General

  • Family-run site with plenty of nearby walks
  • Dog friendly
  • Newly-built amenities cabin with hot showers

Woodland Rise Camping and Caravanning is a place for west Wales walkies. It's a family-run farm in the Carmarthenshire countryside, with plenty of space for dogs to stretch their legs and with local woodland trails where they can investigate All The Smells. And it's close to bluebell woods, and less than half an hour from magnificent coastal walks along the headlands of Carmarthenshire and Cardigan...

Woodland Rise is in a meadow location on the farm of Fferm Fach in the quiet village of Blaen-y-coed, a peacefully rural location with west Wales views by day and starry skies by night. It has a newly-built and cosy amenities cabin with well-maintained toilets, two additional separate toilets, hot showers and washing-up facilities; a chemical disposal point and gas sales. Wifi is available for an extra fee, but please note that the rural location imposes limits on the wifi speed.

The nearest place for supplies is Carmarthen about six miles away; nearby restaurants include the Blue Bell Inn Chinese restaurant (two miles) and the Nag's Head (ten miles). Barbecues are allowed on site.

Please note

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Best camping site I've ever been to! The location was idyllic - very peaceful and secluded. Beautiful views of the hills and a wind farm. We had a wonderful welcome from the owner Trevor who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The facilities were exceptionally clean and included toilet paper, towels, shower gel and drinking water at no extra cost. Trevor gave us a map and talked us through a nearby Woodland Walk which was very enjoyable although you do need strong legs for the hills and uneven terrain! It's a fantastic place for families with children and dogs if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I have nothing bad to say about this place, it is AMAZING! Thank you Trevor, you will see us next year for sure!

We enjoyed our stay at Woodlands Rise, located about 6 miles from Camarthen. The pitch was flat, wifi very good. On Trevor's recommendation we enjoyed a 3 mile circular walk (Henry's walk) which is by the site. You can hire a fire pits for the duration of your stay. Plenty of room on site for tents, caravans and motor homes, with electric hook up. Toilets were fine, showers could possibly do with updating but to be fair the water pressure was great.
We took our bikes but the local roads are very hilly and narrow so we didn't use them! No local shop or pub so you need a car to get around or a well stocked fridge! For a short stop over it was great.
Trevor, site owner was very helpful and friendly.

This site is in the middle of nowhere BUT in the middle of everything we wanted to visit. It was nice to go from the busy beaches and tourist attractions back to a quiet site. Lovely warm showers a plus, clean dry hand towels every day in the loos and really good to have a kitchen where you could sit out of the rain! Fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle and microwave provided for anyone to use. Friendly owner - you know that if you needed anything he would be there to help. Lots of good suggestions of places to visit and things to do in the area. All in all a really good find. Thank you.

Just come back after 7 nights at woodland rise with my fella and three young children. Lovely clean and pretty site with good facilities. USB ports in the kitchen area with toaster and microwave as well as fridge freezer. Baby changing facilities which good for us as I have a four month old baby. Trevor who manages the site it very friendly and very helpful. He met us when we arrived and gave us a tour, information on supermarkets, places to visit and country walks. Highly recommend this site. Really enjoyed are stay be back next year.

Lovely small quiet campsite. Loved the fact that it was quiet after 10- if you want loud and rowdy- go elsewhere. If you want peace and quiet- stay here. Bargain price- no extra charges for children or dogs. Loved the use of a kitchen- fridge/freezer kettle and toaster. Cosmetically the showers aren't great- but the shower itself was divine- and that's what matters. Clean. Tidy. Helpful recycling system. Pretty flowers. For the price paid you really can't go wrong.

    Disliked:

Sloped pitch- we slid down the tent during the night- but can't see how this can be changed. Mirrors in the toilets would be really helpful as the ones in the showers can be steamed up if someone has just used them

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving your review of Woodland Rise.
We are pleased that you liked our quiet site after Ten policy and that you found our facilities and tariff likeable. We provide a small squeegee in both shower rooms so the mirrors can be cleared after showering.
Having read your comment about mirrors in the other toilet facilities we set to that day and put mirrors in both of the toilets together with a splashback to the handbasin area so that when you next visit you will find the shower/wetrooms and the additional toilets upgraded as you have suggested.

Very friendly owner was always happy to help and could often be seen helping new arrivals setting up.

Washroom/washing up facilities are small but in keeping with the size of the site.

Kettle, toaster, fridge, freezer and USB sockets available for use. Fire pits available for hire at a very reasonable rate. Logs are also available for sale along with a selection of ice cream and lollipops.

The view of the stars at night is worth the stay alone, there's also a great view of the sunset from the top fields.

There is wi-fi available for £1 a day, I didn't purchase so can't rate. Mobile signal was great.

Local attractions

Feel free to wander around the Woodland Rise meadow grounds if you fancy a stroll very close to home; a short walk away from site is a bluebell wood recommended by the farm team for morning meanders.

The 600 acres of countryside, formal gardens and a nature reserve of the National Botanic Gardens of Wales are 15 miles or about half an hour's drive away and are a ripping option for a day out (although be aware that you won't be allowed in if you do have your dog on holiday with you).

The Dylan Thomas Boathouse, where the writer spent the last four years of his life, is about 15 miles away at Laugharne and has lyrically good views of the Taf Estuary and a tearoom noted as one of the top ten places in the UK for afternoon tea (soup, snacks, light lunches, homemade Welsh cakes and bara beith are also available).

The 11h-century castle of Kidwelly 17 miles away is a must-see for history buffs in the region, still surviving after Owain Glyndwr’s attempts to destroy it (naughty);. If you fancy more of the same, Kidwelly is one of 12 castles in Carmarthenshire.

A bit further afield at 24 miles but well worth the drive is the Colby Woodland Garden in Pembrokeshire, managed by the National Trust: come here to build dens, use the rope swings, amble along on a wildlife walk or join in the regular activities like campfire building.

About six miles from Woodland Rise Camping and Caravanning, the Gwili Steam Railway company runs a preserved service from Bronwydd along a section of the old Carmarthen-Aberstwyth line.
