Willow Acres Campsite: The kitchen

General

  • Peaceful Brecon Beacons pitches with firepits and outdoor kitchen
  • A five-minute walk to Pontypool Golf Club; 15 minutes up Garn Wen
  • Spacious pitches; bring dogs and extra tents for no added charge

Seeking seclusion, scenery and space? Willow Acres Campsite has the lot in good measure – and with lots of extras thrown in for free too.

Located on Lasgarn Farm, in Torfaen countryside and with fine Brecon Beacons and Severn Estuary views, this peaceful site is run by third-generation farmers looking for eco-friendly ways to support the future of their farm, and who care passionately about the environment (as you’ll see from the compost loo and the handmade wooden shower cubicles).

Pitches here have been created from individually cut areas in a lovely wild meadow, with plenty of space for up to six guests on each one. The space is yours to use as you please – there are no extra charges for dogs, cars or extra tents, making these pitches a great option for families or small groups.

Outdoor evenings here are a real highlight – each pitch has a firepit provided, with a stack of firewood for you to use for free as well. Have a go at cooking your dinner over flames, or wander up to the fabulous covered outdoor kitchen to create something more elaborate (it’s fully set up with a gas hob and all the dishes and pots and pans you might require, so there’s no need to bring much with you).

Please bring a torch as this is a dark-skies site, with no light after dark but the chance to spot the Milky Way glittering far above on clear nights. Pontypool (10 minutes’ drive) is just down the road if you fancy a night out at the pubs and restaurants though.

Please note

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Superb campsite. We stayed in Curley which has lovely views of a mountain, and a beautiful oak tree to sit under.
Owners are fantastic and have created a beautiful site. We saw buzzards, butterflies and dragon flies galore. Our dog loved it, especially the walks from the site. You can walk up into the mountains easily and then hike for miles
Facilities are spot on, and it was super chill. Also have mobile phone signal
Simply perfect we plan to go back as fell in love with the campsite and the area

Great attention to detail in a lovely spot16/08/2022

The owners have clearly put such a lot of thought into this site, and the attention to detail made for a really relaxed trip. Not only did our pitch have its own shower and composting loo, but each pitch has its own covered kitchen area, complete with 4 ring hob (gas included), crockery, pans, table and benches. We were blessed with great weather, but the covered kitchen and fire pit would be very welcome in wet weather.

The pitches are a really good size and well spaced out with long grass in between. Our pitch was beneath an oak tree.

There's a communal covered washing up/lounge area, and another area with fridges, freezers and phone charging. A bag of firewood was included in the fee. The rope swing also proved very popular.

The composting loos were lovely, absolutely no smells, and kept very clean.

The 20 minute walk up the hill behind the site is well worth doing, as you'll be rewarded with some spectacular 360 degree views. You might even meet some miniature ponies roaming about.

The owners were very friendly and welcoming, as were their lovely dogs.

The site is quiet, tucked away above Pontypool, but with a large Tesco about 10 mins drive away. It makes a great base for exploring South Wales (one day we popped over to the Neath area to enjoy the spectacular waterfalls, and it was only about 45 minutes drive).

I can't recommend Willow Acres highly enough, and we can't wait to return.
