Oakvale Caravan Park: Site views

General

  • Small family-run caravan site in the quiet Pembrokeshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Fishguard, Newgale beach and Broad Haven beach
  • Pub a short walk away; farm shops nearby; barbecues and dogs allowed

Zipping off to Pembrokeshire for pretty beaches and harbours, or to have the run of the countryside trails? The dog-friendly Oakvale Caravan Park is a properly peaceful place for a break surrounded by the Pembrokeshire countryside – and when you’re ready to trade in the fields for some sand, it’s within 20 minutes’ drive of Newgale beach, Broad Haven beach and Fishguard.

How to sum up this place? Small, quiet and family-run might be some words that first spring to mind. Countryside views too, as this site stretches over two acres – and naturally, it’s the sort of place that’s suited to more mature guests or couples after a peaceful getaway.

With modest facilities including toilets and showers and quietness all around, you might expect to be far away from things, but that’s not the case, as the site has good access to transport links, including the A40 under a mile away and Fishguard’s ferries that will drop you off in Ireland if that’s next on your itinerary (or your return route home).

From the site, you’ll be free to prance off to the pub as you please, as there are two locals nearby that serve home-cooked food. In fact, one is just over five minutes’ walk away, so it’s easy to make your mind up on a cheeky drink or two at short notice.

Barbecues also have the green light here, so you might want to stock up on some goods from the supermarkets as you make your way over to the site (they're about four or five miles away).

Please note

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 2 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Brilliant atmosphere, Ed made us feel very welcome. All amenities we could need (water, showers, toilets, rubbish disposal, etc) were available and the site is very dog friendly. Would happily go back and explore more of the fantastic countryside and coast that the area has to offer.

Extremely peaceful location which is very central to all surrounding beaches and attractions. The owners were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The pub in the village is very nice and only a 5 minute walk from the site. We really enjoyed our stay and will return in the future.

Location is great, quiet site in easy reach of the beaches and Haverfordwest for provisions. We had some cracking walks along the valley. Owners run the place with great enthusiasm - very friendly and helpful. Basic facilities but a big plus for motorhome users is being able to drive around to the fresh water, waste point and toilet emptying.

Thank-you for the lovely review Jeremy. We loved having you here. Maybe see you again next year.

I could stay overnight with facilities.
Hot shower good, no time restrictions.
Friendly staff. Walking distance to a pub (not the best selection of drinks, but good enough)

    Disliked:

Men’s bathroom was not in great shape. The lady said they were waiting for the plumber, but hubby said it was actually dirty, so that was a downer.
There’s is only one shower for each gender.
Didn’t see a comunal facility to wash dishes.
Need a super long electric cable as there are hubs rather than one dedicated electric supply per pitch.

Local attractions

What’s all the fuss about with the Pembrokeshire coast? Well, you’ll soon find out when you begin to tick off the local coves, as the sandy Newgale beach (20 minutes’ drive) is a surfing mecca, and Broad Haven beach (20 minutes) a place with more watersports and equipment for hire.

In Fishguard (20 minutes), there’s as much to do on the water as there is on the ground, as fishing trips or kayak tours leave from the harbour and the shore has a fort and rocky headlands (for exploring on foot, perhaps?)

Of course, that’s not the end of the coast. There’s also Druidstone beach (25 minutes) and the busy Tenby (40 minutes). Inland, Llys y Frân Country Park & Reservoir (15 minutes) has walking trails, mountain biking trails, watersports, fishing and playgrounds, plus a café to recharge in after all that activity.

As for those historical places that add the finishing touch to a break, Britain’s smallest city, St Davids (half an hour) is one of those. Scolton Manor (five minutes) is another, as this place has a traditional Victorian country house alongside a country park.

Must see

  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (11.8 miles)
  • St Davids Cathedral (13.2 miles)
  • Pembroke Castle (13.4 miles)

National Trust

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (13.5 miles)
  • Stackpole Estate (17.1 miles)
