Morfa Bychan Holiday Park: Dog-friendly walks from the park

General

  • Clifftop site with stunning sea views out towards Cardigan Bay
  • Under 15 minutes' drive from Aberystwyth
  • Outdoor heated pool, playground and social room

What a beaut. And it's an award-winner too: carve out as much time as you can to stay at Morfa Bychan Holiday Park, on a Ceredigion clifftop overlooking stunning Cardigan Bay.

As you'll see from the pics, spectacular sea views are all around here, so you can be basking among these Welsh coast views as soon as you arrive (barbecues are allowed for those who prefer to bask among coastal views while their other half preps the alfresco eats). Beach access is a cinch too, as famed seaside resort of Aberystwyth is within six miles, and the park has direct access to its own pebble beach for shore walks, fishing, boating, rockpooling and surfing.

There's loads of room for kids to run around on the park and on the beach; should they inexplicably tire of this, take them along to Morfa's pirate ship play area to swashbuckle and swing. The heated outdoor summer pool and spacious grassy area alongside are other popular family spots, as is the Social Room space with board and computer games, TV, pool tables and air hockey.

The friendly team are on hand to help with whatever you might need, whether it's assistance in getting set up when you arrive or sharing their tips on the (many) top places to make for in the region. There's a stack of tourist info at the site reception to aid your decision-making further and give you something to read while your other half sorts out the coffee…

This site is a member of Hillandale Caravans group.

Please note

Reception is unmanned after 6 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

A cable measuring at least 20 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

If you come with a motorhome, please specify if you have a continental unit, i.e., the door on the opposite side so that the site team can allocate the correct pitch.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
Our washrooms we know have seen better days, they are functional as washrooms but do require a complete overall, lots more expense !!
Not too sure about the loud music you experienced?? was this a passing customer arriving/departing or a passing fishing boat?? ( we have had some issues with a lobster boat playing rave music at 6am )

Friendly staff, great onsite catering van and excellent dog walking. Very well kept and clean site with beautiful vistas of The Irish sea. Will be the best weekend in UK if Sunny as it is very well presented but...

    Disliked:

The road in is single laned and if you get an oncoming aggressive farmer. Which we did you have to reverse and reverse and reverse. The site us at the mercy of the UK weather if its windy don't go as the site is very exposed. And especially if you are camping, we witnessed a family putting all of thier pegs on the windy side just to stop their tent taking off.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, so glad our park met all your expectations but the review only reflects the road in and out and the typical British weather which unfortunately is out of our hands.
The tent in question packed up early due to the weather but we transferred their holiday to another date in the future so as not to lose their booking.
All of our park descriptions and google maps clearly show access lanes and the descriptions of arrival times and departure times to help but outside forces are completely out of our control.

From the manager...

Thank you, so glad our park has met your expectations.
We find that being tucked away is the perfect get away holiday park, lots of maps and google information is out there so that customers are then able to research before booking so thank you for reminding potential new customers to do such before assuming we are in a town.

Lovely spot. Could have had a bit more privacy per caravan.
There is a swimming pool which is good for families, but I chose not to try it.
    Clean facilities.
Helpful staff but not very knowledgable of area etc.
Saw Peregrines on the cliff and choughs on another cliff. Fabulous sunsets across the sea.

    Disliked:

Possibly an upgrade on facilities, not enough washing only compartments, Only one which was for families.
A bit tricky to get to, take second road in. Could have had a sign to say where to go for caravans.
Think the staff and the literature could have been more useful for area knowledge.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are glad that our facilities and park met your needs and expectations.
The instructions are posted with your booking, the map is included as well as post code to enable all travellers to google or programme their sat nav to find us.
We have a large roadside sign which is a good indication of where we are to be found, there is a brown national road sign which indicates where tents can access and then another on the roadside which indicated where caravans can access, not too sure if we could get any more signs on the roadside.
There is ample leaflets and maps in the games lounge for our customers to read and take away with them, there is also a fabulous visitor centre in all of the towns on the coast.
As the managers have been on the park for just over 15 years if they were asked for information they pretty much know where to direct you as with all the staff know to who to point you to for anything they do not know about.

We loved the girls Sophie and Louise. They met us at reception with great big smiles and helped us pitch the caravan on the sloping grass pitch. Their cheery friendly nature and un deniable skill in taking care of the grounds and the people on it made our stay.
We loved the pool (nice and warm)
    We loved the amazing views
We loved the walk to Aberystwyth
We loved being able to catch BIG Bass right off the beach.
We actually liked that the site is slightly difficult to reach

We love to read that our customers have made the most of our surroundings and appreciate as we do being so out of the way you can more or less forget about the outside world for a while.
Those sea bass are amazing, not sure if you set up your barbecue on the beach but we find that is the best way to eat the fish straight out of the sea and then barbecued.......

Directions

When coming from the Midlands stay on the A44 all the way into Aberystwyth. Ignore the satnav trying to direct you through Devil's Bridge (narrow lanes).

When travelling from Aberystwyth, follow A487 direction Towing. In a large vehicle, ignore the satnav until you drive through the village of Blaenplwyf then take the well-signposted lane to the park. Light vehicles can use the first turning.

Local attractions

The Wales Coast Path runs through the park and is easily accessible via kissing gates. The path runs for a whopping 870 miles from Chepstow in the south to Queensferry in the north: potter the few miles to Aberystwyth and then – for the energetic – hike further for 10 miles on the linked Ceredigion Coast Path to its finishing point at Ynyslas.

Aberystwyth, 15 minutes' drive away, has stacks to do in and out of peak season, including a harbour to wander around, the National Library of Wales and the Aberystwyth Arts Centre for indoor days, and a buzzing nightlife with pubs, gigs and eateries aplenty. The same distance in the other direction will land you at Llanrhystud, a popular spot in summer for beaches, watersports and fishing.

Nature spotting and birdwatching are easily accessed in the area too, either under your own steam or via a dolphin and seal safari trip around Cardigan Bay. Ensure your marine mammal sightings – recommended if you possess fractious offspring – with a trip to the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre at New Quay; boat trips can be booked from here too.
