  • Quiet campsite with Eryri views 15 minutes’ drive from Betws-y-Coed
  • Zip World Llechwedd half an hour’s drive; 40 minutes to Conwy Castle
  • Lakeside pitches behind a traditional pub with dining and a games room
Like the sound of holidaying under canvas with a backdrop of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) peaks? Haste ye to the Y Giler Arms, a traditional country inn just off the A5 (a former coaching route), for tucked behind the pub is a camping field overlooking a lake and edged by the meanders of the River Merddwr. Activity junkies will be pleased to hear this peaceful spot is close to the outdoor-sports hub of Betws-y-Coed (15 minutes’ drive). Even better, the pub on site opens every evening for your post-adventure downtime – you'll get a warm Welsh welcome along with local real ales and home-cooked food served in the lakeside restaurant. Hot breakfasts are also available – just be sure to order yours from the bar the night before – and there are plenty of distractions if the kids get restless, from a darts board and pool table to a variety of board games for you to borrow. Any accompanying dogs are welcome in the public bar and games room, but must be kept on a lead and under close control at all times on the camping field, as it is surrounded by farmland with lots of grazing sheep. And finally, a few practicalities: the site comprises two acres of level pitches, with easy access for towing vehicles. Facilities include modern shower blocks (one with disabled access), a washing-up area, electric hook-ups and water points.

What customers say

Great location near Snowdonia, with a popular pub serving good, affordable food. Facilities are usually clean & modern, staff friendly. Peak times can mean limited toilets/showers; pitches may be soggy in wet weather, and noise is occasionally an issue.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The best part about the campsite was that it had availability for a bank holiday weekend at short notice.

Disliked The toilets were dirty , showers too . To be honest for £30 / night I expect more than dirty toilets and showers and a field to park in.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Beautiful site and great location, pub on site (delicious meals and desserts) good size pitches, relaxed feel, microwave available for use, powerful showers, accommodating and helpful hosts (replied to queries), option to hire fire pit and supplies (reasonably priced), fresh eggs available to buy (honesty box)

Disliked combined toilet/showers. Floor always wet and muddy and toilet paper damp from condensation (but always in good supply). Cleaned regularly but unavoidable dirt due to wet room (shower) and people constantly in/out for the toilet. Separate toilets in another block very close by so that was an option. The shower itself was lovely and powerful but the floor was muddy and wet (no dry area) which made changing difficult. There was a bench and clothing rail for use but the bench got wet so needed drying before use. I would advise taking an extra towel to wipe the bench off then stand on then problem solved (I didnt take enough towels to do this unfortunately)
