Walks in west Wales and pet-friendly stays in a peaceful country setting… what a lovely location is Laugharne View Caravan Site, a strict no-smoking site. Bringing a dog along or not, this park on a working smallholding has spectacular views over the Taf estuary and Caldey Island, so it’s a first-rate place for a break soaking up the Carmarthenshire scenery. With paths to ply all around, it’s also a splendid spot for walks that should appeal to those on four legs or two – it’s possible to potter over to Llansteffan, a couple of miles away, directly from the park for visits to a wide sandy beach (make sure to check for seasonal restrictions if you're taking a dog) as well as a castle that dates back to the 12th century. From there, you might choose to extend your walk on the coast path. More interested in strolls that result in supper? A pub is within a five-minute walk, and the eateries of Carmarthen – the oldest town in Wales – are just over 20 minutes away by car. If you've got a bit more time in town, ride on the antique Gwili Steam Railway into the hinterlands of the country or stay in Carmarthen to browse the boutiques. If you’re firmly sticking to country pursuits, stay on site to peer at the chickens on the farm, take the dog for a run around the spacious grounds. You might also like to pick up a couple of drinks from the site's Hayday bar (open on Fridays, Saturdays and bank holiday Sundays during high season only) to complete the picture; the bar runs occasional live music and food nights. The basic amenities at Laugharne View Caravan Site include a toilet block and a basic shower block. Please note that there is a non-smoking (and no vaping) policy in place at this site and that some parts of the site are adults-only.

  • The bar is open between 01/04 and 01/10.
  • There are no bins onsite: all rubbish will need to be taken home with you.

Safety

  • If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Vehicles

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the passenger door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.
  • Guests are not allowed to sleep in awnings. Only breathable awning bases are allowed. The grass pitches are 150m minimum away from facilities. The maximum tent size allowed is 5m x 5m. The bar is open on Fridays and Saturdays as well as Bank Holiday Sundays. Please note the bar may occasionally be closed for private events. Please note planned construction work will be carried out throughout the year, this will not affect any of the pitches or facilities.

Liked Terrific views across the bay. 6min walk to local pub. Very clean toilet and shower facilities. Generous plot sizes. Pleasant 25min walk into Llansteffan with a range of eateries.

Disliked Wrong water tap connection for most standard push on plugs. Poor wifi . . extended across whole site would be good.

Liked We had a fantastic weekend again, hosts are very friendly, bar is great and there are some lovely walks and a wonderful village pub (The Farmers Arms) very close.

Liked Laugharne View is a lovely, peaceful site with amazing views. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the spacious pitches gave us plenty of room. The host was friendly and helpful, which made us feel very welcome. We really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked The toilet block was very clean and the shower was hot. There were only two toilets and one shower in each of the male and female blocks, though, so there could be a wait if the site were fully booked. It wasn’t a problem for us during our stay.

Liked Lovely campsite with fabulous views and lots of acres to walk your dog, close to a lovely village with castle ruins to go and see and a beach.

Disliked There is only 1 shower and 2 toilets. Fine for us in our camper and going out of season, but not sure what the wait would be like when it’s busy with tents.

While Laugharne’s visible from the park, it’s a 25-minute drive away around the estuary to this pretty village famed for its castle and poet Dylan Thomas’ writing shed. For more of the area's history, National Trust attractions further away – like the Roman-era Dolaucothi Gold Mines (an hour’s drive) and the handsome house and park at Dinefwr (50 minutes) – should also feature on your to-do list. Also inland are many adventures, including the mountain biking trails of Brechfa Forest (55 minutes); swing back to the seaside and cycle more sedately along the Millennium Coastal Path if thrill-seeking on two wheels sounds a little bit too much for your tastes. Of course, you’re also never far from the coast in this part of Wales… Pembrey Country Park’s miles and miles of sandy beach are a 45-minute drive away, and the shorelines of the Gower Peninsula and Pembrokeshire are also less than an hour away.
