Liked Park was clean and tidy and the amenities were closed to the pitch.

Disliked The fishing lake hadn't been stocked making it pointless to take out a permit.

Liked The park is clean, the staff are really friendly and helpful. we have stayed here before with our touring caravan but opted to camp this time in the tent pitch area. Loads of walks to go on, we didn't use the entertainment of pool this time. We did eat at the restaurant and it was lovely

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked In lovely countryside
Near Dunbar

Disliked Grass pitch was more like sandy hard standing that looked scruffy and weedy- was messy after rain
Other users of the touring area using washing machines on their pitches, having the hose connected to the drinking water points preventing our use of them. Their washing machines emptying onto their pitches and the hedgerow. Other members of their party wheeling noisy trolleys of laundry around all day and late evening. Washing machine on at midnight, spinning loudly- keeping us awake.
Also these other users driving around site in their vans with ladders on top, day and night, down to the toilet block (for which it was unnecessary to drive as it was very close by and these were young people).
Children of these users urinating on their pitch rather than walking to the toilet. They also walked across our pitch, under our wind out awning, rather than walking round.
They also brought a trailer full of rubbish back each evening and parked it on their pitches, right next to someone else’s caravan.
These users were not rude but they were not on holiday and were not treating the site as a holiday site. It spoiled the atmosphere on site.
We did ask to move but we were informed that as we had booked through pitchup we were stuck with the pitch that we had been given- in the middle of these users.
It’s a shame as this could be a lovely site, with a bit more tidying up of the pitches and the area around the toilet block, if these people were not misusing a holiday site.

From the manager: We're pleased to hear you enjoyed our countryside location near Dunbar, but we're very sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations.

We sincerely apologise for the issues you experienced with the condition of your pitch and the behaviour of other guests during your visit. The situations you described are not the atmosphere we want to create for our holiday guests, and we understand how disruptive this must have been.

We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. We are reviewing the condition of our grass pitches and the surrounding areas to ensure they are maintained to a higher standard. We are also reinforcing our site rules regarding the appropriate use of facilities, vehicle movements, and consideration for fellow guests to help prevent similar issues in the future.

We're sorry that we were unable to accommodate your request to move pitches. While bookings made through third-party agents can sometimes have limitations, we always aim to help where possible, and we regret that we couldn't find a better solution on this occasion.

Thank you again for your honest feedback. It highlights areas where we can improve, and we hope you'll consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with the peaceful and enjoyable stay we're known for.

Liked We had a super amazing first camping experience with 4 years old kid.
Definitely recommended and we'd like to come back again.
The view is nice and the camping site is clean.

Disliked The reception sign was not very clear on our first visit. It would be great if you could add an arrow sign of reception at the entrance.

Local attractions

You won’t find yourselves thirsting for action at Thurston Manor; there are lots of inspiring places to visit in East Lothian, Berwickshire and beyond. Peer at the puffins and gawk at the gannets at the Scottish Seabird Centre - you can zoom in on the nesting colonies on the islands (including Bass Rock, home to a gobsmacking 150,000 gannets) using the Centre’s interactive live cameras, or zoom off on a boat trip to see them in the flesh/feathers, along with grey seals and dolphins if you’re lucky. For more fresh air fun, there are clifftop walks, castle ruins, picnicking and pony trekking across the grassland, woods and salt marshes at John Muir Country Park in nearby Dunbar. Or you could go for a clamber around Tantallon Castle, a majestic fourteenth century stronghold in a photogenic location atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth and Bass Rock. Not to mention the magnificent golf courses, fishing, horse riding, yachting and water sports in the surrounding area. Whisky lovers will definitely want to make a pilgrimage to the nearby Glenkinchie Distillery, which has an excellent visitor centre and guided tours as well as tastings (and a discount in the shop is included in the very reasonable entrance fee). Last but not least, the brilliant and bonny city of Edinburgh is only 25 miles away.....
