  • Quiet Mid Wales coastal campsite overlooking spectacular Cardigan Bay
  • Walking distance to Mwnt Beach; Castell Henllys half an hour’s drive
  • Family site with a play park, animals to meet and a well-stocked shop
With sweeping views over Cardigan Bay – home of a well-known dolphin pod – peaceful, family-run Blaenwaun Caravan Park is set on an organic beef and arable farm 15 minutes’ drive north of Cardigan in Mid Wales. This quiet spot overlooks the gorgeous National Trust-owned Mwnt Beach, which can be reached via a bridleway from the site. This coastal caravan park is a great base for the whole family; there’s a fantastic play area on the edge of the camping field (so parents can keep an eye on their offspring from the pitches), and there’s masses of room for ball games, kite flying or riding bikes. As if that’s not enough, youngsters can feed pot-bellied pigs, Jemima the goat and Pippi the pony, while pet ducks have a free run of the place. Access the Ceredigion Coast Path from the site (bring any dogs with you for seaside walkies), and give alfresco cooking on the barbecue a go too. There’s a well-stocked shop on site, selling fresh bread, milk, free-range eggs and farm-produced organic beef, as well as branded gifts and camping essentials. To make life even easier, electric hook-ups are available, and you can use the basic kitchen equipment (microwave, kettle, fridge and toaster) in the laundry room. The facilities block has a disabled shower room and baby-changing facility too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Pitches were spacious and very well maintained. We received a warm welcome on arrival. The site is not too big so perfect for allowing our young children free rein to explore the animals and the lovely park. Showers were hot and clean. Separate toilet and shower facilities for disabled visitors and those with younger children. Absolutely gorgeous sunsets and ‘dark skies’ in the evening. WiFi was great and free to use.

Disliked: Shop could have been a little better stocked but this is a small issue as there is an Aldi and a Tesco just a short drive away.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Everything! Incredibly friendly owner - offered to try and find us a spare windbreak. Clean and tidy site, very clean facilities and stunning views over the fields to the sea. Easy access to Wales coastal path and in driving distance from some towns.

Disliked: Nothing!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: It’s a really chilled out campsite with a great playground in the middle for the kids to all play on. You can see the sea and some goat stroll around every now and then. You walk to the beach via a bridle way or the road, it is a bit of hill so young kids (4 year olds) were fine in the walk down but it was piggy back on way home. We took the van and parked at the NT car park following day. Felt welcome with the dog.

Disliked: Showers weren’t the greatest - no cubicle area for dressing and they were cold air temperature wise but really hot water wise. Too hot for the kids. Discovered the disabled shower on the last day which had a baby change and you could control the temperature.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Welcoming owners who went above and beyond to help when I had an issue with my tent. We were put up in a caravan for the night, I've never been so grateful. Thank you so very much.
The children loved the park and I loved that it was viewable from my pitch. Communal areas were clean and the added on site shop open for a couple of hours was a nice bonus.
Unfortunately my daughter fell unwell and the high winds at night meant we left earlier than expected but still enjoyed our stay.

Mwnt beach is close by and definitely worth a visit, the shop and cafe was great xx

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean facilities, gorgeous views, friendly reception, beautiful beach within walking distance (20 mins), quiet at night. Everything you'd need for a relaxing short stay break.

Disliked: It was really lovely but I think it may be too quiet for longer than a long weekend for us. There's a shop on site for basics, but if you need anything more then closest shop is a 10-15 min drive. Not pubs within walking distance. Nothing with the site, just preference for what you're looking for.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The area was lovely, a new looking play park which the kids loved and the shower pressure in the family/disabled room was amazing (we didn't use the showers in the standard toilets to comment)
Friendly owners and they had pigs/cows and horses nearby to see. The nearby beach was lovely with a cafe at the top.
Perfect spot on the campsite to view the sunset!
We had bad weather which unfortunately nearly broke our tent, the wind got to 45+mph which was changing throughout the day/night and it was getting too dangerous for us to be in our tent. Luckily we were able to upgrade to an available caravan for the rest of the holiday and the owners were very accommodating and helpful.
The day we arrived we had some sun and the second from last day some sun but unfortunately the weather was just constant rain and strong winds- definitely was April showers weather!

Disliked: - weather was really bad (not the owner's fault!!)

Local attractions

Cardigan Bay is home to a myriad of marine wildlife. Migrating dolphins can often be seen offshore, and there are numerous boat trips departing St Dogmaels (15 minutes’ drive) to view harbour porpoises, Atlantic grey seals and the resident pod of bottled-nosed dolphins. Sporty types will fit right in here too. Golfers can make a beeline for the 18-hole championship course at Gwbert (10 minutes), and there are three other courses within about 20 minutes’ drive. Sailing aficionados can hire boats in Gwbert, and riders explore the countryside on horseback from the local equestrian centre (20 minutes). For a change of pace, learn about local history with a visit to the Benedictine monastery ruins in St Dogmaels, or have a nose around the mighty towers and ramparts of 13th-century Cilgerran Castle (20 minutes). Travel back in time to Castell Henllys (half an hour), a carefully reconstructed Iron Age settlement, and take a walk up to the prehistoric burial monument at Pentre lfan (half an hour).
