General

  • Luxury ensuite and heated pods in Snowdonia National Park
  • A mile from the closest beach at Cardigan Bay
  • Two minutes' walk from Llanbedr village

Snowdonia National Park and spectacular Cardigan Bay... two utterly fab spots for a Welsh holiday. Add in luxury camping pods with TV and heating; proximity to the famed old town of Harlech, and options for days out sea fishing, ziplining, estuary boating and steam railway puffing... among more... and all your boxes will be ticked at Artro Lodges.

Just inside Snowdonia National Park, Artro is a mile from its closest beach at Cardigan Bay, under 10 minutes' drive from the UNESCO-listed 13th-century Harlech Castle, and 25 minutes from Porthmadog and the start of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway... making room for all is much recommended on your holiday.

All luxury pods at Artro come with a double bed and a sofa bed, a TV and a kitchen area. Llanbedr village two minutes' walk away has several pubs and a well-stocked convenience store; the nearest major supermarkets are in Porthmadog.

If you're venturing out around coast and countryside by public transport, a bus stop is two minutes' walk from the site and a train station within 10.

Artro Lodges operates as a 'peace and quiet' site: no noise after 11 pm, please.

Heating was plentiful, space enough for two, unexpected towels and kitchen products, great location for exploring the area with a few places to eat within walking distance. A peaceful area and plenty of parking.

    Disliked:

Would have taken our own pillows as they weren't right for us. There wasn't a bottler opener or cork screw which I thought should have been there. Maybe a small drawer unit between the bed and sofa would be an idea to unpack a few things and maybe a mirror in the lounge somewhere. This isn't a criticism just a few ideas of how to improve it for the next time.

Location was ideal for hill walking and if you like the outdoors, the pod is plenty big enough for 2 people. Heating is more than adequate throughout the and the cooking facilities are perfect if you're used to glamping. The owners are very friendly and helpful and suggested the best places to visit, the local pubs are well worth a visit and the food they serve is just what you want after a day on the hills. Would thoroughly recommend staying here to anyone who wants to explore the area.

Very sweet little pods. Enough room for two people. Any more would be too tight. Great location. Didn’t go to the local pubs as reviews weren’t very good. Drive to Harlech near by which was very nice.

    Disliked:

Bed very uncomfortable. Bedding needs changing as very flat and the pillows. Bathroom very cold this time of year. Heater seemed to time out so cold when we woke up. Maybe a bit too expensive for what it is?

From the manager...

We are obviously very disappointed as this is the lowest score ever whilst we can’t influence your opinion as to value for money we believe it compares extremely well to similar accommodation. Also it was dissapointing that you didn’t even try any of the three very good local pubs as you would of been pleasantly surprised as to the bed and linen as we do not receive any poor grades or negative comments we consider that they are perfectly acceptable to the majority of guests.
Finally the heating is not on a timer but is on a thermostat so if you set it at say 21c it will maintain that temperature regardless so the only way it may have been cold is if you set the temperature too low .As you knew we live on site and are very contactable if you had contacted us we would have corrected you with the heater and even swoped the linen as maintaining our score us important to us .

Local attractions

Artro Lodges is between the Rhinog mountains and Cardigan Bay, with weeks' worth of stuff to see and do for active and sightseeing days. Take a trip to Blaenau Ffestiniog for both: this is where the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway ends up at on its 13-mile puff from Porthmadog and is now also the setting of mountain bike trails, treetop adventuring, underground zipwiring and the spectacular Llechwedd slate caverns.

Meandering towards the seaside (very easy to do from around here), combine sands and castle with a day at Harlech, the seaside town on Tremadog Bay with medieval Harlech Castle. As you'll doubtless already know, the castle was the site of the longest siege in British history (during the Wars of the Roses, but you doubtless know that too); take the floating bridge over to its cliffside setting to learn all about it in the swish visitor centre.

For another seaside day, drive for 10 minutes (or take the train for 25) to Barmouth, for walks along the promenade and huge beach, or bike rides along the nine and a half-mile Mawddach Trail along the Mawddach estuary.

Must see

  • CADW - Harlech Castle (2.8 miles)
  • Portmeirion Gardens (6.6 miles)
  • Ffestiniog Railway (7.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Ty^ Mawr Wybrnant (19.4 miles)
  • Plas yn Rhiw (21.7 miles)
