General

  • Small and family-run site on a traditional working farm
  • At the foot of the Preseli Mountains six miles from Newport
  • Café, nature trail and indoor and outdoor play areas

All ages – and the dog – will be kept delightedly busy on fab little Dyfed Shire Horse Farm at the foot of the Preseli Mountains on a site run by the Lewis family since 1849.

As you might have gathered from the site name, shire horses live here – meeting them and visiting the farm for free is included in your pitch price. The farm is also part of a small visitor attraction, where you can take your pick from horse-drawn carriage rides, tractor rides, bird of prey displays in summer, and stacks to do for small sorts including a roomy play area adjacent to the site, and a spacious and well-equipped indoor soft play area open daily in the summer holidays. A one-kilometre and dog-friendly nature trail runs through woodland and meadow.

Dyfed Shire is on a working farm in a secluded and safe paddock in west Wales, six miles from the coastal path and beaches of Newport and Poppit Sands. It has a farm café (next to the outdoor play area) serving hot and cold food, a well-stocked shop and ice pack freezing. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed.

Toilets and showers are a short walk from the camping field, and include a parent and baby washroom.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Everything - So much for children to do
ball pit, bouncy castle, sand pits, trampolines, swings, slides, climbing frames, crazy golf. horse & cart rides, tractor rides.
then there are all the wonderful (and very well behaved) animals
    Horses, Llama's, Donkeys, Sheep.
and the space for the kids to run around - we had 2 very tired out grandchildren every day, they slept through later than us!!
We even had loads of sunshine :)

Excellent friendly staff and large level pitches 30/05/2018

We stayed wth 7 year old grandson and 4 year old granddaughter in a motorhome. The children absolutely loved the site and did not want to leave. The field was such that the pitches were on the outside of the field leaving the centre area for playing. Play equipment such as a large barn for making sandcastles in and other outdoor play equipment scattered around the park including a small but safe go karting track which all the children loved. The park was safe and free from cars and the children soon made friends with the children on the site as the site is very child friendly and the owners were happy to give them at alloted times trips around the field where various animals were introduced to them and all questions answered to excited children. We will be going again this year or if not next year.

    Disliked:

The lack of decent toilets and showers were the only negative comment i can give about the site. However we were assured that the owners have taken on board this concern and a new shower block is one of the future improvement to the camping facilities however people must understand that this is a working farm and therefore different to other camp sites but this is what makes it so unique and enjoyable.

Fabulous location, amazing views and nice and quiet with easy access to a main road. Handy garage shop, less than 5 mins walk, carful with opening hours.

Site itself was perfect for what we wanted, a quiet relaxing break with a 5 year old!! He loved access to the farm park throughout the day, we did it all and if not again as included in price, when open. Out of hours he had access to two parks, mini crazy gold and go carts which kept him occupied along with a couple more children staying.

Mark, the owner, and family were more than accommodating doing everything to ensure you had a nice stay and visit to the farm park. Food in the cafe very reasonable and tasty!

Toilet and shower facilities are VERY basic which we knew before going so wasn’t an issue.

    Disliked:

Bathroom facilities do need a very good clean.

Local attractions

This is a stunning part of west Wales, with beaches and coastal walks, castles, ancient forts and family attractions all easy to get to.

Less than a mile from the farm in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is the Iron Age archaeological site of Castell Henllys with its Celtic roundhouses and regular events. Even the most iron-willed history resister should be stoked with a day here, where kids can hear ancient tales of the Pembrokeshire people, train as warriors, take the history trail or take part in some of the 80+ activities arranged here each year.

Beach days are a must around here too: if you feel up for it, you can hike six miles from the farm to reach the coastal path at Newport, part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Path running for 186 miles from Amroth to St. Dogmaels around this part of Wales shoreline.

Family days at Folly Farm, Pembroke Castle, Tenby and Caldey Island are all within 30 miles of the farm.
