General

  • Stay on a working farm site in Snowdonia National Park
  • Haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: lots of nearby trails
  • Less than half an hour’s drive from the Welsh coast beaches

You won’t want to hide among the bushes during your stay at Llwyn yr Helm Caravan Park, a family-friendly site on a working farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Dolgellau in Gwynedd – this place is all about getting out and about.

In the southern reaches of Snowdonia National Park, Llwyn yr Helm is a haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: Mawddach trail, Torrent Walk and Precipice Walk all start in Dolgellau, and Cadair Idris mountain’s Minfford Path starts less than 15 minutes from site. That’s the hikers sorted, so what about the bikers? Coed y Brenin Biking and Visitor Centre is 20 minutes away, and the fab Antur Stiniog downhill biking trails are within an hour.

If you’re not much of an outdoor adventurer, there’s plenty else nearby: try plane spotting at the famous Mach Loop, ziplining at Zip World Slate Caverns or poking around the scenic Italianate village of Portmeirion – or you could make a beeline to the beaches and harbours at Fairbourne or Barmouth, where boat trips and watersports abound?

Back on site, fire up the barbecue for dinner (essentials can be sorted in the on-site shop) then kick up your feet in the evening, soaking in the views of the Cadair Idris mountain range, reading, or watching a DVD borrowed from reception. If you’d prefer to venture out, there are plenty of restaurants to try within 25 minutes of the site.

Nice play park for the children plus a nice stream

we were very fortunate and it was very quiet so we had lots of space
the site staff were very friendly and very welcoming

The pitches were a good size

A good location for Barmouth not very far away as we use this site to visit friends in Barmouth

The shop was well stocked but on a small scale

    Disliked:

Toilets were fairly clean and so were the showers however they do need a refurbishment.

Not sure how they cope in the height of the season because there’s very few toilets and showers

Also not a lot of washing up stations

The pitches are grass so not very good for tourer vans we took wooden blocks as the ground is soft

Also unfortunately I missed on the write-up that the showers use 20 p as we always try to avoid showers that are at an additional cost to your booking price

also we had to pay for an awning which is not something we had to do before another sites

From the manager...

We are sorry to hear that your stay was not as you expected. We try our very best to ensure that all our guests have an enjoyable stay and feel welcome. We pride ourselves on being honest and upfront about the facilities we have to offer and have included details and pictures on our Pitchup listing of all facilities and pitches.
Luckily,as we are only a small park with a limited number of touring pitches we are able to ensure that the toilet and shower facilities are not overstretched, as you saw during the bank holiday weekend they rarely seem busy.

You will be glad to hear that our very functional (if a little dated) toilet block is in the planning stages of a refurbishment, and will hopefully be completed during 2020.

Lovely, friendly, family run campsite we stayed for the first time during the Easter bank holiday with the grandkids, We were met by Paul who showed us to our pitch which was the serviced pitch no.1 on the camping field, great rural location with fantastic views. There was a new play park for the kids which they really enjoyed & a large fenced off dog run for exercising the dog. The whole weekend was very relaxing, the site was beautiful & all the staff & seasonal caravaners were very welcoming, we will definitely be returning
