Llwyn yr Helm Caravan Park: .

General

  • Stay on a working farm site in Snowdonia National Park
  • Haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: lots of nearby trails
  • Less than half an hour’s drive from the Welsh coast beaches

You won’t want to hide among the bushes during your stay at Llwyn yr Helm Caravan Park, a family-friendly site on a working farm less than 10 minutes’ drive from the market town of Dolgellau in Gwynedd – this place is all about getting out and about.

In the southern reaches of Snowdonia National Park, Llwyn yr Helm is a haven for ramblers, bikers and hikers: Mawddach trail, Torrent Walk and Precipice Walk all start in Dolgellau, and Cadair Idris mountain’s Minfford Path starts less than 15 minutes from site. That’s the hikers sorted, so what about the bikers? Coed y Brenin Biking and Visitor Centre is 20 minutes away, and the fab Antur Stiniog downhill biking trails are within an hour.

If you’re not much of an outdoor adventurer, there’s plenty else nearby: try plane spotting at the famous Mach Loop, ziplining at Zip World Slate Caverns or poking around the scenic Italianate village of Portmeirion – or you could make a beeline to the beaches and harbours at Fairbourne or Barmouth, where boat trips and watersports abound?

Back on site, fire up the barbecue for dinner (essentials can be sorted in the on-site shop) then kick up your feet in the evening, soaking in the views of the Cadair Idris mountain range, reading, or watching a DVD borrowed from reception. If you’d prefer to venture out, there are plenty of restaurants to try within 25 minutes of the site.

The facilities on site were clean and modern and some of the best we’ve used through our years of camping. The family shower rooms are a great addition with plenty of space.

Pitches are spacious for large set ups and we’ll set apart. There are clear gravel paths between pitches and facilities and plenty of space for vehicles.
Location of the site is well connected to major routes for travelling to local attractions.

    Disliked:

It was a shame the main toilets were closed part way through our stay.

One improvement could be the lighting around the sink area. During evening wash up the mood lighting of the building made visibility poor.

I want to say thank you to Maria and her husband. What a beautiful caravan park. We came here with the van and found it extremely easy to set up. Well kept grounds, beautiful little shop. VERY clean, spacious and well kept bathroom, sinks and showers. We were highly impressed with the level of detail in the grounds. We rented a fire pit, wood amd shmores pack and enjoyed the evening with the fire. Honestly, one of the most memorable stays. There are so many things to do in the area... walks, trails, parks... endless entertainment for any adventurer.
A real escape with all the luxuries of home.
Thank you so much. We will be back for sure! 🥰

EVERYTHING! Extremely helpful staff; we left our electric cable behind and they loaned us one and they also loaned a fitting for the tap so we could make use of the serviced pitch. The site was full as there was a mountain biking event on that weekend; there was no noise at all! The dog exercise area is fabulous. We were pitched behind the boundary hedge to the road and I think we heard about two cars all weekend. The shower block is INCREDIBLE! Its state of the art modern with i think three private wet rooms with shower, basin and loo. There are additional showers and loos too. The washing up area if you need it is also inside this building which is heated, beautifully clean and with tasteful music playing!

An excellent campsite, probably the best we have stayed at! A lovely welcome and the facilities were excellent. A lovely large pitch, with a kids park and football pitch nearby. The showers and toilet facilities are superb, by the far the best we have experienced on a campsite.

Budding angler looking for your fishing fix? Turn your boat to Cregennan lakes about 25 minutes from the site to cast a line – if nothing’s biting, there are scenic trails around the lake so it won’t be a wasted trip. Stay out in the open by joining the flock for a sheep trekking experience, also 25 minutes away, or dive below the earth’s surface and clamber into a boat at award-winning King Arthur’s Labyrinth.

For something a little more high culture, the Machynlleth modern art museum is half an hour from Llwyn yr Helm and is well worth a poke around.
