General

  • Peaceful family-run park next to the Spean river in Roybridge
  • 20 minutes' drive from the outdoor activities hub of Fort William
  • A short walk from a train station, two pubs, shop and café

Folks who fancy a few days of fresh-air frolics, hotfoot it up to Bunroy Caravan and Camping Park – as you may guess from its location on the banks of the Spean river and its glimpses of the mountains of the Nevis Range beyond, this peaceful nine-acre site is quite the spot for a good many outdoorsy antics.

Fort William (a place that’s developed a rep as the ‘outdoor capital of the UK’) is a 20-minute drive from here, or you can get here easily on a fresh-air-friendly train to Roy Bridge station, a leisurely five-minute saunter from the site. A café and small shop are also within easy trotting distance, and it’s just a short amble to a couple of pubs for pies and pints.

All around here are heaps of Highland activities: get your pulse going with days of hiking, mountain biking, canyoning, climbing, kayaking and the like, or keep things a bit more serene by taking in the gorgeous views from a cable car ride, a train trip or a wildlife-spotting cruise.

Facilities on site have been kept low-key to preserve that placid rural vibe, but all the essentials are in place: among them a fast wifi connection, gadget-charging point and fridge/freezer for your post-hike snacks. Guests returning damp and mucky from their antics will no doubt be chuffed to see free hot showers, a launderette and a drying room.

The site was excellent very clean and tidy. Located in view of Ben Nevis and it's impressive mountain range. The site has a beautiful flowing clean river which was lovely to swim in. The toilets and shower facilities were well maintained and very clean, always fully stocked with toilet rolls. The site owners were lovely and greeted us with a warm friendly atmosphere helping us to our pitch. Would highly recommend this site for anyone looking to stay in the Scottish Highlands.

The site owner was very commited to keeping the place clean, and was jolly doing it.

    Disliked:

Could possibly do with an extra shower or two. That being said, we stayed during the Fort William UCI DH race, so maybe the site was just extra busy.

Fantastic place to stay & friendly. Owners are very helpful and kind. We had a race weekend at fort William having travelled from Manchester. The facilities were fantastic. Perfectly Clean. Always hot water. Somewhere to dry wet clothes, fridge/freezer for food. Quiet. Beautiful scenery. Relaxing. Plenty of space.

    Disliked:

It isn’t a dislike but an area with a kettle and microwave would be an added bonus.

Local attractions

All manner of alfresco activities are within easy reach of Bunroy. Bring your walking boots for excellent hikes taking in mountain vistas and waterfalls in Glen Spean and the Nevis Range, both of which are around 20 minutes away by car, or a little further away around Glen Coe.

There are some fab mountain bike trails are here too, and local outdoor centres can sort you out with all sorts of other activities including canyoning, whitewater rafting and paragliding. For something a little more relaxing, there’s a golf course 10 minutes’ drive away or you can bring your kit to fish on the Spean river next to the site.

If you fancy slowing the pace a little bit, take a seal-spotting boat trip from Fort William or bag a seat on the Jacobite Steam Train to cross the Glenfinnan Viaduct (which may look rather familiar to fans of the Harry Potter films).

Must see

  • Nevis Range Cable Cars (9.6 miles)
  • Ben Nevis Distillery (9.7 miles)
  • Treasures of the Earth (11.4 miles)
