  • Quiet riverside site on a farm half an hour's drive from Cardiff
  • A Welsh Coal Mining Experience 15 minutes' drive; Celtic Trail nearby
  • Barbecues welcome on site; mountain biking trails 15 minutes' drive
Stay here for outdoor adventures and gorgeous countryside… Set in the South Wales valleys and a 20-minute drive from Bridgend, Our Welsh Caravan and Camping is a peaceful site on a working sheep farm surrounded by outstanding scenery. This is a nice central base for exploring South Wales: it's half an hour's drive away from Cardiff and an hour from either the stunning Gower peninsula or the Four Waterfalls Walk in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Handily for mountain bikers, the site is at a nice midway point for accessing BikePark Wales (35 minutes' drive) and Afan Forest Park (40 minutes); there are more mountain biking trails in Barry Sidings Countryside Park, 15 minutes' drive away from base. Keen hiker or cyclist? The Celtic Trail is just 300 metres from the site. There are mountain hiking trails over Mynydd y Gaer, 15 minutes' drive away, or the Ogmore Vale mountains to tackle nearby. You could set off on the Taff Ely Ridgeway walk in Glynogwr, five minutes' drive away from the site. If you're not feeling too outdoorsy, the site is a 15-minute drive from Designer Outlet Bridgend for shopping and 35 minutes from the beach in Southerndown. The site is level, at the river's edge on Hendre Ifan Goch Farm. Facilities include toilets, hot showers and a family/disabled room with shower and toilet facilities. This is a quiet site with no noise allowed after 10.30 pm. Barbecues are welcome.

Liked Loved the location, size of site and the quietness...just a great place to pitch up. The facilities were just right. Communal showers, ladies and gents toilets. The room to wash up your dishes very clean and to a great standard. Spare items if you needed. Washing machine, kettle, toaster etc if you wanted to use them in the kitchen area. The owners made it home from home and they have thought about everything to make your camping experience one to remember. Power hook up and water in each quardrant too. So its available right by your tent or camper. Grass pitches for tents, gravel for caravans or campers. All on a flat level. We would visit this site again in the future. Free Wifi too.

Disliked Nothing to dislike at all.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The campsite owner was welcoming and helpful, the campground was very organised and clean. The vibe of the campsite was very pleasant and we wish we were there longer. The even provided a forgot me item basket for those little things you forgotten at home and lovely country walk around were easy to find and accessible. They had an allocated field for games and dogs to explore. Thankyou for a very pleasant visit.

Disliked I wouldn’t say I disliked anything about the campsite, the campsite is very well thought of. I would probably say if families were staying longer and wish to remain on the site for the duration of their stay maybe a little play-area (little play frame) for the children.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Nice, well maintained site, pretty stream running next to it. Friendly, welcoming staff.
Short drive to local amenities. There was a list of takeaways that deliver to the site in the welcoming leaflet, which we didn’t get chance to use, but nice to know!
We didn’t find a dog walking route from the site which was off road, not sure if there was one - we were only there for a night to visit some friends so we maybe missed some highlights.
We would be happy to return again.

Disliked The standard 5 second push taps when having a shower is classic of campsites but so annoying 🫠 water was a nice temp though!

Liked We love this site. We don’t live far but there’s just something about this site that is just relaxing. We had have slightly noisy neighbours but all noise was quiet by 10pm so that wasn’t a problem.

Local attractions

Your local section of the Celtic Trail is National Cycle Network Route 4, which passes 300 metres from the park on its lengthy route from London to Fishguard, and taking in the eastern section of the Celtic Trail, from Swansea to Chepstow, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye. Exploring by foot, it's a mile and a half from the farm to join the Taff Ely Ridgeway Walk through the Ely valley and Taff Vale, starting near Glynogwr and making its way through Llantrisant forest, Llantrisant and Garth Hill – look out from here for splendid views over Cardiff and the Taff valley. The walk then snakes along to Caerphilly Common to finish up among more spectacular scenery from Caerphilly mountain. Going coastwards, Porthcawl is 15 miles or about 25 minutes' drive away for access to sands, surf schools and the Welsh Coast Path, on its huge 870-mile run from Chepstow to Queensferry. Or head to Bridgend to take the interactive Nature Keeper Trail, looking out for 14 digital sculptures highlighting the nature and landscape of this pretty part of Wales.
