  • Peaceful rural Carmarthenshire site with valley views near Carmarthen
  • Half-hour drive to Heatherton World of Activities or Wild Lakes Wales
  • Fishing the Taf river on site; five minutes’ drive to shops and dining
Sitting in 25 acres of West Wales countryside and with great views of the surrounding valley, The Marsh is well placed for exploring the coastlines of both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire around Carmarthen. With multiple kids’ attractions within half an hour’s drive, this is a top-notch spot for families with active kids – and their dogs are welcome too. It’s also a cracking choice for anglers, as they can practise casting for salmon, sea trout and bass amid a glorious backdrop of birdsong along the Taf river (extra cost). If you’re looking for a relaxing day on site, have a potter along its nature trails or wander down to the Taf for a waterside stroll. To up the pace a bit, head to the seaside town of Tenby (half an hour’s drive) for splashing around in the sea and boat trips to Caldey Island, or go sailing and windsurfing in Saundersfoot (25 minutes). Back on site, there’s a variety of grass pitches (some uneven and unmown) and simple facilities stretch to a washing-up area, a portable toilet and ice-pack freezing to keep barbecue goodies fresh. Pick up basics in the village of St Clears – where you can also down a caffeine fix – or do bigger shops in Laugharne (both five minutes), home to a ruined castle and displays in the Dylan Thomas Writing Shed. If you prefer, you could dodge the cooking completely and pick up fish and chips to eat back at camp or try a couple of Pembrokeshire brews in a local pub.

This is a peaceful, natural campsite with spacious pitches, beautiful views, and abundant wildlife. Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful owner, Huw, and the well-stocked honesty shop featuring local produce. Facilities are generally clean and well-maintained, although some mention occasional issues with hot water for washing up and the number of toilets/showers when busy. Dog training and occasional road noise are noted, but overall, visitors highly recommend the site for its tranquil atmosphere and value for money.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site was lovely with some picnic tables and water taps nearby, and the toilets were clean. Huw was very welcoming and the site was safe with a barrier at night. The tent was easy to pitch and the terrain is flat. Nice views of the countryside and hills and it was quiet and peaceful.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked St Clears.

Disliked I turned up, my pup was barking in car because I had to leave him in there as not allowed in the cabin, was told that on pitchup the terms and conditions state no vocal dogs allowed, He said it's a chihuahua vocal dog. I didn't see this on pitchup. This man is a dog trainer, he didn't want to know why my dog was barking only for 5mins, I couldn't explain to him he is a rescue, has separation anxiety, I have a bark collar that buzzing on him. Dog only reacts when put in some situations. Or when others on site making more noise that he was just alerting me. I was allowed to stay as I was only person in my field. 2 nights. But was told not to come back in August as it would be busy. So had to cancel, the booking I had which I lost my 15% deposit as you don't get it back. So I wouldn't recommend this site for both reasons.
If I wouldn't seen no vocal dogs, on pitchup I would not of booked. HE NEEDS TO MAKE THIS CLEARER .
I did not relax the whole time I was there incase my little dog made too much noise.
Taking in mind that he was working on the Smallholding making more noise than us, and yes the road outside this campsite is very noisy. He was not a constant Barker just a normal dog protective dog.

From the manager: Thank you for the opportunity to reply to your review.

Firstly Im disappointed in myself for not asking you to leave the site immediately on arrival as your attitude towards other campers was shocking.

On your arrival your dog was barking constantly I pointed out to you that we dont not accept vocal dogs, you informed me that the dog was only barking due to people walking around. I asked you how were you going to keep the dog quiet and not upset my campers you replied thats their problem.

As a campsite owner I took exception to your attitude and pointed out that if you couldn't keep your dog quiet and well behaved that maybe my campsite wasn't for you.

You personally cancelled your August booking as you most probably discovered that your dog was a very disruptive character and not suitable to a campsite.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good location, very friendly and helpful owner.
Basic facilities and a little bit dated but great shower, clean and tidy.
Loved the honesty shop, although we didn’t use it on this occasion, as we had stocked up.
Great walks from the campsite.

Disliked Could perhaps do with a second toilet and shower. It was quiet when we were there, but it could be difficult when busy.

Local attractions

What a spot for family holidays. You can keep the kids going all day with animal encounters at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes’ drive), or challenge them to mini-golf games and paintball fights at Heatherton World of Activities (half an hour). Rather be out in the water? There’s a wave pool and high-impact flume rides at Blue Lagoon Water Park (25 minutes), or you can book family wakeboarding lessons at Wild Lakes Wales (half an hour). On sunny days, jump in the car and head for the beaches in Saundersfoot (half an hour) for some downtime messing about in the waves. To slow things down a bit, the National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes) is a good place for lots of strolls in peaceful landscapes and rare plants in a Norman Foster-designed glasshouse, or you can up the cultural element of your Wales break with a guided tour of Pembroke Castle (35 minutes).
