  • Small family- and dog-friendly site with views over the Teifi valley
  • A five-minute drive from Newcastle Emlyn and 15 to Cenarth Falls
  • Poppit Sands, Llangrannog and Aberporth beaches reachable in 30 mins
Turn up in the Teifi valley for a Welsh welcome at Fron Rafel, a small family-run site spread over seven acres whose friendly vibes and helpful staff are as tiptop as the views of the countryside from the grounds. As well as being in a lush rural area in west Wales, this dog-friendly place is less than 10 minutesā€™ drive to the popular settlement of Newcastle Emlyn and 35 minutes from the family-friendly beach of Poppit Sands (lifeguarded in summer), so you can switch between coastal and town times with ease. Countryside explores are also prime around this park, with Cenarth Falls and its leaping salmon 15 minutesā€™ drive for waterfall hiking and sightseeing; for mountain biking and more walks, Brechfa Forest is within half an hour. Up for getting out on the water? A local adventure company can arrange canoe trips and other outdoor activities in the site's Carmarthenshire surroundings. If you fancy browsing the shops in Cardigan and Carmarthen instead, both are about half an hour from the park. Restaurants are dotted around these market towns as well as closer by and a well-stocked supermarket is within a couple of miles for picking up ready meals to warm up in the microwave back on base. Other amenities at the site include a newly restored piggery building with ladiesā€™ and gentsā€™ shower rooms and a family wetroom plus washing-up facilities and a toaster at one end of the block. The park also has your essentials sorted with a chemical disposal and two washing machines, free for guests to use.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: I believe this was the new owners first week and they were absolutely lovely. The site was looking good for this time of year. The washing up facilities were absolutely amazing, really useful and included fridges and freezers as well. The site was located in the middle of nowhere which was nice. It certainly could be a nice quiet site.

Disliked: The pitch next to us had an awful lot of people staying on it, loads of kids kicking balls and throwing stones. Would be nice if there was an area they could play away from other people's vehicles. Could do with another toilet as there was only one for men and one for women and the loo was in with the shower. This meant that when someone was having a shower you could have a long wait to use the facilities

From the manager: Thank you for your fair review. We did have an unexpectedly large number of children on the site during the Easter holidays at short notice, possibly because the weather had not been particularly favourable and all our pitches have hard standing. With regards to the toilets, as you noted it was our first week and we are now considering whether making the facilities unisex would make a difference, but there is also another toilet in the wet room. Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Amanda and her husband couldnā€™t have been more welcoming. This was their first week of opening have just taken over as the new owners of Fron Rafel and it was lovely to meet them. The site is great, even better than the pictures portray, very small, quiet and friendly - 5 decent sized hard standing pitches with grass available beside for a tent or awning, perfect for our campervan. Plus 2 larger/double sized pitches. The bathrooms were brilliant, clean and a good size with great hot showers. We didnā€™t use the kitchen or utility area but they looked to be a great provision. We would definitely use Fron Rafel again in the future. Just stayed for one night this time as a stop over to break up a long journey but hope to be back to see what happens under the new ownership. The yurt, shepherds hut and static caravan will be fabulous offerings once they are up and running šŸ˜€

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: We stayed in the 2 bedroom static caravan, it was very cleverly renovated with an en suite to the main bedroom. The caravan was clean, roomy and airy. We loved how quiet the site was and the private wild garden was a fantastic addition to a very well thought out place. The owner was friendly and helpful, great value for money šŸ’° too. Will definitely return šŸ™‚ thank you!

Yurt

Liked: Absolutely loved our stay, spacious yurt with loads of lord of the rings character, comfy beds, electricity and two fridges. Amazing to have our own shower and kitchen facilities. The campsite is small and super friendly, so no noise late at night and the hosts were so lovely and welcoming. Close to lots of things to do from a simple google search. I would recommend highly and will be booking again next year.

Liked: Steve was friendly and always contactable. Pitches were a good size. Showers lovely and clean.

Disliked: Could do with a separate toilet from the showers as quite a wait if the shower was in use.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Owner was a lovely friendly man but seemed the only one to do all that needed doing.

Disliked: There was only one male and one female toilet/shower room. The site definitely needs more. They were always dirty as so many using them one after another. Not cleaned daily. Most tent pitches were on a slope including the one we had so not ideal to sleep.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: hi anonymous. not sure what site you stayed at as we have 1 male shower room and 1 female shower room as well as a family wet room and the yurt has its own facilities. most sites have 1 shower room to 9 pitches. i personally clean all of them daily and never miss a day. the weather when you were here was awful so i cleaned all of them 3 times a day. you should have brought it to my attention if you weren't happy but you didn't. the grass pitches are as flat as can be and we have never had complaints before and these are kept by another member of staff. perhaps camping isn't for you. interesting that you left an anonymous review. bemused steve
