Trapp Fishery Caravan and Camping: Autumn at the lake

General

  • Peaceful site in the Brecon Beacons, 10 minutes' drive from Llandeilo
  • 20 minutes' walk from Carreg Cennen Castle
  • Well-stocked fishing lake for experienced anglers, kids and beginners

Fishing folk – are you up for a challenge? Legend has it that somewhere in the lake at Trapp Fishery Caravan and Camping lurks a mirror carp weighing more than 25lb. No one’s managed to hook the elusive beastie so far… could it be you?

Even if you don’t manage to catch this whopper, there’s plenty more to cast around for in these waters, including bream, tench, mirror carp and common carp (some of which have come in at around the 20lb mark). Beginners and kids may have more luck with the smaller silverfish, and can have lessons to pick up some techniques.

Should you not fancy fishing at all, the peaceful pitches here still make a smashing base for exploring south Wales. A footpath leads from the site up to hilltop Carreg Cennen Castle and beyond into the Breacon Beacons National Park, and the beaches of the Gower Peninsula and Carmarthen Bay are around 45 minutes away by car.

Facilities on site are kept fairly minimal to preserve the rural vibe, but there’s a toilet block and plenty of picnic tables on which to serve up your meals. The friendly local pub is a five-minute trot away for pints and pub grub, or you could drive into Llandeilo, 10 minutes away, for more pubs, restaurants and takeaways.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The shower facilities are closed until Tuesday 1 March 2022. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

The hire of one fishing rod is per unit/pitch is included for stays of two or more nights.

Shower was great and no one else was there! Very quiet and lovely location, chap onsite very kind. Would stay again if I knew it wasn't full.

    Disliked:

I don't think I would like the site with many others as only 2 pitches were lovely with a bit of space, the others would be quite crammed together parked like in a supermarket car park as the site is quite small (it would be ok if with friends-otherwise...no thanks).

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments, any feedback is more than welcome

Just to reassure you; the campsite offers the adjacent half acre field ( 4 pitches ) and a smaller campsite near the river, of quarter acre, ( 2 pitches\). Both with the hard standing of 3 pitches provides more than adequate space for a small campsite

We look forward to seeing again

Many thanks
John - owner

We have spend a wonderful time at Trapp Fishery this Easters.
This camping site is a little gem hidden near Cregg Castel overlooking the castell and surrounding picturesque scenery. Campsite is situated in very quiet location with a little lake offering great conditions for any angle fishing enthusiasts.I would say it is one of the nicest places in Brecon Beacons we have visited over the years.
Pitches are well kept, facilities are very tidy and cleaned regularly. I would say this campsite has a very organic feel of a wild camping with added benefit of decent facilities and excellent customer service provided by the owner.
If you are a person who value peace, being close to nature and watching lovely Welsh scenery all around this place is definitely for you.
I would highly recommend it to everyone.
John thank you for a great time and we will surely visit again.
    All the best.

Local attractions

The Brecon Beacons National Park is a smashing place for a walk or few: start by hitting the path from the site up to 13th-century Carreg Cennen Castle – the 20-minute walk finishes with a steep climb but it’s worth it for the fab views from the top of the hill. Elsewhere around the park are heaps more walks for all fitness levels, along with mountain bike trails, horse riding, caving, watersports and aerial adventures.

If you like your walks a little more sedate, try Aberglasney Gardens and the National Botanic Gardens of Wales (both within a half-hour drive), or you could take a wander around Dinefwr Castle, just outside Llandeilo (15 minutes’ drive away).

For a blast of sea air, it’ll take you around 45 minutes to drive to the wide sands of Llansteffan beach, or the gorgeous eight-mile stretch of Cefn Sidan in Pembrey Country Park. The Gower Peninsula and the seaside resort of Tenby are both around an hour’s drive away.
