Teifi Meadows: Visitor image of the camping pitches

General

  • Secluded site bordered by woodland and a stream
  • Wildlife country in the midst of the Ceredigion countryside
  • Three miles from Lampeter and seven from the Dolaucothi Gold Mines

Everyone, even the cynical, should have a little romance in their lives. Especially if it includes a scenic setting with easy access to local pubs (a holiday extra that thaws the icy hearts of the cynical even more than blazing sunsets).

Teifi Meadows should warm the battery of your camera as well as the cockles of your heart: this is wildlife country – look out for red kites overhead – in the midst of the greenery of the Ceredigion countryside, and close to the walks, dolphin spotting and beaches of the Ceredigion coast and Cardigan Bay.

National Trust sites, River Teifi fishing and canoeing, mountain pony trekking, Roman gold mines and blooming great gardens are in the area too: ask your hosts Jane and Julian for their top sightseeing tips.

For supper supplies to sort alfresco eats and stargazing, the village of Llanfair Clydogau is about a mile away and has a well-stocked licensed shop as well as a post office selling rod licences if you’re plotting to fish on the Teifi.

Lampeter, about three miles away, has plenty of food shops, independent stores and a farmers’ market, and the pub at Cellan, also three miles away, serves food and Sunday lunches. Sunday pub lunches are romantic too…

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Loved how rural it is and how friendly the family that own it is. It also has homemade ice cream which is a lovely touch.
It was so nice in the evenings as everyone was quiet which was lovely with small children.

    Disliked:

The shower block could do with a bit of tlc and unfortunately one family at the end of the stay was loud until the early hours.

We spent a few days in Bothy Hut, which is located in a secret garden at the turn of August and September 2022. We relaxed wonderfully surrounded by greenery which ensured discretion and intimacy in silence, away from the hustle and bustle. We know few places where we sleep as well as here. The field kitchen is a great idea, so we prepared all meals in this kitchen and spent evenings by the fire. A 10-minute drive to Lampeter, where you can do shopping, also has its advantages, and a 30-minute drive to the ocean (Celtic Sea) is a big advantage. Great location and we will definitely be back.

Firstly I don't know why a previous review was so negetive. If you want 5 star facilities stay in a hotel. Your camping.
If people wiped there feet before entering then the grass wouldn't get tracked in.

The showers are in a wooden building which has shall we say has matured.
There's one loo and two showers with loo. Plus two showers the other side.

There's a welcome hut just passed the play area. There's a board inside with your pitch number.
If you have free choice where to pitch, it's worth noting that the top pitches don't get the sun first thing in the morning.
Pitches are numbered and of a good size.
Lampeter is 3 miles away but there is a shop mile in the other direction.
    Very friendly Collies on site.

    Disliked:

Pitches do slope a bit. Vans may need levelling ramps.
Looking at the photos the site looks bigger than it is.
Grass getting tracked into showers (people not cleaning shoes) not sites fault.

Very friendly owners with a good sized field and pitch layout which meant everyone had a good amount of space and privacy.
They owners also have very cute and friendly dogs who ran around the field and were friendly to play with.

    Disliked:

Facilities were dirty, mouldy and always wet! Going to the extent of buying our own toilet paper because it was wet/damp. Toilets were smelly and always dirty with poo and wee always on the toilets. Showers were mouldy and always covered in hair/ mud. It was like they were never cleaned!
Other campers blasted party music until 12 at night and nothing was said about it.

Great site, friendly atmosphere, close by to other great little villages and towns.
Toilets and shower facilities was close by and regualry stocked up of toilet roll, hand towels. Washing up area great little touch. Never got to try the homemade ice cream on site but heard they was amazing. Owners leave you to it but when we did meet them they was lovely. Was great waking up one morning to sheep grazing a few meters away. Free log burners to use which was great and could purchase logs from owners. We had the best time and didnt want to come home. My two children who are never far from there devices spent majority of the time there playing with other kids on the park or the great greenary that all pitches surround. Even my pre teen sat with us around the fire playing cards in the evening. Great bonding time. Felt the kids was safe there at all times. Looking forward to next time.

    Disliked:

Signal wasn't great so to try and look at maps to go somewhere we did have to venture out but was a good excuse to look for a quaint cafe for breakfast.

Local attractions

Everyone, even the unimaginative, will find something to do in Ceredigion and the Teifi Meadows surroundings, although the choice of what’s on offer may overwhelm dithery types…

Historians of old should start off at the National Trust’s Dolaucothi Gold Mines, less than seven miles away, the only Roman mines discovered so far in Britain and a deeply groovy place for underground tours.

Also from the National Trust, 12th-century Dinefwr Castle and its 18th-century landscaped park lies high on a hill above the River Tywi near Llandeilo; and Llanerchaeron house, estate and walled gardens gives a glimpse into how the Welsh gentry lived.

The Trust manages a couple of beaches hereabouts, magnificent Mwnt, regarded as one of the best hidden beaches in Europe, and Penbryn, which James Bond fans might recognise from scenes in Die Another Day. Both are on the Ceredigion Coast Path, so don your boots for romantic walks: it’s 11.7 miles to Cardigan from Mwnt, and a much more strollable 1.7 miles from Penbryn to Llangrannog.

The colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron is a 6.5-mile walk from New Quay and a day in both is thoroughly recommended: Aberaeron for another spectacular beach, and New Quay for dolphin-spotting boat trips, day-long fishing trips and the only bee farm in Wales. Further along the coast in Aberystwyth, take the Vale of Rheidol Railway up to the smashing falls of Devil's Bridge.
