  • Family-run touring park five minutes’ walk west of Fort Augustus
  • Loch Ness five minutes’ walk and the Great Glen Way 10 minutes
  • Hardstanding pitches for stopovers; pubs and shops five minutes’ walk
If you’re looking for a handy overnighter in the vicinity of Loch Ness, the location of Loch Ness Caravan Park takes some beating in terms of convenience. This welcoming and family-run touring park is alongside the A82, just outside the lively waterside village of Fort Augustus. Currently operating as a stopover for motorhomes and self-contained caravans, the park offers level hardstanding pitches with optional electric hook-ups, charging facilities and disposal points. It’s set on former farmland adjacent to the owners’ working croft, so from time to time you may see Highland cows grazing in the field next to the park. It’s a family-friendly five minutes’ stroll into Fort Augustus, where you can explore the shores of Loch Ness (10 minutes’ walk) and exercise any four-legged companions along the Caledonian Canal towpath. There are pubs and cafés in the village, and a supermarket where you can pick up barbecue goodies to grill and eat back at your pitch.

Liked Couldn’t of wanted a more clean, beautiful scenery and friendly place to stay had what you needed and a bonus the Newley built park for our child to play on in the evening with the local children facilities brilliant didn't have any issues with signal literally round the corner form the beginning of lock ness and local business’s owners absolutely lovely and friendly to chat with stayed for 2 nights instead of 1 and will definitely stay again. Only a 1 on WiFi because it didn’t have it but never struggled with signal or anything.

Local attractions

The famed Great Glen Way (10 minutes’ walk) runs through Fort Augustus, and from there you can follow sections of it along the Caledonian Canal, or get high into the surrounding glens for hikes through pine forest up to waterfalls like Allt na Criche (45 minutes). As well as giving access to Great Glen Way rambles, Fort Augustus (five minutes) is home to the flight of five locks built by engineer Thomas Telford in the 1820s to unite the Caledonian Canal with Loch Ness. It’s also a departure point for boat cruises along the loch, during which you can look for Nessie. You can carry on your search for the elusive monster at The Loch Ness Centre (35 minutes’ drive), and then get down to some serious history at Urquhart Castle (half an hour), scene of centuries of battle and today a peaceful ruin overlooking Loch Ness. Heading north you'll hit Inverness (an hour) for tours of the castle and the tropical glasshouse at Inverness Botanic Gardens.
