  • Basic facilities; a five-minute drive to Llansteffan beach and castle
  • Bar on site with occasional live music/food nights on weekends
Walks in west Wales and pet-friendly stays in a peaceful country setting… what a lovely location is Laugharne View Caravan Site, a strict no-smoking site. Bringing a dog along or not, this park on a working smallholding has spectacular views over the Taf estuary and Caldey Island, so it’s a first-rate place for a break soaking up the Carmarthenshire scenery. With paths to ply all around, it’s also a splendid spot for walks that should appeal to those on four legs or two – it’s possible to potter over to Llansteffan, a couple of miles away, directly from the park for visits to a wide sandy beach (make sure to check for seasonal restrictions if you're taking a dog) as well as a castle that dates back to the 12th century. From there, you might choose to extend your walk on the coast path or settle on the beach to fish for flounders and bass. More interested in strolls that result in supper? A pub is within a five-minute walk, and the eateries of Carmarthen – the oldest town in Wales – are just over 20 minutes away by car. If you've got a bit more time in town, ride on the antique Gwili Steam Railway into the hinterlands of the country or stay in Carmarthen to browse the boutiques. If you’re firmly sticking to country pursuits, stay on site to peer at the chickens on the farm, take the dog for a run around the spacious grounds, or set up a camping chair and use the wifi to help build tomorrow’s itinerary. You might also like to pick up a couple of drinks from the site's Hayday bar to complete the picture… The basic amenities at Laugharne View Caravan Site include a toilet block and a basic shower block. Please note that there is a non-smoking (and no vaping in family areas) policy in place at this site and that some parts of the site are adults-only.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Beautiful views & a friendly welcome

Disliked Although toilets were clean the distance from the camping field was much too far

From the manager: Thanks for the review Jayne - yes it is over 150m which is why we state the distance on our listing on pitchup and again on your booking confirmation. We suggest prospective guests read the information carefully before booking to avoid disappointment.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (adults only)

Liked The view was nice, easy access to EHU & Water on pitch.

Disliked The attitude of the female staff member, who was quite rude and abrupt when shouting across to us and wagging her finger that "Day guests aren't allowed"
It also states 'bar on site'... it was closed

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. Your review follows an incident where your unregistered guests arrived with you for your 1 night stay and looked ready to stay for the duration of your visit. Shortly after your arrival, I greeted you and noticed your additional, unpaid for guests. I gave you the benefit of the doubt at that point that they were staying for a cuppa. I patiently waited for nearly 3 hours your instruction to say that you had altered your occupancy or to gain permission for your guests - and of course offer to pay the additional charge.

Our terms - clearly stated before your booking and reiterated on your booking confirmation - state we do not permit day guests. This is not only for safety and insurance reasons, but because our paying guests fund the upkeep of facilities. Allowing non paying guests to use them would be unfair to everyone who books and pays correctly, which is why we apply the same rules to all visitors, especially those who we have never seen before and who are staying 1 night.

I waited nearly 3 hours for your guests to leave, but once I saw the wine coming out, I thought it necessary to casually mention as I walked past ' Just a reminder, day guests are not permitted'. Your unauthorised guest flippantly shouted ' we are just leaving'. There was no apology or claim of not knowing the rules - only an aggressive annoyance at being caught. We don't allow freeloaders to use the facilities that are paid for by others. We manage our site, which means we enforce our rules for safety, fairness and respect for the guests who follow our rules.

In this situation - there was nothing I could have done not to get a 1/10, but I will certainly not shy away from confrontation. On my site, I will not allow the minority so spoil anything - they just get banned, so that I can keep my prices as low as possible for the majority. I thought about phoning you, texting or possibly just entering your pitch with my card reader and charging you the appropriate tariff. In hindsight - I wish I had done the latter so I wasn't out of pocket on top of having a horrifically low unfair score.

Primarily the bar is open weekends (Fri/Sat) and there are higher nightly tariffs for pitches due to this. Occasionally we will open on other nights. If the bar is important to prospective guests then please check on our @taylorstowbar socials. I think we all know that given my supposed finger wagging incident that even if the bar was open - you were not going to use due to you being so hard done by.

On a plus - despite the low scores for all our other categories - we can assume that you did not really see any fault in the site as a whole:

Wifi Low Score: We do not state that we offer this facility.

