Ffynnonddewi: Family-friendly site

General

  • Peaceful 10-acre site two miles from Solva harbour
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of St Davids and Newgale beach
  • Campfires welcome, with firepits provided and wood for sale

Stretched across 10 acres, with open space all around and within easy striking distance of St Davids and Solva… Ffynnonddewi’s a super spot for a break in pretty Pembrokeshire.

‘Back to basics camping as it used to be – but with better bathrooms’ is how the folk here see their site. In fact, each pitch has its own composting toilet, and a dog shower is available for four-legged friends. Hot showers for humans are also on hand to hose off the sand after a beachy outing.

Stargazing around the campfire is one of their fave pursuits, so they’ve kitted the place out with firepits and will happily sell you some wood to stack up in them. Barbecues are welcome too, with supplies to be sourced from the delis of St Davids or the bigger supermarkets 15 minutes away in Haverfordwest.

Ffynnonddewi has its very own cidery on site and is fully-licensed to sell ciders and other local beers and wines. These can be delivered right to your pitch, and there's also the option of having baguettes and hot drinks delivered for breakfast the next morning.

Nippers with energy to spare have plenty of space to run about and play games on site, and there’s a separate six acres next door where dogs can be liberated from the lead for some dashing about.

We stayed at Ffynnonddewi for 5 nights and had an amazing time. The pitch sizes are huge so much room for activity. Each pitch has its own firepit and there are porter loo available so you don't have to walk to far.
My husband said he had the best bacon, egg sausage Bap and they have vegan/Veggie options.
Location wise it is close to various beaches.
Host is really accommodating and allowed us to move when we requested due to noise level from next pitch.
We were lucky as it was start of season so it felt as if we had the whole Campsite for ourselves.

    Disliked:

It is a child friendly site which we were aware of but something to keep in mind if you want peace and quiet.

Hi Foha
Glad you guys enjoyed your stay at Ffynnonddewi. It seems that your neighbour's had a toddler who wouldn't settle on his first night camping, but yes we are totally family friendly.

Fantastic location in easy reach of the coastal path, St David's and other lovely villages/towns. Camping field is peaceful and surrounded by hedgerow with lots of birds. Pitches well-spaced. Simple setup (as we like) with a few added conveniences - portaloo by each pitch, free fire pits (wood available to buy), ice packs to borrow, washing up area - and helpful hosts. Can highly recommend their cider, brewed and sold onsite! Showers a bit temperamental temperature-wise but very clean. Other campers were quiet and friendly - nice to see all the fires going of an evening. Would definitely stay again.

Thanks for your great review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and the cider.
Our showers are run from propane bottles and can be a bit tricksy early season with variable incoming water temperatures.
Hopefully see you again sometime, in the future.

Fabulous site - we stayed for 3 nights with two young children. Great size pitches with our own toilet and firepit. Gareth brought logs to our pitch and some marshmallows for the kids which was a lovely added touch! Lots of space for the children to run around, without being intrusive of other campers.
Great facilities, there are solar USB ports to charge phones etc and a really good recycling system. Breakfast baps and baguettes are available to order to your tent, which are brought to you at the time you want (delicious food, went down a treat with us!)
Phone signal was great, with 4G.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, great hosts with an amazing site - would 100% recommend and will be returning soon!

It was quiet, well spaced pitches. The bathrooms were immaculately kept with hot running water. Each pitch has their own portaloo (which would be replaced by composting toilets). Washing up facilities with hot water and cleaning materials provided too. Solar charging lockers with two USB ports. The owner Gareth had a pop up type food area which served different types of breakfast baps (and soon to be coffee).

Local attractions

Pembrokeshire’s famed for its beaches – and rightly so, for they are many and varied. Stride forth on foot from Ffynnonddewi and you’ll get to the nearest little beach in about half an hour; for something somewhat more massive, it’s a 10-minute drive to the two miles of splendid sands at Newgale, or 20 minutes to Whitesands. Both are popular surf hangouts too, with kit hire and guidance to be had.

In between the beaches, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs along all 186 miles of the county’s coastline and makes for some cracking days of sea-view strolling. Should you be hankering after something more energetic, activity centres 15 minutes away in St Davids can hook you up with days of kayaking, paddleboarding, coasteering and climbing.

It’s worth sticking around in St Davids for a while too, to take a wander around the cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, and grab a bite in one of its independent restaurants or pubs. It’s also the place to sign up for boat trips to Ramsey Island, home to Wales’s most sizeable grey seal colony.

Must see

  • St Davids Cathedral (4.5 miles)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (15.7 miles)
  • Pembroke Castle (17.5 miles)
