  • Quiet campsite with Eryri views 15 minutes’ drive from Betws-y-Coed
  • Adventure Parc Snowdonia and Zip World Llechwedd half an hour’s drive
  • Lakeside pitches behind a traditional pub with dining and a games room
Like the sound of holidaying under canvas with a backdrop of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) peaks? Haste ye to the Y Giler Arms, a traditional country inn just off the A5 (a former coaching route), for tucked behind the pub is a camping field overlooking a lake and edged by the meanders of the River Merddwr. For exercise junkies, this peaceful spot is close to the outdoor-sports hub of Betws-y-Coed (15 minutes’ drive). If you’d rather stay put and drift around on site, the pub opens every evening, where you can be sure of a warm Welsh welcome along with local real ales and home-cooked food served in the lakeside restaurant. Hot breakfasts are also available – just be sure to order yours from the bar the night before – and there are plenty of distractions if the kids get restless, from a darts board and pool table to a variety of board games for you to borrow. Any accompanying dogs are welcome in the public bar and games room, but must be kept on a lead and under close control at all times on the camping field, as it is surrounded by farmland with lots of grazing sheep. And finally, a few practicalities: the site comprises two acres of level pitches, with easy access for towing vehicles. Facilities include modern shower blocks (one with disabled access), a washing-up area, electric hook-ups and water points.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very quite little campsite, beautiful views of the sun set and sunrise! Staff friendly in the bar but we only went in to let them know we was here. (We prefer to be in our bivvy). Nice looking restaurant and stuff to do on site. Exceptionally nice all in one toilet facilities, drinking water was nice, it didnt taste of chemicals like other places ive visited. Fridge for campers food and washing up area ect. Nice area around the lake to walk the dog for the toilet. (Everyone picks up after dogs so its really clean!) car close to the camp field so not far to carry stuff. Our dog absolutely loved it here, he felt very safe and loved meeting the other campers. So much to visit near by, a lovely 10 mile road the B407 with a perfect sunset view point over the sea and moutains. Lots of rivers. Little shop just up the road and a londis and spar 13 min drive away. 45mins from the base of rhyd ddu track of snowdon! Which is beautiful! Bit scary at the top but amazing none the less! Very quiet track too. Less than an hour drive from porthmadog, nice quiet seaside town and less than an hour from llandudno with the beautiful marine drive for just £5.50. We had so much to do we woke up the day we was going to leave and booked another night.
Perfect place for people with anxiety who are not great with crowded places. Felt safe and i didnt feel like anything would be stolen although we did lock our stuff up just in case.
We visited around 6 waterfalls in 4 days too! All beautiful!
Will be returning!!

Oh and on a clear night you see so many stars! Ive seen stars this week i never knew existed thanks to the light pollution near cannock chase where we are from. Where here theres hardly any pollution and you see everything! Got some beautiful photos and beauitiful memories with my lovely partner and my gorgeous GSD.

Disliked: Said on here that theres fishing near by and a pool on site. The pool is lovely crystal clear but rather shallow. Searched the entire pool only to see 2 individual perch and nothing else. Asked in the pub they said no fish in there so was a bit disappointed i brought all my gear. The river on site had some dace in it but i was after something of a bit of size. I did see something jump in the lake but i could see the bottom with my glasses and i searched every nuck and cranny on that lake lol and only saw too perch so that disturbance could have just been something small. Definitely nothing of any size in there. Potentially more perch but i didn't bother trying for them. Im not complaining i had a great holiday im just putting this to save anyone else hauling more gear than what is needed for the holiday. Although theres a good carp fishery near by. So i got use out the gear. The conwy river was a bit dead too. Found a few small fish but nothing decent. (I visited in febuary when its cold so expected).

Toilets are lovely but being a shower room too i was bursting for a shite while they were both in use and they seemed to be in there so long lol so could do with a couple of single toilets aswell.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This campsite had lovely scenery and lots of space. The toilets and showers were clean and spacious. The bar onsite was great addition and the food was tasty. On the Saturday of our trip the bar was very busy and staff worked so hard to make sure everyone was catered to, remaining professional and polite whilst under a lot of pressure.
Our whole group was really impressed and will definitely stay at this campsite again.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: We had a lovely stay, the lake was gorgeous and there was lots of space on the campsite to pitch our tents. The toilets and showers were clean and right next to the campsite. The staff were very friendly and helpful even when they were rushed off their feet in the pub, which we really appreciated, thank you!

Disliked: Only improvement would be a kettle in the kitchen room!
