General

  • Quiet site in the Bridgend countryside, 18 miles from Cardiff
  • On a working sheep farm close to the Celtic Trail
  • Barbecues, toilets, hot showers and family/disabled room

Have a stay here and you'll surely want to make this place Your Welsh... Our Welsh Caravan and Camping is a peaceful site with high-quality facilities, set in the south Wales valleys in Bridgend, on a working sheep farm surrounded by outstanding scenery.

This is a top spot for outdoor adventuring, with easy access to many mountain bike trails as well as the mighty Celtic Trail made up of 377 miles of bike paths around south, west and mid Wales; the nearest stretch is just 300 metres from the site.

Hikers have mountain trails nearby over Mynydd Y Gaer or across the Ogmore Vale mountains to tackle, or you could set off on the Taff Ely Ridgeway walk a mile and a half away in Glynogwr... or join up on one of the historical walks led by the site owners on some weekends. Less actively, Our Welsh is about 20 minutes' drive from Bridgend for shopping and sightseeing, about 45 minutes from Cardiff, and half an hour from the beach at Southerndown.

The site is level, at the river's edge on Hendre Ifan Goch Farm, where guests are welcome to trot along and meet all the animals. Facilities include toilets, hot showers and a family/disabled room with shower and toilet facilities; there are local produce sales, and barbecues are allowed.

Our Welsh is a quiet site, with no noise allowed after 10.30pm.

It was a pretty full bank holiday weekend at the site. The facilities were kept up to a clean and welcoming standard. The weather being hot in the day, cool in the pm, the stay was very relaxing and was a lovely min-vacation. We are making this site our regular camping location for the foreseeable future :)

This is the second time we have stayed here, not so much for the site itself but its handy location from which to visit nearby relatives. Having said that, it offers plentiful, clean facilities, pleasant and helpful owners/staff, and the river which our children love to play in. And the pitches are level 😊. Great utility area too, where you can "buy" electricity for 20p per 5 mins. You really can't go wrong here.

    Disliked:

Just a couple of petty things. A tumble drier would have been really helpful. And I know this sounds really trite but it's a bit plain - no trees/shrubs to break up the site and make it look more attractive. But they are nit picking things really.

From the manager...

Thank You,we don't have a drier due to fire risk, The field is used as grazing in the winter so no shrubs etc.

The fact that there was still space (and at a reasonable price) over the August bank holiday when booked 4 days before!
The laid back attitude, not feeling stressed over small things. The view of the large field with sheep.

    Disliked:

The whole toilet block lacks ventilation and doors can't be kept open to freshen up. Washing up room is crammed and again extremely warm and uncomfortable. Would probably be ideal in the winter but in August I felt unwell staying in there for a full wash up!

From the manager...

Thank You for your comments. We have had the hottest Bank Holiday on record which leads to the rooms being stuffy (not often an issue in Wales) and the site was very busy. There was a stool in the washing up room to hold the door open if you wished. The toilet doors are not meant to be left open for privacy issues.

This site was perfect for us, we liked the quietness and friendliness and also found it a good location to explore. The showers were always warm, very clean and even when the site was fully booked we never had to queue. The stream was good for the younger children to play in and our dog loved walking in the fields next to the site.

Great welcome. Especially liked the thoughtful provision of "things we might have forgot" such as coffee, tea bags, mugs, washing stuff. Wifi good enough for a fussy teenager to update social and for me to keep in touch with work, but thankfully not for streaming so could still play traditional tent games! Showers and toilets clean and water hot. Nice flat pitches.

    Disliked:

Road a little noisy and pitch lights stayed on late, but that really is looking hard for something negative to say.

From the manager...

Thank You, glad you enjoyed, the pitch lights on the bollards are dusk to Dawn.

Your local section of the Celtic Trail is National Cycle Network Route 4, 300 metres from the park on its lengthy route from London to Fishguard, and taking in the eastern section of the Celtic Trail, from Swansea to Chepstow, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye.

Exploring by foot, it's a mile and a half from the farm to join the Taff Ely Ridgeway Walk through the Ely valley and Taff Vale, starting near Glynogwr and making its way through Llantrisant forest, Llantrisant and Garth Hill – look out from here for splendid views over Cardiff and the Taff valley. The walk then snakes along to Caerphilly Common to finish up among more spectacular scenery from Caerphilly mountain.

Going coastwards, Porthcawl is 15 miles or about 25 minutes' drive away for access to sands, surf schools and the Welsh Coast Path, on its huge 870-mile run from Chepstow to Queensferry. Or head to Bridgend to take the interactive Nature Keeper Trail, looking out for 14 digital sculptures highlighting the nature and landscape of this pretty part of Wales.
