  • Peaceful eco-friendly site in a 14-acre private nature reserve
  • Six miles from Fishguard and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Games barn and river access
On your next hol, mix things up with a stay at Into The Sticks, a peaceful west Wales site in a semi-wild private nature reserve that stretches across 14 acres on the banks of the Western Cleddau river. It’s a splendid rural retreat for folk who hanker after days of nature trails and digital detoxing (there is – take a deep breath – no wifi on site here…) Should you be concerned that you’ll be completely cut off from all civilisation, it’s worth noting that this secluded spot is a mere mile from the village of Letterston (for shops, a pub, bus stops and access to the A40) and 25 minutes’ drive from Haverfordwest, for sights like a town museum in a 12th-century castle, and plenty of amenities (banks, supermarkets and so forth). Outings around here can focus on either country or coast – the Pembrokeshire coast is six miles away for walks, boat trips, beaches and all manner of water-based activities. Getting stuck in is a cinch, as an activity centre with coasteering, sea kayaking and surf lessons is an easy 15-minute drive from Into The Sticks. Other facilities on site include a games barn, an indoor cooking area with fridge and eco washing-up liquid, stacks of free firewood for constructing your campfires and free hot showers with biodegradable soaps and shampoos (yep, you guessed it… they’re free too).

Local attractions

Dawdle over to Dyffryn Fernant Gardens (20 minutes’ drive) to cavort among the colourful flowers, or choose a wilder place for a walk by setting off towards the trails of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park’s Preseli Hills (also 20 minutes away). Gentle ambles are to be had around St David's – the teeny-tiny cathedral city is the UK’s smallest – where there’s the ruined medieval-era Bishops Palace and a smart art gallery to roam around. Take the 25-minute drive over here for wildlife-spotting boat trips as well, or to browse the delis and bookshops for artisan products and absorbing reads. Stick to the seaside with a trip to Porthgain’s pretty harbour (20 minutes) or putter over to Newgale's surf beach (25 minutes) to glide along the west Wales waves. A wide, sweeping beach is half an hour away at Newport Sands, as is a golf club for perfecting your swing while taking in the rather lovely views over the coast.
