General
- Scenic and eco-friendly site with views of the Brecon Beacons
- Coarse fishing available for a small daily charge
- Golf course two minutes' walk away; 10 minutes to local pub
A quiet corner of Carmarthenshire, with fishing on site and a golf course and pub within easy ambling distance – land yourself a spot at Llandyfan Camping and Fishing and all this shall be yours.
Being on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this peaceful place is mighty scenic. It’s rather handily located too, a 10-minute drive from both Ammanford (where there’s a train station, restaurants and a sizeable supermarket for supplies) and pretty Llandeilo (for artsy shops and an excellent deli).
Naturally (this being Wales) there are castles nearby – both Dinefwr and Carreg Cennen are within a 10-minute drive. Beyond them are outings to botanic gardens, beaches and of course the Beacons themselves, a most fab place for all manner of outdoorsy activities. Perhaps don’t tire yourselves out too much by day though, lest you fall asleep early and miss the starry shows in the country's first International Dark Sky Reserve...
Out and about in this area has much to recommend it but so does sticking about on site for a bit, especially if you’re into fishing. Bring along your rods and a licence and for a small charge you can use the site’s coarse fishing lake.
This is an eco-friendly site, which generates its own power from wind and solar energy and backup generators and has its own water supply. And it’s a friendly one too: owner Bob’s garnered many plaudits from previous guests, partly because he’s a helpful chap and partly because he’ll sort you out with a firepit and firewood for your cosy evenings (for a small charge).

From the M4, junction 49 (end of M4):
Take the second exit on the roundabout (the road to Ammanford and Llandeilo). Drive right into Ammanford until you see a set of traffic lights.
Drive straight through the first set of traffic lights, turn right at second set of lights and follow the road for approximately half a mile. Turn left immediately after the speed camera.
Follow the road until you see the Square and Compass (public house). Drive straight past the Square and Compass (do not turn right).
Look for Bryncoch Farm Bed and Breakfast, but do not go up there. The site is 200 yards past there on the right.
Local attractions
After a bit of activity? You’re but a few minutes away from the Brecon Beacons and all the antics they’ve got to offer: miles of trails for walkers and cyclists, plus climbing, horse riding and watersports. Something a little gentler? The Glynhir Golf Course is a couple of minutes’ walk away, and there are leisurely riverside walks to be had in Llandeilo’s Castle Woods (10 minutes’ drive).
Folk who are intrigued by what lies below ground can delve into the National Showcaves Centre for Wales (40 minutes). If you’d rather stay on the surface you can take a wander in the gorgeous National Botanic Garden of Wales (20 minutes) or head to Carreg Cennen (10 minutes), one of Wales’ most spectacularly sited castles, with some stunning views from its hilltop spot (be ready for a bit of a climb…).
Looking a little further afield, it’ll take you 40 minutes to get to the gorgeous sandy beach of Pembrey or an hour to get to Oakwood Theme Park and the Blue Lagoon waterpark.
