  • Peaceful Highlands holiday park five minutes’ walk from Invermoriston
  • Loch Ness 20 minutes’ walk and Urquhart Castle 20 minutes’ drive
  • Access to the Great Glen Way and Loch Ness 360° Trail from the site
When you’re after some serious downtime in bracing Scottish air, Forest Glen Holiday Park has a splendid Highlands getaway in store. This peaceful holiday park for adults (which here means anyone aged 12 or over) has mountain views and easy access to forest walks as well as the long-distance Great Glen Way and the Loch Ness 360° multi-use trail. Backed by forested hills, the motorhome pitches are part of a family-run holiday park and peacefully set above a series of waterfalls on the River Moriston in gorgeous Glenmoriston. It’s pet-friendly too, meaning your canines won’t have to miss out on any alfresco adventures either. Forest Glen Holiday Park may be in a peaceful spot, but it’s in a handy spot too, as the village of Invermoriston is five minutes’ walk away, with its pub, café and community shop. There are more eateries in Drumnadrochit (20 minutes), and supermarkets in Fort Augustus (10 minutes). Please note, the pitches are for self-contained motorhomes only, as there are not currently any toilet or shower facilities for the touring pitches.

Non-electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Really peaceful site, friendly reception staff and easy walking distance to Invermoriston and the falls. Had lovely meal at Glenmoriston Arms and also tried the coffee shop.

Disliked: There are no toilet facilities here so you have to be self contained. There are however very good toilet facilities by the car park in the village

Liked: Beautiful site with good access roads and water in easy reach. Clean grounds and well presented and very accommodating hosts. Close to amenities. WC down the road as there are no toilets on site. Add WC and would be ideal. 5 stars for what it has.

Local attractions

If you’re keen to get a glimpse of Nessie, stroll down to Loch Ness along the River Moriston (20 minutes’ walk); you’ll pass waterfalls and a stone bridge reportedly built by Thomas Telford along the way. If the elusive monster doesn’t put in an appearance, you can learn more about him in interactive exhibitions at The Loch Ness Centre (25 minutes’ drive). Head for Fort Augustus (10 minutes) at the southern end of the loch for scenic cruises over the waters, and linger awhile in this pretty town bisected by the Caledonian Canal. There are waterside walks along a section of the Great Glen Way and a choice of shops selling tartan souvenirs. Tour the rugged ruins of Urquhart Castle (20 minutes), standing above the loch and site of much former fighting between the Scots and the English, or pay your respects to the dead at Culloden Battlefield (an hour). If history’s not for you, take the binoculars and see if you can spot dolphins in the Moray Firth (around an hour); they come inshore to feed on the tide.
