  • Five-acre family-friendly site overlooking the vale of Llangollen
  • Five-minute drive to Llangollen town and 40 to Snowdonia National Park
  • Restaurant, bar and playground on site
Seeking a scenic setting close to the countryside for dawdles around Denbighshire…? Then set your sights on a stay at Abbey Grange Campsite, on a five-acre site in front of The Abbey Grange Hotel and overlooking the pretty Vale of Llangollen. Surrounded by fields and mountains, this park is half a mile from the well-known Horseshoe Pass and is a convenient base for exploring the immediate hilly surrounds or taking on treks in Snowdonia National Park (a 40-minute drive). Chances to climb, cycle, mountain bike, fish and golf are also around the local area – just ask on site for the lowdown. At the park, charging facilities are on hand for ensuring your GPS has enough batteries for when you’re out and about exploring the region, whether shopping in Llangollen, five minutes’ drive away, for food to bring back and grill up on the barbecue or ambling to the Cistercian Valley Crucis Abbey (less than a 10-minute walk). On your homecoming from hikes or other similarly energetic activities, hotel facilities such as the restaurant and bar are accessible for cosying up with a pint or a meal, and there's an outdoor play area to keep the kids busy. The site has male and female shower and toilet amenities, plus chemical disposal facilities.

What customers say

This site offers a good location with beautiful views and a short walk to Llangollen. Guests appreciated the spacious pitches, on-site pub, and children's play area. However, numerous reviews highlight significant concerns regarding the cleanliness and outdated state of toilet and shower facilities, with some experiencing issues with water supply. Several guests found the site to be expensive for the quality of amenities provided and noted noise from a nearby road and occasional un-enforced site rules.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Don't know what people expect really, yeah it's a little tired but you are camping not stopping at the Ritz. Field was clean and tidy toilets were clean if a little dated. Didn't get chance to eat in the pub but the beer was good. Short walk down into Llangollen which you can get onto the canal and do if needs be.

Disliked Nothing really if anything they could do with a sign or 2 as it took us 2 days to find the elsan point

Liked Decent location to Llangollen.

Disliked The site was scruffy and shabby. Shame because it could be something special but unfortunately I think it is too much for the current owners to achieve. £60 odd for 2 nights is outrageous. We only booked this one because our first choice was booked over easter. This site needs to be around £15 per night. The facilities are shocking and the area of camping is rough.

Liked Easy to book, friendly people in a good location.

Disliked Cramped pitch. Toilets have showers inside, not seperate so have to queue for the toilet if someone is taking a shower. Run down amenities.

Liked Nothing

Disliked Didn't stay we got to the campsite and both fields were full. Tents were too close together and there was no way we would of been comfortable. On the pictures of the site it looks a lot bigger than it is. Wouldn't recommend to anyone unless you like being packed in like sardines. Disappointed in the sign in the pub where you book in says no dogs allowed. I seriously don't understand why a dog friendly campsite would do this. On the subject of dogs we saw a lot of dogs off lead. Lastly the attitude of the lady booking everyone in when I told her we wouldn't be staying and why she shrugged her shoulders and said what did you expect it's the bank holiday weekend.

Liked The working farm just across the fence the cows came in everynight and out every morning was beautiful. Its pretty close to the town centre and lots to see and do.
The park onsite is pretty decent my daughters 6 and 10 loved it. The lady bringing out the food from the kitchen was the only nice and respectful staff member we came across the whole time.

Disliked If you want to have any hygiene at all i highly recomend you dont visit this site. Trying to have a shower was a nightmare the water trickles and on most ocassions it just stopped coming out. 4 showers on site so very busy with people trying there best to get clean its busy from 6:30am in the morning they do have a toilet in the shower cubicles which is good i went at 11pm at night and the showers seemed to work for 2 minuites then so if your up late grab it whilst you can if you ignore how dirty they are because they are NEVER clean ( we was their 3 days). The food on site is overpriced and horrible. The staff was rude and upon check in decided to have a secret conversation with their collegue about my booking less than a metre away from me and my friend which left us feeling uncomfortable. I had to contact the venue about an issue before we arrived and they didnt reply to any of my email for 4 weeks and didnt answer any of my calls when i didnt get through to them 30 minuites before arrival the women was so rude on the phone i couldnt believe it . There was rowdy families screaming in the field at 2am and after various reports to management (not by us) nothing was done diagraceful . The pitches we was given for my family and my friends family was disgusting overgrown full of animal poo broken plastic huge rocks and nettles we had to pitch further forward than usual and clean the pitch. We didnt see a single staff member tending pitches and cleaning at all our whole stay. You have to 5pounds for wifi and it is supposed to work for 4 devices but only 1 device works per code. We had to keep going back everyday to get a code was awful.

Liked Unfortunately nothing!

Disliked This was literally a field, and a very expensive one at that! Shower and toilet facilities were covered in cobwebs, dirty shower trays, the mop for cleaning the showers looked like it had been used outside. No toilet roll in the toilet!

The outside wash up facility was dirty, and potentially from other users, but the shelf under the washing up sink was dirty, so you couldn’t put anything down!

WiFi didn’t work on the camping field, you had to pay extra.

Checking in was awful, one lady had gone off to see another customer, which was fine but the lady I spoke to was rude and just left me stood there waiting until the other lady came back, who actually was lovely!

The man in The beaten up white van! Was something else, after pitching up a few us were asked to move our awnings, vans or tents back! Even though nothing was specified at check in and he was very rude!
He also shouted at some people to put out fires but let other people carry on…

I would not recommend this site or go back to this site unfortunately unless they had a massive upgrade.

Outside the pub were bench areas that were very run down as well as a park, this does not reflect the images on trip advisor!

This was also very expensive for what it was! The photos of the abbey imply you can see the abbey from the site! This is not true, this is a different site down the road that I wish I had booked!
