haven site five minutes' stroll from the beach
  • In Pembrokeshire Coast National Park; 20 minutes’ drive from St Davids
  • Firepits for hire on site; local pub within easy walking distance
Pick your way across coastal paths, alternate between dainty harbour towns and feathery sands, and pick your preferred spot in the meadow at Nolton Haven Bay Campsite – a mix of gentle slopes and flatter grounds, this dog-friendly site brings back to basics camping to St Brides Bay and the sheltered alcove of Nolton Haven in Pembrokeshire. A 20-minute drive from St Davids (a place of pilgrimage for the cathedral or wildlife-seeking boat rides), you’ll be well set here for all sorts of days out. And that includes buckets and spades at the beach, or swimming, boating and surfing on the waves, as this site is a mere five minutes’ stroll from the nearest sandy beach (and its public toilets). This site takes you back to basics, with simple facilities including toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Simply rock up, pick your plot, unpack and relax… and get your barbecues at the ready as they’re permitted at this laidback site. Firepits are available at a small price, with wood and kindling available on site too. After whiling away the day cycling, mountain biking or horse riding nearby (not forgetting fishing too, if you like), you can source food and drink at the pub and restaurant a few minutes' walk away. Handily, there’s also a food shop within five minutes’ drive, so if you prefer, you can grab a snack while you read your book back on site, watch the stars or sit back with a glass of wine.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Great campsite with lovely owners who were really accommodating in adding a small pop up tent on top of our original booking. Lovely welcome from the hosts fyi there are logs and fire pits available at £12 for the both. Toilets and showers were basic but very clean. Lots of recycling bins available, washing area for your cups pans cutlery etc with warm water also a supply or washing up liquid if you forget to pack some like me. The site is a bit hilly we managed to find a flatish spot near The top which looked down to the beach. Very close to the coastal path. About 10 mins drive away from haverford west which was great as needed a double blow up air bed at the last minute so flew down to Argos there plus there is a Lidl and morissons there too.

Local attractions

Surfers (or bodyboarders, for those newer to the waves) will want to capture the swell at Newgale beach (five minutes’ drive). Elsewhere, Little Haven (15 minutes) is a prime spot to reel in fish and Solva (15 minutes) has another small harbour with sailboats to go out to sea and a woollen mill and galleries on land. Marloes (25 minutes) is best known for its birdlife (bring the binoculars along) and its long stretch of sand is a magnet for watersports fans. Go puffin spotting on a boat trip around Skomer Island (35 minutes' drive and 10 minutes' ferry) or let the animals find you at Manor Wildlife Park’s walk-through zoo (40 minutes). For day trips, strap in for the rides at Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour’s drive) or tackle the slides and water rides at Blue Lagoon Water Park (half an hour). Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (35 minutes) is also within reach, with zoo animals and softer rides for littler kids not yet ready for the big coasters. Alternatively maybe you might want to tumble into prehistoric times on the rides at Prehistoric Dinosaur Park (40 minutes).
