General

  • Family-run Moray farm site in a Speyside woodland setting
  • Beaches, forest walks, golf course and Malt Whisky Trail all nearby
  • Woodland trails and kitchen on site; firepits for hire

Have a quiet relaxing time or a more adventurous holiday…The Loft in Moray is suitable for all tastes.

Active sorts have plenty to keep them busy nearby, including whitewater rafting, sailing and surfing over at the coast, exploring the countryside by bike or taking a tour of the region's numerous whisky distilleries. For more chilled times, hire a firepit for lazy hours in the evening, or spend days out exploring walking trails that run around The Loft's grounds and the surrounding countryside.

Amenities at this secluded wilderness site are in a converted Nissen shed, which houses a kitchen, showers, toilets (including accessible facilities) and a baby changing area. Hot water and cold drinking water is available here too, and there are more facilities up at the main reception building if required.

Local shops, pubs and amenities are five miles away in Forres, and Elgin is within 15 minutes' drive. Beaches, forest trails and a golf course are all within a few minutes' drive as well, as is the Malt Whisky Trail for those in search of top tipples.

Lovely pitches amongst the trees, dark sky at night, fire pit glow!20/09/2021

We had ample space for our medium sized tent in amonst lots of beautiful small trees. As the site was fairly quiet we were given a choice of pitches. Remote check in was easy and the welcome pack very informative. The campsite was pretty dark, which was a lovely escape from light pollution (need a torch!) so it felt more light wild camping with the luxury of the car close by. The toilet block/shower was only a short walk away and there's a small kitchen with an electric hob (useful if the gaz runs out), a freezer for ice blocks and a couple of USB points for phone/battery recharging.
The nearest pub is Kinloss, not handy to walk to, but an easy bike ride and there are lovely pubs in Findhorn. The site is also right on the Route 1 cycleway so it's a lovely cycle to Roseisle forest and beach or great for a cycle/camp trip of the Moray coast.
Grigor and Victoria were really helpful, friendly and fun to chat to. Thanks for a lovely stay!

    Disliked:

It was a little muddly but then we've had an exceptionally dry summer, outwith anyone's control. A few hooks next to the wash hand basins might be useful!

Cramped site and not value for money.

From the manager...

I dispute this review, not because the customer thought that it was not value for money, that is their perogative, but because they thought the site was cramped. In the "open" season we have less than 10 pitches per acre on our camp site, or in other terms, an average of 400m2 per pitch

How the customer could consider a pitch that is 11m wide and 13m deep with views over the fields on two sides , trees to one side and only be adjoined by one other pitch on the other, (occupied by a 2m x 2m tent at the time) to be "cramped" makes me wonder what they want from camping.

Pitch 42 is one of our most popular pitches. It is large, sheltered from the elements but large enough to always get the sunshine (when it is out, :) ) . One of the most popular reasons why people like our site is that everyone has their own space, generally boundaried by trees or bushes.

It may be that this was what gave the customer the feeling that they, in their small campervan, felt cramped. Fortunately there are plenty of other open and windy sites out there that they can go and park their Van in where they will not feel cramped.....

I would like to that the customer though, because it has given me this opertunity to tell everyone how nice Pitch 42 is...

A toilet closer to the pitches would be beneficial especially for at night time with it being so dark.

Local attractions

Stage your own mock battles at Culloden; the battlefield and a modern visitor centre are half an hour’s drive away. History buffs will also find plenty of castles and moody standing stones to clamber around.

Moray’s mild climate and low average rainfall mean there’s a good chance of making the most of the fabulous golf courses, sailing, sandy beaches, forest trails and awesome mountains – you can even take to the slopes during the ski season.

Amber nectar aficionados will also be interested in making the rounds of the renowned whisky distilleries nearby: everyone’s heard of Glenmorangie, Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, all easily doable from the site, but with half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries located in the Speyside area of Moray, there’s no shortage of options, including two beauties close by in Forres. If you don't know where to start, or want to get a comprehensive overview, hit the Malt Whisky Trail for a planned route around producers large and small.

Must see

  • Glenfiddich Distillery (19.3 miles)
  • The Glenlivet Distillery Visitor Centre (21.4 miles)
  • Speyside Heather Centre (24.3 miles)