Cleanliness: No mention of it being unclean or untidy. When you and your unauthorised guests were using our facilities, I could see the 4 of you having a good poke and discussion around the shower/toilet block and bins. It can be assumed that you found no fault otherwise, I'm sure you would have included every detail.

Facilities: I assume the bar being closed despite your low tariff of £25 per night for a hardstanding serviced pitch led to this low score.

Value for money: Obviously - you wanted 4 people to be included within the tariff you paid for 2 people which has led you to this dissatisfaction. In reality - you saved yourself £10, so I feel you had good value for money.

Location: You chose the site based on its location so that is confusing. I can only assume, you are referring to the location of your pitch - to which was not hidden enough for you to do as you pleased.

Customer Service: Thank you for your private feedback informed me that I require customer service training. We are aiming to build a really special site with spectacular guests - we filter out all those not suited to the site and ban anyone that is not respectful and well mannered. As a sole trader, I'm fighting back against entitled behaviour that spoils the experience of the majority of our honest guests.

If any prospective guests are concerned about this review - then hopefully we have answered any questions you have.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked Really friendly staff, facilities very well maintained, beautiful location with some fantastic views.

Disliked Camping area a fair walk from facilities, possibly installing extra toilet/wash units or relocating caravans and camping area. But only a small issue

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review - Although it would be ideal, it isn't a priority for us to put any facilities down in the camping area. It would be too cost prohibitive and would result in the tariff's going up considerable. Our only priority is to improve current facilities which are all located at the entrance. Glad you had a nice time!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (adults only)

Liked Peaceful, facilites absolute fine but I was alone and it was quiet. Recycling facility and the little utilities shed welcome. Friendly welcome and a pub serving food closeby.

Disliked Access roads not for the fainthearted, but I was use to single tracks with passing places.

Electric grass campervan or tent pitch

Liked The showers and toilets very clean. The pot washing area . Nice pub 5 minutes walk
Lovely little village 5 mi utes drive.the view is brilliant overseeing the estuary very peaceful.

Disliked Very quiet not ideal for families but couples wanting a quiet time doing very little . Nothing to dislike over the site at all

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Jane. The main descriptors on our site from guests are 'peaceful' with 'spectacular scenery' so your experience of our site is 100% accurate and backs up the description on pitchup.

Facilities: I can see you marked us down for our facilities but apart from toilet/showers - we don't state we have anything on site but are very pleased you found them clean.

Value for money: You paid £20 per night. Pretty impressive for amazing views and peace and quiet with clean facilities.

Customer Service: For us to improve in this area, it would be useful give us an insight into your expectations.

Wifi: This is not a facility we state we have.

Child Friendliness: Extremely low mark considering you did not travel with children.

Non recommendation/Return: We concur that it would be difficult for you to return or to recommend your friends/family. As you would have been aware (prior to booking) and whilst onsite, we do operate a strict recycling policy which you could not be bothered to adhere to. You were blocked from rebooking shortly after you left due to the large black bag of general waste you left during your 2 night stay.

All the best in your future travels - hope you find a great family friendly site to suit your needs.

The site is incredible my well cared for. The shower/toilet facilities are absolutely spotless.
Dogs are very welcome.
The local pub does brilliant food and the portions are somewhat HUGE!

Disliked The site is an advertised as having a bar on site, but this is only open at weekends. I may have missed that when booking so apologies if I did, but we had hoped to use this facility during the week.

Local attractions

While Laugharne’s visible from the park, it’s a 25-minute drive away around the estuary to this pretty village famed for its castle and poet Dylan Thomas’ writing shed. For more of the area's history, National Trust attractions further away – like the Roman-era Dolaucothi Gold Mines (an hour’s drive) and the handsome house and park at Dinefwr (50 minutes) – should also feature on your to-do list. Also inland are many adventures, including the mountain biking trails of Brechfa Forest (55 minutes); swing back to the seaside and cycle more sedately along the Millennium Coastal Path if thrill-seeking on two wheels sounds a little bit too much for your tastes. Of course, you’re also never far from the coast in this part of Wales… Pembrey Country Park’s miles and miles of sandy beach are a 45-minute drive away, and the shorelines of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire are also less than an hour away.
