General

  • Stay on a working farm site in Snowdonia National Park
  • Haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: lots of nearby trails
  • Less than half an hour’s drive from the Welsh coast beaches

You won’t want to hide among the bushes during your stay at Llwyn yr Helm Caravan Park, a family-friendly site on a working farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Dolgellau in Gwynedd – this place is all about getting out and about.

In the southern reaches of Snowdonia National Park, Llwyn yr Helm is a haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: Mawddach trail, Torrent Walk and Precipice Walk all start in Dolgellau, and Cadair Idris mountain’s Minfford Path starts less than 15 minutes from site. That’s the hikers sorted, so what about the bikers? Coed y Brenin Biking and Visitor Centre is 20 minutes away, and the fab Antur Stiniog downhill biking trails are within an hour.

If you’re not much of an outdoor adventurer, there’s plenty else nearby: try plane spotting at the famous Mach Loop, ziplining at Zip World Slate Caverns or poking around the scenic Italianate village of Portmeirion – or you could make a beeline to the beaches and harbours at Fairbourne or Barmouth, where boat trips and watersports abound?

Back on site, fire up the barbecue for dinner (essentials can be sorted in the on-site shop) then kick up your feet in the evening, soaking in the views of the Cadair Idris mountain range, reading, or watching a DVD borrowed from reception. If you’d prefer to venture out, there are plenty of restaurants to try within 25 minutes of the site.

Perfect site for hiking, walking, seeing the sights of South Snowdonia. Stunning views, level hardstanding pitches easy to manoeuvre on. The best shower block we have ever seen! Heated, family rooms which include toilet, sink, shower with mixer tap ( no pushing the button every 20 seconds) huge area to dry and dress. Spotlessly clean. Veru friendly staff/wardens and didn't mind that we asked to move pitch after 1 night due to being under a tree in the rain. Kids playground (didnt use it this time though.) 10 min drive from the Mach Loop car park.

    Disliked:

No 4g signal. Didnt bother us, but our 8yr old you tube junkie was a bit upset. He was occupied with all the walking and sight seeing.

we absolutely loved our 2 night stay at Llwyn yr Helm and only wish we had booked for longer! So quiet and peaceful, with the only sounds being either the birds or the spectacular RAF planes flying through the valleys. Amazing views across the mountains too. Paul and Maria were excellent hosts and so friendly, they couldnt do enough for us and are such a credit to the site! And the toilet/shower blocks was honestly one of the nicest i've ever been in - immaculately clean with great hot showers and nice and toasty warm in the block, we got caught in the rain one day so i went for a shower to warm up and could have quite happily stayed in there all day as i was so warm! We are already looking to book again for next year and can't wait to be back!

    Lovely location.
Pitch was level, tidy and well laid out.
Toilets and facilities were second to none, clean and well signed in this COVID era.
Nice sized family shower rooms. Spacious shower cubicles.
    Friendly team.
    Easy booking system.
Ideal location for Coed y Brenin Forest and Mountain bike centre.
We got a good 3/4g signal.
Local to Dolgellau (but not walkable as such) which has a couple of nice pubs and shops.
