  • Quiet riverside site on a farm half an hour's drive from Cardiff
  • A Welsh Coal Mining Experience 15 minutes' drive; Celtic Trail nearby
  • Barbecues welcome on site; mountain biking trails 15 minutes' drive
Stay here for outdoor adventures and gorgeous countryside… Set in the South Wales valleys and a 20-minute drive from Bridgend, Our Welsh Caravan and Camping is a peaceful site on a working sheep farm surrounded by outstanding scenery. This is a nice central base for exploring South Wales: it's half an hour's drive away from Cardiff and an hour from either the stunning Gower peninsula or the Four Waterfalls Walk in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Handily for mountain bikers, the site is at a nice midway point for accessing BikePark Wales (35 minutes' drive) and Afan Forest Park (40 minutes); there are more mountain biking trails in Barry Sidings Countryside Park, 15 minutes' drive away from base. Keen hiker or cyclist? The Celtic Trail is just 300 metres from the site. There are mountain hiking trails over Mynydd y Gaer, 15 minutes' drive away, or the Ogmore Vale mountains to tackle nearby. You could set off on the Taff Ely Ridgeway walk in Glynogwr, five minutes' drive away from the site. If you're not feeling too outdoorsy, the site is a 15-minute drive from Designer Outlet Bridgend for shopping and 35 minutes from the beach in Southerndown. The site is level, at the river's edge on Hendre Ifan Goch Farm. Facilities include toilets, hot showers and a family/disabled room with shower and toilet facilities. This is a quiet site with no noise allowed after 10.30 pm. Barbecues are welcome.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked The bathrooms were spacious, clean, and well maintained. There was always hot water, and everything was perfectly fine. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Disliked The grass clippings were left on the ground after mowing, so they got carried everywhere. There was also some noise from the nearby road.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely site, big pitches, power and water very close to pitch, Washing up area was fantastic. WC's very clean however, could help with little more extraction.

Showers were hot and had good water flow, very clean although the cubicles were very small giving no dry area within the cubical and the push button gave a very short shower time.

Didn't use it but really liked that on arrival we were given a list of places that deliver food to the site, will use this next time when arriving.

Looking forwards to retuning in the future.

Powered grass campsite (family)

Liked Nice and tranquil place. Very kind and professional lady at reception. Clean facilities. Pitches with electricity and no electricity. Electricity and Tap water in few meters of every pitch. Had amazing time with kids. There is a little stream of water nearby which added flavour to a beautiful natural surrounding. Would recommend to friends and families.

Liked Large Pitch Sizes
Lots of hot water in Toilets, Showers and Washing Up Station (which was inside). They also had games and magazines and we had a great night playing the Best of British Quiz which we returned after use, thanks!

Disliked Sometime nice to have a bit of shrubbery between the pitches

Powered grass campsite (family)

Liked The campsite is lovely- quiet, a beautiful location, I really enjoyed that some pitches had picnic tables, really well equipped little kitchen for if you’ve forgotten anything and it was nice to have washing up stuff provided. The little shop also sold some essentials. Check in was easy and we had our choice of pitches which were a good size.

Disliked One of my children became very sick after playing in the stream and we had to go to local A&E. Lady at the desk later informed me that there is a sewage run off into it- loads of kids were playing in the stream and the gate to it was open. Maybe a warning sign or warning people on arrival would be a good idea, otherwise access to it should be blocked off.

The river is on private land that we give people permission to walk dogs if we haven't got sheep there it is not part of the campsite. The river is blocked off, both gates are locked and secured with notices. Any one there is at their own risk.
The stream is very clear and has wildlife on it. We have had a severe heat wave can A&E say that his symptoms were from the river?

Lovely pitch, with very clean showers,…

Powered grass campsite

Liked Lovely little site with a wonderful warm welcome from the host who is on site much of the time.
The toilets & showers were always clean and the wash up room was like you were at home. Free facilities, wash up liquid, pads etc. and even free tea & coffee as well as a good quality book swap & even OS maps to borrow. All on an honesty basis.
Good size pitches and grass at a really comfortable height, not scalped like some sites.
We couldn’t fault the site & it was ideally located to meet with friends & attend the Blackbird Festival in Cardiff.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

Your local section of the Celtic Trail is National Cycle Network Route 4, which passes 300 metres from the park on its lengthy route from London to Fishguard, and taking in the eastern section of the Celtic Trail, from Swansea to Chepstow, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye. Exploring by foot, it's a mile and a half from the farm to join the Taff Ely Ridgeway Walk through the Ely valley and Taff Vale, starting near Glynogwr and making its way through Llantrisant forest, Llantrisant and Garth Hill – look out from here for splendid views over Cardiff and the Taff valley. The walk then snakes along to Caerphilly Common to finish up among more spectacular scenery from Caerphilly mountain. Going coastwards, Porthcawl is 15 miles or about 25 minutes' drive away for access to sands, surf schools and the Welsh Coast Path, on its huge 870-mile run from Chepstow to Queensferry. Or head to Bridgend to take the interactive Nature Keeper Trail, looking out for 14 digital sculptures highlighting the nature and landscape of this pretty part of Wales.
