  • Small, rural and no-smoking site a couple miles from the coast
  • Basic facilities; a five-minute drive to Llansteffan beach and castle
  • Bar on site with occasional live music/food nights on weekends
Walks in west Wales and pet-friendly stays in a peaceful country setting… what a lovely location is Laugharne View Caravan Site, a strict no-smoking site. Bringing a dog along or not, this park on a working smallholding has spectacular views over the Taf estuary and Caldey Island, so it’s a first-rate place for a break soaking up the Carmarthenshire scenery. With paths to ply all around, it’s also a splendid spot for walks that should appeal to those on four legs or two – it’s possible to potter over to Llansteffan, a couple of miles away, directly from the park for visits to a wide sandy beach (make sure to check for seasonal restrictions if you're taking a dog) as well as a castle that dates back to the 12th century. From there, you might choose to extend your walk on the coast path or settle on the beach to fish for flounders and bass. More interested in strolls that result in supper? A pub is within a five-minute walk, and the eateries of Carmarthen – the oldest town in Wales – are just over 20 minutes away by car. If you've got a bit more time in town, ride on the antique Gwili Steam Railway into the hinterlands of the country or stay in Carmarthen to browse the boutiques. If you’re firmly sticking to country pursuits, stay on site to peer at the chickens on the farm, take the dog for a run around the spacious grounds, or set up a camping chair and use the wifi to help build tomorrow’s itinerary. You might also like to pick up a couple of drinks from the site's Hayday bar to complete the picture… The basic amenities at Laugharne View Caravan Site include a toilet block and a basic shower block. Please note that there is a non-smoking (and no vaping in family areas) policy in place at this site and that some parts of the site are adults-only.

Powered grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked Calm welcoming atmosphere, simple but organised. The host is there to welcome you but will leave you to it. Plenty of space between pitches. The toilet / shower block is warm and clean. Will 100% stay again.

Disliked I liked it all, the toilet block is a little walk from the tent pitch area which was fine for us but the motor homes are right next to it and the generally have toilets on board so wouldn’t benefit from the closeness as much as the campers would. Still not really an issue.

Liked Fantastic view as the name suggests! We were the only tent in the lower pitch field, but the pitches were well maintained and spaced with clear electric and water points. We were given clear instructions and a friendly welcome.

Viewside powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite (adults only)

Liked Excellent directions, friendly welcome. Stunning views, own water tap. Easy hook up. Flat pitch, great value for money. Spotless shower/toilet block. Dog walk area, Hot shower, 5-10 minutes walk to pub (the farmers arms in Llanybri), or one on site (the tow bar) Friday and Saturday nights. Village of Llansteffan is about a 30 minute walk away. Stunning beaches (check for summer dog bans), Castle, views to Ferryside, cafes, shops, pub, pizza place. (One business does a few of those!!). There is a short but steep hill to Llansteffan. All in all 2 superb nights. Thank you.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. We didn't have kids with us so don't feel able to rate that.

Viewside powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite (adults only)

Liked a small but very well kept in clean site with the most fantastic views over the estuary and the village and Castle opposite. there are only two showers and toilets for the whole site, this was no problem whatsoever when we were there and we didn't have to queue once. facilities were kept spotlessly clean. the Bar opens twice a week and is really good serving hawkston lager, and bitter made from their own recipe at a local microbrewery which I have to say is well worth drinking. .

Disliked a small recommendation that I would like to see, as a person with mobility issues the bottom step into the men's shower it's very narrow compared to the other two it makes it very difficult to get in and out

Liked Really good communication. Good directions, we used three words. Lovely and friendly hosts and a warm welcome. Everything was very relaxed and the facilities were well explained before we arrived so we knew what to expect. The views were amazing and we got in a lovely sun set. Really appreciated the shower block too.

Route directions

As the site is in a rural area, the postcode covers a wide area. The site advises you not to solely use the postcode to find the site. They suggest arriving via the bus route (227 Carmarthen) through the village of Llansteffan and then follow signs for Llanybri. There is no need to access the site through any gated fields or dirt tracks. The entrance is clearly marked with a large sign. What3Words: rebounder.glass.wasps.

Local attractions

While Laugharne’s visible from the park, it’s a 25-minute drive away around the estuary to this pretty village famed for its castle and poet Dylan Thomas’ writing shed. For more of the area's history, National Trust attractions further away – like the Roman-era Dolaucothi Gold Mines (an hour’s drive) and the handsome house and park at Dinefwr (50 minutes) – should also feature on your to-do list. Also inland are many adventures, including the mountain biking trails of Brechfa Forest (55 minutes); swing back to the seaside and cycle more sedately along the Millennium Coastal Path if thrill-seeking on two wheels sounds a little bit too much for your tastes. Of course, you’re also never far from the coast in this part of Wales… Pembrey Country Park’s miles and miles of sandy beach are a 45-minute drive away, and the shorelines of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire are also less than an hour away.
