  • Berwickshire caravan park in the grounds of 18th-century Paxton House
  • A 10-minute drive to Berwick-upon-Tweed beaches, ruins and boat trips
  • Woodland walks, adventure playground, Tweed river trips from the site
Want to see how the other half lives? Pack a bag and park yourself in the walled garden at Paxton House Caravan Park. This Berwickshire pile was built in the Palladian style in 1763 for a nobleman who planned to live in it, then inherited a castle and moved there instead. Staying in this small park on the 80 acres of grounds, visitors can take in this popular landmark at their leisure, with river walks and boat trips down the Tweed and/or by delving into the history of the house and its collections of art and furniture. The kids can let off steam on the adventure playground and follow woodland trails to discover wildlife and maybe encounter a fairy or two. For practical things like pubs and grub and shops, as well as sandy beaches, estuary walks, ruins, sea safaris and fishing trips, Berwick-upon-Tweed is a brilliantly convenient 10 minutes' drive away.

What customers say

This peaceful, sheltered site in a historic walled garden offers spacious pitches and beautiful grounds to explore. Guests praise the tranquil atmosphere, numerous walks, and nearby village pub. While facilities are basic and can be busy, they are generally clean. Some note issues with maintenance and noise during events, but many plan to return due to the location and relaxing environment.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful site in a great easy location just off A1. The lady the checked us in was so nice and helpful. Great walks for the dogs although the riverside path is closed due to tree felling just now but plenty of other walks. Great sized level gravel pitches. Drive over grey waste, elsan point and recycling. Fresh water in several areas around the site. We didn’t actually use the shower or bathroom during our visit but it was all nice and clean. Local pub a short walk from site. Children’s play area in the grounds of Paxton House. Good 5G signal

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Good site. Great walk along the river from the site leading to a wee community pub in Horncliffe, defo worth a visit for a drink. Also within ten minutes walk the other way from the site is the Cross Inn in Paxton with really good food for dinner and cosy atmosphere. Possibly could be a busy site in Summer, lovely for a March weekend with only five or so vans. Would recommend this site 😊

Disliked Nice early arrival time, though that means departure time is also quite early!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Nicely set out site with woodland walks available.

Disliked The floor in the shower room I used was filthy & there was no toilet paper. It was obvious it hadn't been cleaned for some time, it wasn't just one days dirt as there were only 3 other couples staying on site the night we stayed so it hadn't got that dirty that quickly. Also, the shower wasn't very hot. I was told the other shower room door lock didn't work. Price for a pitch has increased again.

From the manager: We are sorry that you found our Toilet and Shower facilities below standard. We advertise that we do not have toilet or shower facilities on site and the price reflects this (we have only increased our pitch fees by £1 per night from 2025 prices despite a large increase in energy and waste collection prices). This is not an excuse for the cleanliness being below par. We will review our cleaning schedule and ensure that this is addressed immediately

Excellent!

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Was pleased to see pirch 14 was vacant as that is our favorite pitch. Some to a lovely lady regarding our extra night on the Monday due to the road repairs

Disliked The Hugh stones protecting the grass verge as could not be seen as we turned the corner. Resulting in damage to caravan. Also the very large potholes at the entrance but these were repaired during our stay.

Local attractions

History is never far away in these parts, and the glimpses you’ll get of Lindisfarne, half an hour's drive away, will doubtless lure you out during your stay. Wild and peaceful, the ruins of the priory and the castle point to the long and turbulent human past of the place, while the colonies of puffins and waders carry on regardless. Check tide times if heading out by car; boat trips to and around make a leisurely way to visit with seal and puffin spotting possibilities en route. There are many more castles to peruse, if that’s your penchant: Bamburgh, still occupied but open to visitors, is half an hour’s drive away. Despite being 700 years old, Alnwick (45 minutes) is also still home to the descendants of its original owners and a must-see for JK Rowling fans as the film location for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The little villages of Beadnell and Seahouses (45 minutes away) form the gateway to the Northumbria Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a sea-hugging zone stuffed with chances to go rockpooling and paddleboarding, plus coastal paths and bike trails as well as a haven for wildflowers and (yes, really) wild cattle. Half an hour’s drive gets you to the edge of Northumbria National Park, packed with Roman remains, climbing in the Cheviot Hills and paths around Kielder Water. Further afield, the museums, culture, lively pubs and (of course) the castle of Edinburgh are very doable for a day trip, an hour and 20 minutes away.
