  • Friendly site on a farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • Just over a mile's walk to pubs in Talybont-on-Usk
  • Meet the farm animals on site; bicycle hire nearby in the village
Bed down in the Brecon Beacons National Park – and have yourself a slice of proper Powys farm life while you’re at it too. Set on Bryn Hill, with views of the Black Mountains, Coity Bach is a welcoming and friendly rural site on a farm just over a mile from the pretty little village of Talybont-on-Usk. This is a prime area for walkers. The Beacons Way trail can be accessed directly from the farm, and if you're up for climbing the national park's highest mountain, it's a 30-minute drive to the main car park for Pen y Fan (alternatively, on foot from the farm, the summit is a four- or five-hour round-trip hike). There's also excellent terrain for cycling around these parts: hire a bike in the village if needed. Budding farmhands can get stuck into various tasks on site, helping out with the goats and horses, while those in search of more relaxing times can simply settle down in a serene setting for idle hours on site. Either way, it’s worth staying awake until after dark if you can: there’s some great stargazing to be done here, and barbecues and campfires are both allowed to keep you warm while you do just that. As for sprucing yourself up too, communal amenities on site include showers, toilets, a washing-up area with double sinks, a laundry area and a drying room. There are also charging and recycling facilities. If you are indeed planning a barbecue or firepit, both can be hired at the farm; wood is for sale, too, alongside meat, eggs and honey. To eat out, four pubs are within a mile and a half at Talybont-on-Usk. And for bigger towns, the farm is a 15-minute drive from Brecon, 20 minutes from Crickhowell, half an hour from Abergavenny and 35 minutes from Hay-on-Wye.

What customers say

This site boasts an amazing location with breathtaking mountain views, popular for walking and cycling breaks. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, and the unique experience of interacting with roaming farm animals. While many found the basic facilities adequate for a short stay, some reviews highlight issues with cleanliness, lighting, and occasional water supply problems, particularly during busy periods. The steep access track is also a recurring point.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked I arrived at 1900, long after reception closed, but still recieved a welcome from the owner, working the long day that farmers do. The grass tent field was large, green and pleasant. Along with tents, there was a gypsy style caravan and recent benches and tables. For me, I appreciated the sights of a working farm and was treated to a huge black newfoundland dog, 2 cats, chockens, sheep and an early morning peacock! Basic functional bathroom block with adequate solar lighting and a warm shower without meter. Some other reviewers have commented on a bumpy road - if they meant the one up to the farm it is no worse than the one outside my house in Bristol! If they meant the one to the tent field it has been resurfaced.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great host Cari and family. Stunning views on the mountains. Very clean and tidy . We pitched up bank holiday and we enjoyed our time.
Very quiet and we all slept well. We had space for two large family tents which was nice.
Large fire pit area . And easily accessible footpaths to any of the Brecons peaks .

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us, glad enjoyed your time at Coity Bach and you enjoyed The Brecon Beacons to the peaks from the farm. HOPE to see you again over the summer thank you Ceri and all the team

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked I was met and welcomed at the site . The site is basically a field but equipped with seating areas (4). There are functioning toilets. I booked rhw log fire, but due to owners not being present, this was not forthcoming (awaiting rebate of £12 paid).

I was there for one night and the location and views were perfect. No ambient light so the views of the night sky were mesmerising. So quiet and peaceful.

If you want luxury, maybe this land for tentage is not for you, but if you are not a glamper, it’s a great stopover or a great central base for walking around the Brecon Beacons.

Disliked Toilet cabin was a little tatty, but fully functional.

From the manager: Thank you for staying and enjoying the great views of The Black Mountain Range from Coity Bach, hopefully you will return when I can greet you personally. thank you Ceri

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Amazing location, beautiful views, friendly people. Lovely and quiet, incredible location for a cycling week-end away. Fantastic weather helped.

Disliked Glad there was the option to park the car by the barn and carry things up, the steep track had become tricky to get up in a vehicle. This was likely due to the drought though, as there were also some delays on water as the dedicated team were almost constantly having to drive up the hill to top up the spring.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying at Coity Bach with us, You & future guests will be glad to hear the road to the camping field is now tarmac well into the field, so no issue to get cars, camper vans and trailer tents into the field. The farm as also added 2 new holding tanks for there spring water so hopefully we will not have water delays even if we have no rain for over 17 weeks as during your stay. Hope to see you again in the summer of 2026 Ceri & Team

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Before we began our stay, the owner contacted us to say that they recognised we were part of a larger group and would try and get us all on one pitch - which they did. It was a great pitch, complete with a shelter and picnic table.

We enjoyed the relaxed nature of the site, the views and the friendliness of the staff. It was a great place base ourselves.

The site was clean and tidy.

Disliked Nothing

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The views were breath taking, well worth the steep hill climb to camp. The owners were very welcoming, with many optional extras such as BBQ to hire and wood supply which was a great help. Plenty of toilets and good washing up facilities, we chose the busy weekend (bank holiday) so the washing area was busy, but normally would be ok. No wifi, but we still had signal at the top of the hill.

Disliked As a new camper facilities seemed basic, but ok for the couple of days camping we did - so I wouldn't suggest for first time campers

From the manager: Thank you for enjoying our breath taking views! no steep hill to climb now tarmac to enjoy and a new double sink washing up area at the field gate. thank you for choosing to stay at Coity Bach farm & hope you return, cheers Ceri & Team

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The views are amazing. When shower had water it was nice and warm.

Disliked Awful toilets and shower. Shower doesn't have a light so pitch black when the door is closed. On our first night there wasn't any water at all so we couldn't wash our hands, shower, wash dishes or even flush the toilet. Majority of pitches are not on flat ground so very uncomfortable.
Very steep hill to get to the camping area, high chance or damage to cars. If the ground is wet I imagine it wouldnt be accessible.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for staying with us, tarmac now well into the field, 50 flat pitches. Yes, sorry about the drought we had no rain for 17 weeks, so for 2026 we have installed 2 extra new spring water tanks so we can get through a drought if need be in the future. thank you for staying at our farm Ceri & Team

Local attractions

Being in the Brecon Beacons, this is naturally excellent hillwalking territory – you can head straight out onto paths directly from the farm, or ask your hosts for tips on local routes, including the Taff Trail, Henry Vaughan walk and Usk Valley Walk. If you’re trying to tick off a mountain or two, make a beeline for Pen y Fan (30 minutes' drive) or the Sugar Loaf (35 minutes) For a bigger variety of alfresco activities, head to Llangorse Lake (20 minutes) for rock climbing, watersports and horse riding outings. Closer by, Cantref Adventure Farm (15 minutes) has riding lessons and horseback treks, plus all sorts of family antics including crazy golf, tractor rides and Europe’s longest sledge ride (oh, and pig racing…) The natural scenery around here is spectacular, of course – and the towns are pretty too. Crickhowell (20 minutes), Abergavenny (half an hour) and bookshop-filled Hay-on-Wye (35 minutes) are all worth a wander.
