  • Family beachfront park with a huge range of facilities for all ages
  • Kids' and teens' clubs, bowling and adventure playground with zipwire
  • Pool, crazy golf, amusements, bar lounge, shop and restaurant
Cor, you'll wish your Grannie’s home was as cool as this: slap bang on the beachfront, with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, tennis courts and Costa coffee on tap… Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park sits beside the powdery white sands of Embo beach near the historic town of Dornoch, in prime position for a romp around the Scottish Highlands. If you’re bringing the family, rest assured that the chances of the little ones getting bored are slim to none. Aside from the pool- and beach-based shenanigans, there’s mini ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, an amusement arcade, kids’ clubs featuring the Starland Krew, plus a great adventure playground with a zipwire, swings and slides. Older children and teens can get stuck into making their own animated movies or hit the decks at a DJ workshop in the Freestyle club. Grownups, meanwhile, will likely appreciate the smashing views across the Dornoch Firth – bottlenose dolphins and seals are regularly seen frolicking in the foam – plus the extensive facilities, which include a bar lounge and restaurant, evening entertainment, shop, launderette and more. Grannie would definitely approve…

Liked Some staff were friendly, breakfast was nice. Nice location, have stayed before and had a lovely time. Only stayed one night this time. Toilets and showers were clean.

Disliked Forgot to bring my drink over, the dinner was brought out at different times, others had nearly finished, before they brought the others out and then one of them was wrong. Staff not so friendly this evening.

Liked Food in restaurant was good.

Disliked 1-People in caravan next to us emptying the rubbish out of there car and throwing it on the ground to blow about the site! Went to reception to report it but nothing was done about it.
2-No hot water in taps or showers in toilet block, the shower was just a dribble, sinks were running empty.
3-Female member of staff behind the bar was very abrupt.
4-Need grey waste disposal area.
5-Toilet blocks need to be cleaner.

Liked Seaside location

Disliked Not for me. Facilities few and far between and distinctly tired.
No views but a field of vans.
As sole traveller didn't utilise club facilities,so can't comment.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely site, great park for the kids. Camping toilets blocks were clean - in fact every time we went in there was an attendant cleaning/restocking etc. Wonderful location - Dornoch was beautiful and fantastic places to eat/drink. Would definitely return. very reasonably priced (£36 for 2 nights tent with electric hook up). Staff were wonderful - kind and helpful even though they were busy.

Disliked No campers kitchen which would have been great - even if it had a basic selection of things (kettle/fridge/freezer). Only one toilet block for campers and tourers and this was quite a distance from the camping pitches. Drinks prices on site were a bit steep and not much in the way of local produce. Toilets in entertainment area were not so great. I realise much of the park is static/holiday home but would be great to provide further amenities for campers. We would visit a lot more often!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Easy location to find. Evening entertainment and inside access if required. Somewhere to go if it’s wet and horrible outside. Fine for a quick stop off but I would not want to be here more than one night. There are activities for children.

Disliked Facilities. Showers and toilets are old and need updating. Two showers is not enough. If felt grubby. Worst camp site we’ve stayed on for our nc500 trip. Guess you get that you pay for. Not really suitable for tent box either. Far too exposed where we were located even though we stayed we would be in one. We arrived after reception closed which we were told was fine to do. Two members of staff then had no idea how to help us and looked at us quite blankly. Luckily security came over and was helpful.

Local attractions

Dornoch, the pretty little town nearest to Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park, has a range of small independent shops, a cathedral dating back to 1224 and one of the best championship golf courses in the world. Otherwise, if you fancy a day trip, there’s a decent variety of things to do nearby. For a fairytale castle with a French flavour, take a tour of Dunrobin Castle, which stages falconry displays twice daily in its beautiful grounds; Black Isle Wildlife Park has child-pleasing meerkats, lemurs and zebras; whisky lovers can wet their whistle at the Glenmorangie Distillery; and the spectacular waterfalls at Falls of Shin are one of the best places in Scotland to see salmon feats of derring-do as the fish leap upstream between May and September, or to go geocaching, walking and cycling along the forest trails. If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, it’s an easy drive to classic destinations such as John O’Groats, Loch Ness and Ullapool.
