Electric grass pitch

  • Peaceful, fully serviced North Wales site on the edge of Snowdonia
  • A 10-minute drive to Caernarfon Castle; 20 to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry
  • Table tennis, skittles and pool on site, plus 20 acres to explore
With a magical setting overlooking Eryri (Snowdonia) hills, Rhyd y Galen is a peaceful caravan and camping park in rural North Wales. Fancy exploring the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), the beautiful North Wales coastline and the Isle of Anglesey? Then this is your place. For your ease, access to the grass camping pitches is via tarmac roads. Generous in size and fully serviced, they come with a whole host of facilities, from a spotless shower block, well lit at night for your convenience and complete with hair dryers to keep you looking your best, to a family-friendly baby-changing unit and a laundry. On hand are 20 acres of land for families (and any canine pals) wanting to be out walking, playing and exploring, and if the kids should get restless, keep them entertained with games of table tennis, table football, skittles or pool. If you need to stock up on groceries, there are several supermarkets in Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive), and if you fancy making a night of it in the town’s pubs and restaurants, ditch the car and jump in a local taxi.

Fully-serviced grass tent pitch

Liked We absolutely loved the whole experience.

It was our first time camping as a family and so happy we chose this site. We were at number 53 which was spacious, had a tap and electric socket and a picnic table. We loved how the pitches had bushes/tree's separating them to give you a bit of seclusion to other campers.

The wardens were lovely and friendly and you can tell they take great care of the camp. They luckily had some kindling, logs and firestarters for sale, as well as some little fire pits to hire which was brilliant!

There are two separate toilet/ shower blocks. 1 main one with a Ladies and Gent's and the other with two unisex toilets and a toilet/shower room. We went to both which were extremely clean and well maintained.

I was worried as our pitch didn't have car parking next to it..... but it was about 10 steps away from our tent so no complaints there.

All in all we had a lovely time, even with the rain the next day and would definitely stay here again 🥰 for more than one night too 🥰

It’s great to hear the fire pits and little touches helped make your stay special. Even with the rain, we’re so glad you had a great time – we’d love to welcome you back for a longer stay next time.

Fully-serviced grass tent pitch

Liked Nice clean site well looked after. We booked the fully serviced pitch which felt alot more private. The pitch next to us wasn't being used so they gave us the option of either one. It was very windy and I'm so glad we chose the fully serviced pitch as it offered quite a bit of protection with the trees and bushes. Little games area was a nice touch which my 11 year old loved. Thanks for a great stay. Free WiFi was great. Close to ceanarfon.

Disliked Couldn't park right next to tent. But was only a bout a 25 metre walk

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for sharing such lovely feedback! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the fully serviced pitch and that it offered the privacy and shelter you needed, especially on a windy day. It’s wonderful to hear your 11-year-old enjoyed the games area too – we love seeing children making the most of it.

We appreciate your note about parking. We keep cars away from these 5 secluded pitches to give quieter, more peaceful experience. Cars can be parked next to the tents on all the other pitches. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us, and we’d be delighted to welcome you back next time you’re visiting Caernarfon.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Clean and tidy; very well maintained. For those staying away from the main facilities block the shepherds hut style facilities provide easy to access alternatives which were generally available without issue. Well located near coastline and mountains of Snowdonia. Conveniences in Caernarfon a short drive away.

Disliked No major issues.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: hank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We’re so pleased you appreciated how clean and well-maintained the site is, and that the shepherd’s hut facilities were convenient for you. It’s lovely to hear you enjoyed our location too – being close to both the coast and Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) really does make exploring easy, with Caernarfon just down the road.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Good showers! Great views! Good location, good size pitches with electricity and water to them! Would go back

Disliked The rain - but I knew that when I booked Wales!
Pitch was on a slight hill, and no pub in walking distance

We can’t do much about the rain, but will put you on a level pitch for your next visit, when hopefully the sun will be shining.

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment. If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Eryri (Snowdonia). For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.
