Laugharne View Caravan Site: Dog friendly, no smoking, onsite bar, farm location, Near Llansteffan Beach

General

  • Peaceful site with views over the Taf estuary and Caldey Island
  • Bar on site with occasional live music/food themed nights
  • Non-smoking site five minutes' drive from Llansteffan beach and castle

Walks in west Wales and pet-friendly stays in a peaceful country setting… what a lovely location is Laugharne View Caravan Site. Bringing a dog along or not, this park on a working smallholding has spectacular views over the Taf estuary and Caldey Island, so it’s a first-rate place for a break soaking up the Carmarthenshire scenery.

With paths to ply all around, it’s also a splendid spot for walks that should appeal to those on four legs or two – it’s possible to potter over to Llansteffan, a couple of miles away, directly from the park for visits to a wide sandy beach (make sure to check for seasonal restrictions if you're taking a dog) as well as a castle that dates back to the 12th century. From there, you might choose to extend your walk on the coast path or settle on the beach to fish for flounders and bass.

More interested in strolls that result in supper? A pub and a Thai restaurant are within a five-minute walk, and the eateries of Carmarthen – the oldest town in Wales – are just over 20 minutes away by car. If you've got a bit more time in town, ride on the antique Gwili Steam Railway into the hinterlands of the country or stay in Carmarthen to browse the boutiques.

If you’re firmly sticking to country pursuits, stay on site to peer at the pigs on the farm, take the dog for a run around the spacious grounds, or set up a camping chair and use the wifi to help build tomorrow’s itinerary. You might also like to pick up a couple of drinks from the site's Hayday bar to complete the picture…

The amenities at Laugharne View Caravan Site include a toilet block and showers. Please note that there is a non-smoking policy in place at this site.

Please note

Entertainment and activities are available between 07/10 and 09/26.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Only breathable awning bases are allowed.

Please be mindful of the fact that the site's hillside, coastal location makes it quite exposed if weather warnings are issued.

this is one of the best campsites we have stayed at in a wonderful countryside setting, with wonderful views. there is plenty of room around pitches with your own water supply next to the pitch. the shower/ washroom facilities were very clean. the owners are very friendly and accommodating we had to put our trip back a week as we could not get any fuel for our camper so a big thankyou there. i would definitely recommend this campsite. the Farmers Arms pub a short walk from the campsite is worth a visit, there are some lovely beaches nearby where you can walk your dogs. this is farming country so expect to meet the odd tractor now and again.

Not too big a campsite but with level pitches and very quiet - except for the Friday night when there was live music, bbq and bar provided by the owners to which everybody was most welcome. I have to say, that was an unexpected high spot!

Local attractions

While Laugharne’s visible from the park, it’s a 25-minute drive away around the estuary to this pretty village famed for its castle and poet Dylan Thomas’ writing shed. For more of the area's history, National Trust attractions further away – like the Roman-era Dolaucothi Gold Mines (an hour’s drive) and the handsome house and park at Dinefwr (50 minutes) – should also feature on your to-do list.

Also inland are many adventures, including the mountain biking trails of Brechfa Forest (55 minutes); swing back to the seaside and cycle more sedately along the Millennium Coastal Path if thrill-seeking on two wheels sounds a little bit too much for your tastes.

Of course, you’re also never far from the coast in this part of Wales… Pembrey Country Park’s miles and miles of sandy beach are a 45-minute drive away, and the shorelines of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire are also less than an hour away.

Must see

  • Pembrey Country Park (8.4 miles)
  • National Botanic Garden of Wales (12.0 miles)
  • National Wetland Centre Wales (15.0 miles)

National Trust

  • Tudor Merchant's House (14.5 miles)
  • Rhossili Visitor Centre and Shop (15.8 miles)
