  • In Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, five-minute drive to sandy beach
  • Oakwood, Folly Farm and Manor Wildlife Park within 25 minutes’ drive
  • Heated outdoor pool, playing field, indoor games room, snooker table
Fancy stays full of beachy days, seaside walks and leafy peace? Motor on to Tudor Glen Caravan Park, a family-run and family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from the Pembrokeshire town of Tenby in west Wales. In the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the site’s well-placed for outdoorsy hols: Manorbier beach five minutes from base is a haven for experienced surfers (the less experienced and non-surfers might prefer to laze on the sand or head in for a swim), and ramblers can join the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path a 25-minute stroll away. Outdoor adventures can continue on site if the weather’s cooperating: there’s a heated outdoor swimming pool for splashing around in and a large playing field for kickabouts, but an indoor games room and a full-size snooker table are on hand too if things become a little more inclement. When it’s time to venture further afield, stock up on supplies in the onsite shop (open during high season) or make a pitstop in the village pub for some eats, then head to the train station to steam along to Pembroke, Carmarthen or (and?) Swansea.

Local attractions

Kids will be keen to start exploring hereabouts once they hear just how much is within a 25-minute drive: the hair-raising rides at Oakwood Theme Park, the archery, paintball and karting at Heatherton, and the animals and fairground at Folly Farm are all in easy reach of the site. If that’s not enough for cantankerous kids, make no bones about it – the nearby Dinosaur Park is a must-visit, and a roaring time will be had by all on the rides, slides and dino trail. No miniature palaeontologist along for the trip? Head instead to Manor Wildlife Park, where the residents are very much of the here and now, and very much still breathing. A few days must be spent exploring the towns and villages nearby, especially those along the coast. Start with Manorbier where there are gardens to traipse through and a castle overlooking that award-winning beach before moving on to the galleries, forts, castles, museums, shops and National Trust properties of Tenby and Pembroke, each 10 minutes away. Appetites whet by museums and old buildings should be satisfied by poking around Carew and Pembroke castles, both within 15 minutes, and Cilgerran castle (an hour-long car ride from base).
