  • A 20-minute drive from the beaches of the Ceredigion coast
  • River walks and fishing from site; five mins' drive from pub and shops
Ah, Cardigan Bay… cliffs, dolphins, castles, rivers and green hills… Fill your boots with the best of the bay and the whole county of Camarthenshire from a base on this spacious and friendly site, with free site-side wifi added in summer 2019. If you know your Welsh, or your Wales, you'll know that Afon Teifi Caravan and Camping is a riverside site, right on the banks of the Teifi; it's also about five minutes' drive from the lively market town of Newcastle Emlyn and around 20 minutes from the coast. It's a spacious site with a playing field along with a playground for kids of all ages and a games room kitted out with pool table, table tennis and a dartboard. Barbecues and campfires are allowed and you can stock up supplies for your alfresco feasts in nearby Newcastle Emlyn, as well as treat yourself to local ales and hot fresh food in the pubs. The site has 15 acres of lovely riverside land for the exclusive use of its visitors (human and canine): take a walk along the Teifi or fish from the banks for trout, sea trout and salmon with daily, weekly and season tickets available to purchase from the reception desk. Maybe you'll catch something for supper…

Electric grass pitch

Liked We stayed at this campsite over May half term. I always try to book a small campsite but this time I took a risk and booked a large one. Even tho it was big but it was nicely spaced out. Anywhere you were it wasn’t far to the shower block/kitchen/play area.
Toilet/shower block was clean but they should change toilet rolls as they smell like vomit. Also only 4 shower cubicles. Luckily it wasn’t busy during our stay.
Huge football pitch/ basket ball
Well equipped play area
Separate building with table tennis
River very short walk
Flat, private pitches
We asked to be next to the bushes and we were.
Well looked after site with good night lighting and hard paths so no muddy shoes if it’s raining.
Excellent WiFi
Little chair and hooks in the shower cubicles which is very handy.

Disliked Very smelly toilet roll

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Shower facilities very good. Grass well kept. River was lush

Disliked Kids playground could be upgraded. No pool table as advertised

From the manager: Apologies for there not being a pool table. We have been expecting one for a couple of weeks. Also new nets for the park. They arrived today.. Pool table also sorted. Thank goodness the weather was good and the children were outside playing or by the river.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The location was great, beautiful surroundings, nice walks nearby. Facilities are dated but works well, plenty of shower space and toilets. There was a freezer available too.

Disliked We went on a bank holiday weekend and it was really busy. There’re rules that kids need to be back with their parents before 10:30pm but many people are not following them. We had children playing around our pitch every night, even at midnight… I feel like these rules can be reminded to people with kids when they check in.

The campsite is lighten up all night. Our pitch was right below a light, which makes it too bright for me to sleep. The light was broken as well, it was flashing on and off constantly…

There were only general waste, paper and cardboard, glass recycling bins on site. We ended up having to throw cans and plastic to general waste bin.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great picturesque site on the river with good dog walking. River is great for fishing and paddling. Lots of pretty places within 30mins drive. Facilities are a little dated but clean and functional. Wardens are helpful. Pick your own pitch which we like, felt nice and laid back. Will definitely return!

Disliked Can’t fault a thing!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked It was a peaceful site, on the river.

Disliked It was a bit of a disjointed arrival, it felt quite transactional and very much this is a business deal with not really any welcome or guidance on where things are apart from a brief point at a map.

I'd recommend a simple one pager I could have taken away which explains all the information required to get the most out of the stay including simple things like where things are located, WIFI details, bins, etc.

It would have avoid wandering around or calling the host to find out information.

The toilets were functional but a little tired, and a few of the stalls and showers were out of action but luckily for me there was no queues. But I'd imagine if it was into the summer season it would have caused issues.

Local attractions

Castles? Sorted. The ruined castle in Newcastle Emlyn is one of many built to defend this much-fought-over slice of green and pleasant land; Cilgerran, 15 minutes away, has ruinous traces of all the people who've sacked it and seized it, while 11th-century Cardigan Castle has been so well restored you'd think it was still in use. If you feel like going further back in time, spin a yarn or two at the National Wool Museum, five minutes' drive away, or hoof it over to Castell Henllys (30 minutes) to experience life in a working replica Iron Age village. The seals and dolphins have been visiting the waters of Cardigan Bay since long before the castles: spot them via a sea safari from New Quay, half an hour away. Alternatively take your binoculars when you hit the beach there, or at the similarly well-appointed sandy strips of Aberporth, Mwnt, Llangrannog and Poppit Sands, all between 20 minutes' and half an hour's drive. Antics off the sands include canoeing through the Teifi gorge from Cilgerran and walks along the 60-mile long Ceredigion Coast Path, as well as birdwatching opportunities aplenty heading inland along the wetlands of the Teifi estuary. For family days out involving wild beasts and high-octane active stuff, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo and Heatherton World of Activities are both around an hour's drive away.
