General

  • Family park a short stroll from the beach and 5 mins' drive to Tenby
  • Free evening entertainment: children welcome
  • Playground, games room, lounge bar and patio

There are some spectacular sands on the coast of west Wales. (And on the north and south coasts, but you can get to them on your next break.)

Make for Whitewell Holiday Park Caravan and Camping to be in the sandy thick of things in the west: this family-run site is five minutes' walk from the nearest beach and five minutes' drive to the sea fishing and award-winning sands of Tenby.

Whitewell's also close to fab family days out at the likes of Folly Farm, Heatherton World of Activities and Tenby's Dinosaur Park – if the kids aren't too tuckered out after a day at those, they're welcome at the lounge bar in the evenings to join in the entertainment: karaoke, disco, dancing, bingo and trivia evenings run in July and August.

All entertainment is included in the pitch price, and the lounge bar also has two large widescreen TVs to catch up on the latest from the outside world.

The shower block, next to the bar, has hot water, deep hot water basins and loos. The park also has a laundry room with storage, plus a playground and a games room with pool table and arcade games.

For food, meals and takeaways are available from the bar to have there or to take to the tables, chairs and umbrellas of the patio for alfresco eats.

Too expensive, poor facilities, noisy location, take levellers.09/14/2020

The site location is good to explore this coastline.

    Disliked:

Very busy and noisy road close to the site where the grass serviced pitches are (The Meadows). ‘The Meadows’ and other pitches (some hard standing) have been mainly given over to seasonal pitches, leaving roughly 10 uneven pitches given to tourers. The toilet blocks are unacceptable when comparing to other sites we’ve been to. The toilets are dated, you need to pay for a shower, wash hand basins had a large roll of cheap paper tied up with plastic yellow string. The hand driers blew cold. During our stay half of the toilet cubicles were ‘out of use’. We were allocated a pitch that had x 2 large ruts caused by spinning wheels where a vehicle had been stuck and trying to get out of the pitch - I informed the office and nothing was done, but we asked for a pitch that looked better and there was no issue for us to change pitch. This an expensive site for tourers and definitely not worth paying- we will not be going back there :-(

The friendly staff, they were all really Polite and helpful.

the nice wide pitches Meant you had plenty of space.

the location, Within walking Distance of a lovely pebbly beach, the path we used isn’t easy to navigate for anyone with mobility issues, (coastal path) as it is quite steep, narrow and slippery in places, but we were ok.

the cleanliness, everywhere was kept nice and clean, including shower and toilet facilities.

the food in the bar was nice. It was basic bar meals, nothing fancy, but we enjoyed it.

    Disliked:

The large party that was allowed in the bar area on our last night there. A 40th birthday party with at least 20 people sat in one large group, which is supposed to be against the regulations for Wales in the current COVID situation. It is the only time we felt uncomfortable in our entire stay.

Grass was cut by St rimming, leave grass trimmings half way up the sides of our caravan, got into our water supply and took over an hour to clean off!!! Electric stopped working the day before we were leaving, we were told we should of had a card when we arrived.... The only thing we were told on arrival was, your up there no 32....no other details. We only had one more contact, a man abruptly asking us what we were doing there!!!

Cleanliness, staff friendly enough. Showers powerful. Bar looked good but didn’t use due to COVID. 5 mins from Tenby by Car.

    Disliked:

Quite pricey for location and available facilities. Walk to nearby beach is over a field and along a very steep costal path. No shop on site. Playgrounds are for geared around smaller children only. Showers £1 for 10mins. WiFi doesn’t reach touring pitches.

Tenby is the most popular local coastal town and this site is only five minutes drive from there which is useful. The roads in the area are very rural and therefore can be difficult to negotiate with a caravan. It also takes quite some time to travel relatively short distances to local tourist attractions. For instance we went to Saint Davids which is only 40 miles away that took about 1h15m to get there. But overall it is a beautiful area with stunning coastline and plenty of castles and history. The area is definitely worth visiting if you’ve not been there before. However, there are many different campsites in the area and I would suggest looking around at others as this one is not particularly good (see dislikes).

    Disliked:

We spent some time trying to select a site which looked suitable for our requirements of a fully serviced pitch on grass. This is what we booked, however on arrival we were told all these pitches were full. We were therefore directed to a gravel site which was smaller, more cramped, a poor view, and more difficult when trying to wheel the toilet cassette to the disposal point. The site owner was less than helpful just shrugging his shoulders and sign the grass site was “fully booked“ (yes.....We were one of the people who had a confirmed booking on that site!). No offer of a refund and this alone means I would never return to the site. Further problems we encountered were the site Wi-Fi been completely useless whilst at the same time being in a cell phone blackspot. As we had brought laptops with us specifically to catch up on some work this meant it was impossible from our caravan. If you don’t need to connect to the Internet this won’t of course be a problem, but if you need do need to connect again this site is completely useless. Finally, the toilet disposal point was quite unpleasant and not well-kept...A concrete floor with a hole in the ground where everything splashed around, a hose which leaked, poor lighting, and generally quite unhygienic. Overall, this in my opinion is a poorly managed and maintained site and we won’t be returning.

Flat pitch. Clean toilets as not used hardly due to covid.

    Disliked:

What a load of @*#*. We chose this site because it was a fully serviced pitch available that week I should have listened to the bad reviews. Electric should be included yet box wasn't topped up on our arrival and ran out at night time so had to use gas for fridge, boiling water in a pan, etc. reception didn't open until 10am and they have no emergency number so was left in this situation until they opened up again. Pitch was supposed to be fully serviced, yet waste drain didn't allow for pipe to go in and the drain itself was concreted higher than the caravan run off so couldnt even lie pipe next to it to drain off. Everyone ended up using their waste containers then emptying. Kind of defeats the object of fully serviced pitch and they do charge the highest rate for this in the area. Also just to add I struggled to get 3g coverage and didn't pick up any available WiFi.

Local attractions

There are some spectacular beaches around these parts, with the closest, Lydstep, less than half a mile away from Whitewell. Jetskis and kayaks can be hired here if you want to take to the water, and a couple of golf courses – from many in the area – are nearby.

Tenby, a few minutes' drive away, is worth at least a few days, on its North, South and Castle beaches, browsing around its shops, cafés and restaurants or taking a seal safari trip. From Tenby harbour, one of the most popular things to do in the area is the boat trip to tiny Caldey Island, one of the Holy Islands of Britain and still with a Trappist monk population. Tenby harbour is also where anglers go to cast off; sea angling trips are easy to organise from Tenby too.

Little monsters should enjoy playing among the dinosaurs in the woods at Tenby's Dinosaur Park where there are plenty of other things going on, like rides, indoor and outdoor play, a games garden and a mile-long dinosaur trail.

Just outside Tenby, Heatherton World of Activities and Manor Wildlife Park opposite will keep everyone busy for another day or two among the animals, paintballing and go-karting. After that, the animals and play of award-winning Folly Farm are about five miles from Tenby along the coast at Kilgetty.
