General

  • Family-run Moray farm site in a Speyside woodland setting
  • Beaches, forest walks, golf course and Malt Whisky Trail all nearby
  • Woodland trails, kitchen and firepit on site

Have a quiet relaxing time or a more adventurous holiday…The Loft in Moray is suitable for all tastes.

Active sorts have plenty to keep them busy nearby, including whitewater rafting, sailing and surfing over at the coast, exploring the countryside by bike or taking a tour of the region's numerous whisky distilleries. For more chilled times, have lazy hours in the evening by the firepit, or spend days out exploring walking trails that run around The Loft's grounds and the surrounding countryside.

Amenities at this secluded wilderness site are in a converted Nissen shed, which houses a kitchen, showers, toilets (including accessible facilities) and a baby changing area. Hot water and cold drinking water is available here too, and there are more facilities up at the main reception building if required.

Local shops, pubs and amenities are five miles away in Forres, and Elgin is within 15 minutes' drive. Beaches, forest trails and a golf course are all within a few minutes' drive as well, as is the Malt Whisky Trail for those in search of top tipples.

Lovely pitch among the trees. Nice clean shower block and kitchen. Space to walk or run the dogs. Good location for visiting local attractions. Friendly receptionist. It was so good we booked an extra night.

Covid-19 restrictions meant that some facilities were not available. This did not detract from our holiday at all.

Lovely site with comfy wigwams & spotlessly clean facilities26/10/2020

  • Liked:

These wigwams are great, plenty of space for two adults, 3 teenage boys & a cocker spaniel! They're cosy & comfy & have a kettle & a toaster, so with a hot drink & toast (& marmite!), what more do you need? They also have a small fridge to keep your beer cold & you can rent a firepit (slightly expensive, but worth it for the good quality firewood & fire starter pack). The "bothy" kitchen was spotlessly clean, with a big range cooker & plenty of hot water. The toilets were kept clean. It was VERY wet when we were there, but we still kept warm & dry & had a great time. Our dog loved it too! We will definitely go back - there's loads to explore in the area - lots of lovely beaches, seaside towns, distilleries. The takeaway pizza from the Clocktower in Kinloss is recommended too. We went up to Cromarty on the Black Isle, which was beautiful & atmospheric in the mist (despite the oil rigs!). Great ice cream there too.

    Disliked:

the weather, but you kind of expect that in Scotland in October.......at least there were no midgies about!

Local attractions

Stage your own mock battles at Culloden; the battlefield and a modern visitor centre are half an hour’s drive away. History buffs will also find plenty of castles and moody standing stones to clamber around.

Moray’s mild climate and low average rainfall mean there’s a good chance of making the most of the fabulous golf courses, sailing, sandy beaches, forest trails and awesome mountains – you can even take to the slopes during the ski season.

Amber nectar aficionados will also be interested in making the rounds of the renowned whisky distilleries nearby: everyone’s heard of Glenmorangie, Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, all easily doable from the site, but with half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries located in the Speyside area of Moray, there’s no shortage of options, including two beauties close by in Forres. If you don't know where to start, or want to get a comprehensive overview, hit the Malt Whisky Trail for a planned route around producers large and small.

Must see

  • Glenfiddich Distillery (19.3 miles)
  • The Glenlivet Distillery Visitor Centre (21.4 miles)
  • Speyside Heather Centre (24.3 miles)
