  • Small family-run caravan site in the quiet Pembrokeshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Fishguard, Newgale beach and Broad Haven beach
  • Pub a short walk away; farm shops nearby; barbecues and dogs allowed
Zipping off to Pembrokeshire for pretty beaches and harbours, or to have the run of the countryside trails? The dog-friendly Oakvale Caravan Park is a properly peaceful place for a break surrounded by the Pembrokeshire countryside – and when you’re ready to trade in the fields for some sand, it’s within 20 minutes’ drive of Newgale beach, Broad Haven beach and Fishguard. How to sum up this place? Small, quiet and family-run might be some words that first spring to mind. Countryside views too, as this site stretches over two acres – and naturally, it’s the sort of place that’s suited to more mature guests or couples after a peaceful getaway. With modest facilities including toilets and showers and quietness all around, you might expect to be far away from things, but that’s not the case, as the site has good access to transport links, including the A40 under a mile away and Fishguard’s ferries that will drop you off in Ireland if that’s next on your itinerary (or your return route home). From the site, you’ll be free to prance off to the pub as you please, as there are two locals nearby that serve home-cooked food. In fact, one is just over five minutes’ walk away, so it’s easy to make your mind up on a cheeky drink or two at short notice. Barbecues also have the green light here (off the ground, please), so you might want to stock up on some goods from the supermarkets as you make your way over to the site (they're about four or five miles away).

Local attractions

What’s all the fuss about with the Pembrokeshire coast? Well, you’ll soon find out when you begin to tick off the local coves, as the sandy Newgale beach (20 minutes’ drive) is a surfing mecca, and Broad Haven beach (20 minutes) a place with more watersports and equipment for hire. In Fishguard (20 minutes), there’s as much to do on the water as there is on the ground, as fishing trips or kayak tours leave from the harbour and the shore has a fort and rocky headlands (for exploring on foot, perhaps?) Of course, that’s not the end of the coast. There’s also Druidstone beach (25 minutes) and the busy Tenby (40 minutes). Inland, Llys y Frân Country Park & Reservoir (15 minutes) has walking trails, mountain biking trails, watersports, fishing and playgrounds, plus a café to recharge in after all that activity. As for those historical places that add the finishing touch to a break, Britain’s smallest city, St Davids (half an hour) is one of those. Scolton Manor (five minutes) is another, as this place has a traditional Victorian country house alongside a country park.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Location to ferry was ideal. Lovely big field with plenty of room for turning, reversing etc. Friendliness of the owners - they were so lovely and even though we were quite late arriving, they had no issues with it and were super helpful. Hot showers with no additional fee was a welcomed bonus.

Disliked: Would liked to have stayed longer to explore the area.

Liked: We cannot fault this site at all. The couple who owned it were amazing and so friendly. They went out of their way to make us so welcome. It is such a quiet and tranquil spot in a beautiful village and with a very friendly pub up the road. We are going back again in August and would definitely recommend this site.

Disliked: Leaving
