Plasyngheidio Touring Caravan Park: Seating area and swings

General

  • Well-maintained and quiet site on a working family farm
  • Just over a mile to the sandy beach and coastal path of Nefyn
  • A 10-minute walk from the local pub

Peacefully placed on the Llŷn Peninsula and surrounded by coastal and mountain scenery, Plasyngheidio Touring Caravan Park is on a working farm run by the same family for four generations.

The site is small and friendly, in quiet countryside but close to activities and attractions around Pwllheli and the peninsula: it's just over a mile to the seaside town and sandy beach of Nefyn, Abersoch is within 20 minutes, and the spectacular Llŷn Peninsula Coastal Path stretches for 91 miles of splendid coastline from Caernarfon and Porthmadog. Away from the peninsula (if you must) Snowdonia National Park is within 30 minutes and Anglesey within 40 (you must).

Amenities include ladies' and gents' showers and toilets, a wheelchair-accessible and family bathroom, and free wifi throughout the site. The grounds are level and well lit, but please note you'll need a torch when making the 10-minute walk back from the local pub.

Please note

Reception is unmanned after 7 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

A charge of £0.50 applies for the use of the shower.

Electricity is metered on site at £0.20 per kWh and must be paid at check-out.

The shower block is open but under strict cleaning duties.

Site was small and quiet. Facilities were immaculate.

    Disliked:

Too many rules to adhere to. Too many don't do this and don't do that. Campers be aware the price is only for the pitch and water. Other additional costs include:- electric, shower, hairdryer, coffee machine, washer/drier. Free wifi advertised but this was not provided.

From the manager...

Aaaa our lovely Tina. thanks for the review. But the reason we have so many rules in place is only because people like yourself leaving dog muck around every where, and not even picking it up, even not taking other people to consider of, noise and attitude was absolutely disgusting . as I said luckily we do not have this kind of behaviour often on our site. This site is quiet but most of all friendly. Respectful, family holiday. I do respect that it not for everybody way of life, but that is how our camp site is clean and tidy and do have so many brilliant reviews. You only have to look them up.
but on that note we do not wish to see you back again. And I do hope you find your desire campsite.

What a lovely little site. Immaculately clean , modern facilities and a lovely owner and daughter who made me feel very welcome.

Level pitches. Would recommend. Roads have no pavements so need to be aware of the traffic.

Pub within a short walk, i didn’t go in but it always looked busy.

I had trouble getting a decent tv signal but had my own WiFi so found plenty to watch on the fire stick channels

Local attractions

It's a 10-minute trip by car to the wide, south-facing sands at Pwllheli, a former haunt of smugglers and pirates. You'll find it quite a bit calmer these days, especially if you follow the fab Llyn Coastal Path round the peninsula for views and wildlife and splendid sea air. Sandcastles, paddling and rockpool exploration are all there by the sea, but don't overlook the town and its lively twice-weekly market.

For a break from the beach, try Glasfryn Parc (10 minutes' drive), a multi-activity centre where you can ride quad bikes and go-karts, meet farm animals, fish and try your hand at wakeboarding. Anything else? Oh yes, archery… and bowling.

The coast will call you back of course and when it does, head half an hour to Port Meudwy and catch a boat to Bardsey. Occupied since Neolithic times, later home to monks and saints, this wild little outcrop is a place of peace and beauty and a fab array of birdlife; you might spot grey seals swimming by the boat too.

Check out Caernarfon Castle, sturdily built in the 13th century and still going (35 minutes' drive): dungeons and battlements as well as the odd re-enactment are on offer here. At Greenwood Forest Park (45 minutes), there's a fine spread of family thrills with an ecological twist: ride the solar waterslide, experience the world's first people-powered rollercoaster and whoop your way round the 70-metre sledge run.

Must see

  • Criccieth Castle (12.7 miles)
  • Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog) (16.9 miles)
  • Ffestiniog Railway (17.1 miles)

  • Plas yn Rhiw (7.6 miles)
  • Plas Newydd Country House and Gardens (23.4 miles)
