  • Luxury ensuite and heated pods in Snowdonia National Park
  • A mile from the closest beach at Cardigan Bay
  • Two minutes' walk from Llanbedr village
Snowdonia National Park and spectacular Cardigan Bay… two utterly fab spots for a Welsh holiday. Add in luxury camping pods with TV and heating; proximity to the famed old town of Harlech, and options for days out sea fishing, ziplining, estuary boating and steam railway puffing… among more… and all your boxes will be ticked at Artro Lodges. Just inside Snowdonia National Park, Artro is a mile from its closest beach at Cardigan Bay, under 10 minutes' drive from the UNESCO-listed 13th-century Harlech Castle, and 25 minutes from Porthmadog and the start of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway… making room for all is much recommended on your holiday. All luxury pods at Artro come with a double bed and a sofa bed, a TV and a kitchen area (you'll need to bring bedding and pillows along if you're planning to use the sofa bed for sleeping). Llanbedr village, two minutes' walk away, has several pubs and a well-stocked convenience store; the nearest major supermarkets are in Porthmadog. If you're venturing out around coast and countryside by public transport, a bus stop is two minutes' walk from the site and a train station within 10. Artro Lodges operates as a 'peace and quiet' site: no noise after 11 pm, please.

Camping pod

Liked On arrival we found the pod was very clean, all towels/bedding etc were included as were all the kitchen utensils/crockery etc.
Pod is equipped with microwave, fridge, tv etc
Must comment on the whistle kettle, made my day when we saw it 😄
Bathroom/toilet were clean and shower was lovely and warm.

Site itself is very quiet which was great, not far from shops or leisure. information booklet provided on arrival.

Received a text prior to arriving from Jackie and contact throughout our stay which again was great.

Would go again and have already recommended to friends and family

Camping pod

Liked Was a really nice break, the pod was so warm and cozy, bed very comfy, and very peaceful. We could park our motorbike right next to it.the little veranda outside had a table and chairs to sit out.

Disliked Shower was really powerful and water lovely and hot, but the cubicle really small, my husband struggled a bit .
The blinds would be better darker as it was light very early.

Camping pod

Liked It was a nice base to stay whilst visiting North Wales. The pod was clean apart from the mould in the shower. It was very quiet (though this was also a downside for us, we were hoping to see other families there and literally saw 2 people).
My 8 year old son was happy on the sofa bed but in my opinion it would be too small for 2 children of his age and above.

Disliked - No contact from the owners to ask about the stay, in which case I would’ve communicated this with them. However, I did get an email from pitch up inviting me to provide feedback so here I am…

- Check out on Pitch Up is clearly listed as 10am, however the info sheet in the pod from the owners states this is 9am. I just looked and there’s a review from last year letting the owners know of this discrepancy and it’s clearly not been rectified since then. This is misleading and goes against what customers agree to when making the booking.
- The lock on the door of the pod is very stiff. Luckily there was someone cutting the grass who was able to help me. I really struggled with his each time we needed to lock and unlock the door.
- I disposed of around 8 wood lice inside the pod. Clearly a couple is ok, you’re in the middle of a field but this felt like a problem.
- The shower is tiny which is fine, however, coupled with the mould around the bottom of the shower, we opted not to use it as I felt we would end up accidentally touching it with our feet due to there not being much room.
- I’d take an eye mask, the pods would benefit from darker blinds as the current ones serve no protection from the early morning sun waking you up.

From the manager: In response to you're Disliked
No contact from the Owners
We text you as we do everyone prior to you're stay as a matter of courtesy re time of arrival and to Bring bedding for the sofa bed if required to which you replied Thanks! Already on my list to pack:)
The check out time we will alter it
In the middle of a field ? the pods are next to a recreation field and 23 other lodges and 500mtrs from the Village so to be honest I don't know how to reply to this comment .
Re the other items we will address these as soon as

Please note we feel you're comments on customer services and score is very unjustified given the fact we text you personally and two mobiles are given for you to ring and we only rely on Pitchup for feedback as other wise you would receive two feed back notifications

Camping pod

Liked The pod was clean and well laid out for the size.very quiet site which suited myself and 2 sons as we only needed a base for hiking.

Disliked It states on the website departure at 10 but in the pod it states 9 with a list of cleaning chores. After climbing Snowdon the day previous it would of been nice to wake up and chill before a lengthy drive home.photos showed football goals and lake but no explanation where they were very deceiving as you are led to believe these are at the campsite.

Camping pod

Liked Really snug little pod kitted with great power shower, loo, hob, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Was brill for our little family.
Would visit again!

Disliked Felt there was maybe a lack of community. Almost a little 'too' quiet as we didn't see anyone about yet our kids were running around being ferrel! Haha. Still lovely and peaceful though.

Local attractions

Artro Lodges is between the Rhinog mountains and Cardigan Bay, with weeks' worth of stuff to see and do for active and sightseeing days. Take a trip to Blaenau Ffestiniog for both: this is where the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway ends up at on its 13-mile puff from Porthmadog and is now also the setting of mountain bike trails, treetop adventuring, underground zipwiring and the spectacular Llechwedd slate caverns. Meandering towards the seaside (very easy to do from around here), combine sands and castle with a day at Harlech, the seaside town on Tremadog Bay with medieval Harlech Castle. As you'll doubtless already know, the castle was the site of the longest siege in British history (during the Wars of the Roses, but you doubtless know that too); take the floating bridge over to its cliffside setting to learn all about it in the swish visitor centre. For another seaside day, drive for 10 minutes (or take the train for 25) to Barmouth, for walks along the promenade and huge beach, or bike rides along the nine and a half-mile Mawddach Trail along the Mawddach estuary. If you're up for stretching your legs further, there's a cracking walk to Cregennen Lakes from Barmouth – with waterfall and mountain views along the way.
