General site and non electric grass pitches in the peaceful village of Llanbedr
Grass tent and motorhome pitch
Local area
River

  • Peaceful village site by the Artro river and two miles from the coast
  • Portmeirion 25 minutes' drive; 50 minutes to Snowdon
  • Families, motorcyclists and Duke of Edinburgh groups welcome
It's a breeze to get down to the coast from this site in Gwynedd, as The Mill Caravan Park and Camping Site is a mere two miles from the beach. Set on the edge of the peaceful village of Llanbedr, close to Snowdonia National Park, it’s also well-placed for waterside wanders, as the peaceful river Artro can be accessed a few metres from the pitches. Being so close to the village centre makes staying here a fair bit easier. In terms of food, Llanbedr's shops, restaurants and pubs are five minutes away on foot. Transport-wise, there are buses, the A496 that heads up into the mountains and, on the western side of the village, Llanbedr railway station (about 20 minutes’ walk). Back on site, you'll be settling down in the main site field, a wide open space with vistas over a thickly forested hill. Barbecues and dogs are welcome here. The Mill Caravan Park and Camping Site is popular with family groups, motorcyclists on road trips around the national park and Duke of Edinburgh groups, who regularly stop off here to take advantage of the great views and transport links. The fact that the Welsh coast is so close is another big plus: Barmouth and Harlech are 15 minutes' drive from site, while the pastel-coloured houses of Portmeirion are 25 minutes away.

Liked Good site for a basic getaway in a good location at a sensible price. Facilities basic but that's OK. I was literally the only person on the site which may have helped the experience. I was in a campervan with our dog.

Liked This place is very quite.

Disliked The facilities are extremely neglected and could do with a good clean. Bins were over flowing with rubbish. I would describe this campsite as very basic.

Liked The campsite is in a lovely location and has the potential to be really amazing. We were greeted by the host who was really friendly.

Disliked Unfortunately we only stayed for about an hour. We arrived at 3pm to an already busy site with 2 families pitched in the middle and a group of young males (who were actually respectful and we had no issues with). We left space between the group of males and where we parked however another group of 4 older males arrived and pitched the tent and car between our van and the group of young males, guided by the host. Their guide ropes were put behind our van without even asking, when asked if they could be moved we were told no and that it was behind our van anyway (we cook out of the back of it as that’s how it’s set up). They then started playing loud music and began to take out huge butcher knives for their meat. By the time we left the campsite felt extremely crammed with no personal space what so ever. The booking does say no single-sex groups so this was also disappointing.
Toilets are extremely basic and did not feel clean. Despite being labelled as male and female, there seemed to be no regard given to this and multiple males used the female toilets.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The area, the campsite itself, the facilities.

Disliked Very small camping area which was full during the bank holiday weekend. We were grateful to get a pitch though as everywhere else was choca. There was quite a bit of noise until midnight, but it was a bank holiday and it didn’t really bother us that much.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback Jamie, we apologise if there was noise during the bank holiday period. On arrival we make everyone aware of the noise curfew however if we aren’t made aware of the noise as it’s taking place sometimes it’s not possible to rectify.

Lovely setting and on the whole really enjoyable.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Greeted upon arrival by John, gave me a brief rundown on where things were and told me i could pitch anywhere but to be mindful of more guests arriving so bunch up a bit. (It was bank holiday so being busy was to be expected. Had a lovely peaceful night on the Saturday. The toilet s, shower and washroom were basic and functional. Would i return, absolutely.

Disliked Sunday evening, could hear music playing, but I did turn in earlier than usual. Two families arrived and pitched in the centre of the field and the adults were quite loud (i thought) and a very vocal dog at just gone 2am.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback Steve, we are glad you had a pleasant stay. We apologise for any noise, we give customers on arrival a run down of the noise policy however if we aren’t made aware of noise taking place at the time we are unable to rectify.

Liked Location was perfect. Five minutes from pubs/a cafe and 20 min walk to the waterfalls. Stunning surroundings! Facilities were basic but good. Appreciated that the owner kept an eye on/spoke to a group of young lads to make sure they were being quiet. We enjoyed our stay there.

Liked We had the field to ourselves in night 2. 😁Easy walk into the village with 3 pubs (all do food) and a fab village shop which was open at 8pm. Basic toilet, shower block and washing up facilities which did tge job, price of stay was a bargain in such a lovely village with dramatic scenery. Quick 5mind drive to Capel Salem…a Welsh must to visit.⛪️

Disliked Work in progress which the owner relayed and it was really early on in the season to be fair. So this is a statement rather than a dislike.

Local attractions

Beach time at Barmouth (15 minutes' drive) will keep the kids happy in fine weather, while for a bit of high-adrenaline adventure there's also the go-karting on offer at Glasfryn Parc (45 minutes) or Zip World Fforest (45 minutes), home to Wales' famous forest rollercoaster. For the bravest thrill-seekers, this site is also conveniently close to Skydiving Snowdonia (five minutes). Hiking up mountains such as Snowdon (50 minutes) in the National Park is another popular option. Cader Idris (an hour and 10 minutes) is also a very popular peak and has great views over southern Snowdonia, plus you'll often get the chance to see planes zooming over the Mach Loop low-flying aircraft practice area on its eastern flank. There's also a lot of history around these parts, as these ancient hills have been inhabited since before written records began. Head to Llanbedr's neolithic standing stones (a few minutes' walk from site) if you want to learn more, or take the time to visit the imposing castle in Harlech (15 minutes), built in 1290 in a strategic position overlooking the Irish Sea as part of the so-called Iron Ring.
