General

  • Family-run camping and caravan site with lots of nearby walks
  • Dog friendly
  • Newly-built amenities cabin with hot showers

Woodland Rise Camping and Caravanning is a place for west Wales walkies. It's a family-run farm in the Carmarthenshire countryside, with plenty of space for dogs to stretch their legs and with local woodland trails where they can investigate All The Smells. And it's close to bluebell woods, and less than half an hour from magnif coastal walks along the headlands of Carmarthenshire and Cardigan...

Woodland Rise is in a meadow location on the farm of Fferm Fach in the quiet village of Blaen-y-coed, a peacefully rural location with west Wales views by day and starry skies by night. It has a newly-built and cosy amenities cabin with well-maintained toilets, two additional separate toilets, hot showers and washing-up facilities; a chemical disposal point and gas sales. Wifi is available for an extra fee, but please note that the rural location imposes limits on the wifi speed.

The nearest place for supplies is Carmarthen about six miles away; nearby restaurants include the Blue Bell Inn Chinese restaurant (two miles) and the Nag's Head (ten miles). Barbecues are allowed on site.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Fantastic family site that provides a lovey safe environment for kids 30/08/2017

This site is very well maintained and has fantastic amenities, we particularly liked the shower facilities. The site provides a secure safe environment for kids to have little adventures themselves or just play in the large field area in the middle of the campsite. The Ice creams are a very nice touch the kids loved them, the owner is very friendly and happy to help. I would definitely recommend this site to friends and family and would return again. Looking at other recent reviews, if you go to a family run campsite in the middle of the summer holidays you are always going to get kids running around, playing ball games and playing with lights as it gets dark as its all part of the fun of camping for them.

Just stayed here again - first time last year. More facilities have been added making our stay even more enjoyable. It's a lovely area and generally very quiet. An added bonus is they now sell ice creams! I suggest David should not camp in the school holidays?!

Fabulous location and a really well-maintained site. Couldn't fault the facilities and the added bonus of a kettle, toaster and microwave in the kitchen/wash-up room was a great touch. Luxury to be able to heat up a wheat cushion and get the sleeping bag warmed-up! The owner was welcoming, friendly and managed the site and all the customers calmly and politely. Fire pits and bbq's available to hire too plus ice-creams! Family and dog-friendly site with particularly generous pitches.
Weather was great so we enjoyed a day at the beach at Poppit Sands with our 3 grown-up children. Only there for two nights so will definitely be back to see more. Thanks for a lovely stay.

What a really nice site the owner keeps it really clean and well maintained. The shower block is cleaned regularly and there's a room with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. If you're in a tent there's a microwave, toaster and a kettle I was staying in my caravan so didn't need to use these facilities. The owner is really nice and helpful he even helped me push my caravan into position as my battery had died on my motormover. There was a lovely crowd of people in the couple of caravans next to us. It's a lovely big field and the kids had a lovely time playing cricket and making lots of new friends. Unfortunately there was on camper intent on ruining it for them. David-h162506 was constantly shouting at them for either walking past his tent or playing ball. He actually threw their ball into another field. I've read is 2* review on here and he's talking absolute nonsense the campsite has a lovely family feel to it (since he left) if I was you David I would pack up camping you're obviously not a people person and stop leaving rubbish reviews that are so far from the truth. The only reason you didn't enjoy and left early is because of you! I will definitely be coming back here time and time again.

Not a peaceful campsite, suited more to stags hen party's. 28/08/2017

Beautiful setting, site located with lots of fields around it, with adequate facilities.

    Disliked:

This is a very loud campsite with music thumping from 3pm through the night until 3am, children running through your pitch and playing games and shinning lights into tents until gone midnight, and ball games and water fights played on the pitch that you have paid for and have a tent on by unruly children who repeatedly hit the tent, and all this is endorsed by the site owner. In short we were not suited to this campsite as we were after a peaceful family break, and this campsite is more suited to stags, hen party's, and disrespectful families.

From the manager...

We're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay. We try to strike a balance between the enjoyment of all our guests, and not having too many rigid rules. We expect our visitors to be courteous to each other and to keep any noise to a minimum between 10pm and 7am, although on such a busy weekend a gentle reminder is sometimes needed. The camping accommodation is adjacent to our home so we would certainly be aware of "thumping music until 3am". We must correct one further falsehood in your review, which is that during the bank Holiday weekend in question every pitch was occupied by a family group. We have never had Stag or Hen parties staying, however, we wouldn't discriminate against such groups if they wanted to enjoy a weekend of quiet, rural camping.

Facilities - kitchen with fridge, freezer and kettle + microwave (not tested).
Green credentials - sensor lights for energy saving in toilets and bathrooms / kitchen plus USB plug in kitchen power socket for phone charging etc.
Set in a quiet, tranquil surroundings - max 5 cars passing by during the day on the road at the bottom of campsite.
Spacious site - not cramped with neighbouring tents / caravans.
Trevor was very friendly and helpful throughout.

    Disliked:

Had a good start to our stay (despite the weather), but other parties arriving later in the week were not great company (loud and leaving bathrooms and kitchen messy) which dampened our stay a bit.

From the manager...

Thank you for the review. Glad you enjoyed the location and the facilities. The bank holiday weekend was very busy and we try to balance the requirements of all our guests so we're sorry that your stay was dampened in this way.

We are pleased you felt that our site is comfortable and secure for your children. While there is no surrounding fence it is remote enough that people passing on the road are very few. This adds to the open atmosphere that you enjoyed and we hope you will visit again in future.
Thank you for your kind words.

Local attractions

Feel free to wander around the Woodland Rise meadow grounds if you fancy a stroll very close to home; a short walk away from site is a bluebell wood recommended by the farm team for morning meanders.

The 600 acres of countryside, formal gardens and a nature reserve of the National Botanic Gardens of Wales are 15 miles or about half an hour's drive away and are a ripping option for a day out (although be aware that you won't be allowed in if you do have your dog on holiday with you).

The Dylan Thomas Boathouse, where the writer spent the last four years of his life, is about 15 miles away at Laugharne and has lyrically good views of the Taf Estuary and a tearoom noted as one of the top ten places in the UK for afternoon tea (soup, snacks, light lunches, homemade Welsh cakes and bara beith are also available).

The 11h-century castle of Kidwelly 17 miles away is a must-see for history buffs in the region, still surviving after Owain Glyndwr’s attempts to destroy it (naughty);. If you fancy more of the same, Kidwelly is one of 12 castles in Carmarthenshire.

A bit further afield at 24 miles but well worth the drive is the Colby Woodland Garden in Pembrokeshire, managed by the National Trust: come here to build dens, use the rope swings, amble along on a wildlife walk or join in the regular activities like campfire building.

About six miles from Woodland Rise Camping and Caravanning, the Gwili Steam Railway company runs a preserved service from Bronwydd along a section of the old Carmarthen-Aberstwyth line.
