General

  • Family park close to a sandy Ayrshire beach
  • Nearby access to Glasgow and Ayr by railway adjacent to the site
  • Indoor pool, sports activities, restaurant, games room and playground

The residents of Saltcoats, a historic harbour town on the west coast of Scotland, used to spend the night in 'salt cots', hence the place’s name. Luckily, these days there are better facilities for a sojourn close to the town’s handsome beach, such as Sandylands Holiday Park in Ayrshire.

Guests can swim, splash and snorkel their way around the indoor pool or get stuck into some of the organised sports activities on site, and there are also kids’ clubs for children up to 11, featuring the usual Park Resorts group characters, Sparky the rabbit and friends.

In the evenings, the Buccaneers Showbar runs theme nights, competitions and family shows, with live bands and cabarets regularly making an appearance to get toes tapping. For easy access to the surrounding area, a railway line runs adjacent to the holiday park – very nifty for visiting Glasgow, Ayr, Largs and beyond.

This site is a member of Parkdean Resorts group.

A budget campsite providing great entertainment for young kids 03/08/2017

The Starlands Krew were excellent at entertaining the kids and made my young daughter feel very special on her birthday. The kids also enjoyed the pool and of course, every kids favourite, the amusement arcade.
The site staff were very friendly and a big thank you to one of the delivery drivers who took time out to help move our large caravan onto its pitch.
We enjoyed our stay at Sandylands and would go again.

    Disliked:

    Terrible push button showers
    Flooded toilet cubicle
Large white boulders that made it extremely difficult to reverse our caravan onto its pitch
    Expensive alcohol in bar
Litter blown from overloaded waste bins
    Pitches on a slope
    No free Wi-Fi on site
Not much entertainment laid on for young teenagers (13 and 14yrs)

Close to ferry port to Arran

    Disliked:

Everything! Litter, tiny pitches, toilets were grubby, rubbish dump next to loo block, graffiti, next to train line. Other holiday makers arguing and effing and Geoffing at 1am, dogs attacking each other, drunk adults making loads of noise near loo block at midnight, extremely noisy families - kids screaming, blowing car horns, parents screaming at kids.

    Nothing.

The bathrooms were dirty. The sites are right on top of each other. It's 10 feet from a rail line that runs all night. There was trash all around. The photos they use are well posed, and don't represent the place at all. We stayed in 4 different campsites through the week, this was by far the worst. My wife had to take our kids away from the playground as fights were breaking out with the older children there. The pitches are a patch of grass in a sea of permanent holiday homes.

Local attractions

The landscapes in this part of Ayrshire are stunning, so it’s no surprise that some of the country’s most famed championship golf courses, including Prestwick, Royal Troon and Turnberry, can be found in the area.

As the birthplace of Robert Burns, Ayrshire is also rich in cultural attractions and museums relating to Scotland’s national poet.

It’s easy to hop aboard the nearby ferry at Ardrossan for a day trip across the Firth of Clyde to Arran - the journey usually takes less than an hour and passengers regularly see dolphins during the crossing.

Arran has miles of beautiful forest and coastal walks, more great golf courses, and attractions such as Brodick Castle and the Arran Heritage Museum to explore.

The railway line that passes Sandylands Holiday Park also runs a limited service to the likes of Glasgow and Ayr, should visitors fancy exploring the area by train.

Must see

  • Scottish Maritime Museum (3.9 miles)
  • Burns National Heritage Park (15.1 miles)
  • Culzean Castle & Country Park (19.3 miles)
