  • Family beachfront park with a huge range of facilities for all ages
  • Kids' and teens' clubs, bowling and adventure playground with zipwire
  • Pool, crazy golf, amusements, bar lounge, shop and restaurant
Cor, you'll wish your Grannie’s home was as cool as this: slap bang on the beachfront, with an indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, tennis courts and Costa coffee on tap… Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park sits beside the powdery white sands of Embo beach near the historic town of Dornoch, in prime position for a romp around the Scottish Highlands. If you’re bringing the family, rest assured that the chances of the little ones getting bored are slim to none. Aside from the pool- and beach-based shenanigans, there’s mini ten-pin bowling, crazy golf, an amusement arcade, kids’ clubs featuring the Starland Krew, plus a great adventure playground with a zipwire, swings and slides. Older children and teens can get stuck into making their own animated movies or hit the decks at a DJ workshop in the Freestyle club. Grownups, meanwhile, will likely appreciate the smashing views across the Dornoch Firth – bottlenose dolphins and seals are regularly seen frolicking in the foam – plus the extensive facilities, which include a bar lounge and restaurant, evening entertainment, shop, launderette and more. Grannie would definitely approve…

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Was a lovely site with very friendly staff. A stones throw from the beach. Lots of available bins and water points. A very tasty breakfast - and great price when buying for 2.

Disliked: Showers were push button, so while warm and a good flow rate, had to keep pressing. There were no mats or any form of dirt/ mud catching at the door of the toilet/ shower block so any slight wetness outside (in Scotland so often) and the toilets and showers quickly got quite wet and muddy. Biggest frustration was there were lots of touring pitches available but everyone was put on the same few close together.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The view of the beach was absolutely awesome and the restaurant was good value and options were good

Disliked: The toilet, bathroom facilities were central in the park and seemed to be closer to the people who needed them least . As I booked an non electric tent pitch I was put 6mins away from them . This made it impossible to use them in a case of I need to piss before I piss myself situation .. and there were no portable toilets at the none electric area to use instead

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely site with loads to do. Indoor pool very clean. Shower and toilet block cleaned hourly. Helpful and friendly staff. Amazing pub with amazing food next to reception. Club was friendly with entertainment for all ages. Loved the laundrette being on site as it was so handy for us. Amazing views of the beach which was only minutes away from our tent. The kids loved the football pitch and the large park with lots to do for them. The young lad in the arcade (ginger as he called himself) was lovely and could not do enough to help and was very approachable and easy to talk to. Bingo at 7pm in the club was entertaining but please don't breath to loud or you will be told to be quite haha witch me and the husband found amusing with young children one with ADHD.

Disliked: The male Chinese life guard was horrendous, his attitude towards everyone including children is shocking to the point my husband had to walk away before flattering him as he spoke to myself my kids and husband like dirt on his shoe all because my husband wanted to help getting swimming googled for our son. The male life guard also treats other staff members like this too. We put a complaint in at reception and was told he would not be in the pool area when we was. The amount of spiders outside the toilet block as I'm scared of them. Kids complained about the WiFi as its alot slower than they are use too. The arcade on site not alot worked and not alot left to do kids got board quickly in there and most things was rewarded with tickets but need over 1000 to get anything nice. Got told we could not take our Belgium malinois as she was to big to get there and see othere people with the dog. Got told couldn't take our 10 man tent as it was to big to set our 6 man tent up and the following day seen people with bigger tents than our 10 man tent next to us this was really frustrating.

Local attractions

Dornoch, the pretty little town nearest to Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park, has a range of small independent shops, a cathedral dating back to 1224 and one of the best championship golf courses in the world. Otherwise, if you fancy a day trip, there’s a decent variety of things to do nearby. For a fairytale castle with a French flavour, take a tour of Dunrobin Castle, which stages falconry displays twice daily in its beautiful grounds; Black Isle Wildlife Park has child-pleasing meerkats, lemurs and zebras; whisky lovers can wet their whistle at the Glenmorangie Distillery; and the spectacular waterfalls at Falls of Shin are one of the best places in Scotland to see salmon feats of derring-do as the fish leap upstream between May and September, or to go geocaching, walking and cycling along the forest trails. If you don’t mind travelling a bit further, it’s an easy drive to classic destinations such as John O’Groats, Loch Ness and Ullapool.
