General

  • Pretty setting in an old walled garden; quiet and sheltered
  • Modern facilities block with big shower cubicles
  • On-site shop, play area for children, dog exercise area

Just under five miles from Stirling and close to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park lies Blair Drummond Caravan Park, a site in splendidly scenic surrounds and in a biking, walking and birdwatching haven among quiet country roads and tracks. (It's less than an hour to both Edinburgh and Glasgow too.)

It's splendidly scenic on site too: Blair Drummond is a handsomely landscaped park with pitches set in a walled garden, sheltered by mature trees and a range of brightly flowered shrubs.

It has a modern shower and loo block with large shower cubicles and laundry facilities, a shop selling daily essentials and a children's play area. As of 2016, the owners have upgraded to speedy internet for customers' use and have added a barbecue shelter with a gas barbecue.

The park is dog-friendly and a dog walk is nearby.

A lot of noise from the road and other campers/caravanners late into the night.
A lot of noise from the local houses during the day. Made it feel like you were camping in a housing estate rather than the countryside.

Superb layout with plenty of choices of where to pitch. Perfectly clean toilet block and the visiting mobile chippy van on a Friday evening was fabulous - delivered to your caravan door. What more could you ask for? 😁

All in all, a fab break for 6 nights with plenty to do and see in the surrounding area.

Stayed here on my very first trip in my motorhome back in 2013 and have been coming back ever since. The staff are always very welcoming. I particularly like the walled garden and the tracks through the woods. And on this visit, the fish and chip van came on the Friday - the best chips I have ever had!

    Clean and quiet spot

    Disliked:

A lack of facilities. Notably no laundry or kitchen facilities, although the bathrooms were good and clean as well. Nowhere to hang wet gear (in Scotland where it is wet a lot, if you are camping you can bet you have wet gear! We had wet sleeping bags in the morning).

There seemed to be a concrete slab under the grass where the tent pitches are and it was almost impossible to get tent pegs in the ground, we had to put them on a serious angle.

Did not find staff contact via email friendly at all but short and very brief as if they did not care at all whether we stayed there or not.

Signage finding the campsite was hard to see and situated inside the driveway so you had to assume you were going in the right driveway before you could even see the sign, it took us a but of driving up and down to find the place.

The wifi arrangements were hideous. Expensive and pay on Paypal only - how can you do that when there's absolutely no service? Also assumes everyone has Paypal. They must be kidding. This is seriously poor form.

Fantastic spot - Location right near the river and loch for a lovely walk. Only 15mins drive into the centre of Stirling. 45mins drive to Edinburgh Park & Ride. Only about 8-10 tent pitches available which was lovely as they felt very personal, and with plenty of space to have the car near by. The benefit of this being a caravan site meant that there was not a queue for the showers or toilets often, or indeed the washing up. These facilities were all spacious and extremely well tended too. Fantastic site, so glad I found this gem, will definitely be returning!

Local attractions

Set pretty much in the centre of Scotland, Blair Drummond Caravan Park is in a stellar setting to explore some of the country's best-known places to see and things to do of all flavours.

Blair Drummond Safari Park, Loch Katrine, steam ship Sir Walter Scott, and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park are all within a few miles, as is Stirling Castle, Doune Castle and the medieval Old Town of Stirling.

Glasgow is about 45 minutes' drive away and is a smashing city for sightseeing that can be often overlooked by visitors who race only to capital Edinburgh. Have a gander at the events of the West End including the city's many festivals, the million or so books of the Mitchell Library and, if feeling quite cultured, evenings at the Scottish Opera or Scottish Ballet.

Edinburgh, about an hour's drive away, is also most excellent: among the many city picks are Edinburgh Castle, the National Storytelling Centre and the National Museum of Scotland, while Silverknowes Beach is on the fringe of the city for sandy days out.

Must see

  • Stirling Castle (4.9 miles)
  • National Wallace Monument (5.1 miles)
  • Royal Burgh of Stirling Visitor Centre (5.5 miles)
