Spacious super pitches

General

  • Family park a short stroll from the beach and 5 mins' drive to Tenby
  • Free evening entertainment: children welcome
  • Playground, games room, lounge bar and patio

There are some spectacular sands on the coast of west Wales. (And on the north and south coasts, but you can get to them on your next break.)

Make for Whitewell Holiday Park Caravan and Camping to be in the sandy thick of things in the west: this family-run site is five minutes' walk from the nearest beach and five minutes' drive to the sea fishing and award-winning sands of Tenby.

Whitewell's also close to fab family days out at the likes of Folly Farm, Heatherton World of Activities and Tenby's Dinosaur Park – if the kids aren't too tuckered out after a day at those, they're welcome at the lounge bar in the evenings to join in the entertainment: karaoke, disco, dancing, bingo and trivia evenings run in July and August.

All entertainment is included in the pitch price, and the lounge bar also has two large widescreen TVs to catch up on the latest from the outside world.

The shower block, next to the bar, has hot water, deep hot water basins and loos. The park also has a laundry room with storage, plus a playground and a games room with pool table and arcade games.

For food, meals and takeaways are available from the bar to have there or to take to the tables, chairs and umbrellas of the patio for alfresco eats.

Please note

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 31/08.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of the shower.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 1 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The bar is open every weekend outside school holidays and every night during school holidays.

Everywhere we visited off site !

I was walking my Labrador at 6.00 am . I’d just left our caravan with him on lead , going toward the dog walk, when out of no where came a ‘staff’ dog who went straight for my Labrador and bit his leg for no reason. My wife had to apply antiseptic cream and bandage the wound to stop the bleed. I rang the office number on the number I used when I booked the site. The person that answered said he was the owner of the caravan site and that this ‘staff’ was his dog, he had broken away from his lead and got out of the garden where he was kept. The conversation went on but he agreed to meet that afternoon so he could see the damage. Twice we went to the office and was told the owner was off site and not available. He had no intention of meeting us and not once did he make contact to see how our dog was. We spoke to another lady on site who stored her caravan there, she said this was not the first time this dog had attacked another dog. This needs to be stopped before a child is harmed. This ruined our holiday, our dog was not his happy self and the wound irritated.
On top of this the toilets and showers were not cleaned, the office often shut and the bar never open. The Wi-fi is free but there is no chance of signing in to it from the meadow where the routers are based. How can this site be advertised as it is , it does not match its description, we will never return there!

Paying for the showers as the cost of the pitch wasn't cheap to begin with. A bit of a lack of tidyness. The bins area was left in a bit of a state

Local attractions

There are some spectacular beaches around these parts, with the closest, Lydstep, less than half a mile away from Whitewell. Jetskis and kayaks can be hired here if you want to take to the water, and a couple of golf courses – from many in the area – are nearby.

Tenby, a few minutes' drive away, is worth at least a few days, on its North, South and Castle beaches, browsing around its shops, cafés and restaurants or taking a seal safari trip. From Tenby harbour, one of the most popular things to do in the area is the boat trip to tiny Caldey Island, one of the Holy Islands of Britain and still with a Trappist monk population. Tenby harbour is also where anglers go to cast off; sea angling trips are easy to organise from Tenby too.

Little monsters should enjoy playing among the dinosaurs in the woods at Tenby's Dinosaur Park where there are plenty of other things going on, like rides, indoor and outdoor play, a games garden and a mile-long dinosaur trail.

Just outside Tenby, Heatherton World of Activities and Manor Wildlife Park opposite will keep everyone busy for another day or two among the animals, paintballing and go-karting. After that, the animals and play of award-winning Folly Farm are about five miles from Tenby along the coast at Kilgetty.

Must see

  • Pembroke Castle (7.1 miles)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (8.5 miles)
  • Pembrey Country Park (19.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Tudor Merchant's House (2.6 miles)
  • Stackpole Estate (7.8 miles)
