  • Family park close to a sandy Ayrshire beach
  • Nearby access to Glasgow and Ayr by railway adjacent to the site
  • Indoor pool, sports activities, restaurant, games room and playground
The residents of Saltcoats, a historic harbour town on the west coast of Scotland, used to spend the night in 'salt cots', hence the place’s name. Luckily, these days there are better facilities for a sojourn close to the town’s handsome beach, such as Ayrshire's Sandylands Holiday Park. Guests can swim, splash and snorkel their way around the indoor pool or get stuck into some of the organised sports activities on site, and there are also kids’ clubs for children up to 11, featuring the usual Parkdean Resorts group characters of the Starland Krew. In the evenings, the Buccaneers Showbar runs theme nights, competitions and family shows, with live bands and cabarets regularly making an appearance to get toes tapping. For easy access to the surrounding area, a railway line runs adjacent to the holiday park – very nifty for visiting Glasgow, Ayr, Largs and beyond.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Most of the staff were Friendly until a point when we complained Good spacious pitch and great facilities for food and drink

Disliked: We were in the restaurant on the Saturday evening and confirmed with the waitress the times for serving food which we were told nine to nine On Sunday evening we rushed back to the restaurant and arrived at 20.50 so we quickly decided what we wanted and approached the bar to be told sorry we have stopped serving chef has went home early. But to are surprise they were still serving other guests deserts at 21.05. The shower block could be serviced more regular.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Fish and chips OK Staff cleaning area of toilets/showers were 'trying' to keep them clean.

Disliked: Litter around many of the pitches. (Other occupants of area seemed not to care…) Men's urinals leaking and smelly (buckets under both) One shower cubicle littered with clothes left behind and dirty, other cubicle door didn't close/seal properly. Site next to meat processing factory not particularly impressive. Access to beach not easy.. bridge closed/inaccessible.

Local attractions

The landscapes in this part of Ayrshire are stunning, so it’s no surprise that some of the country’s most famed championship golf courses, including Prestwick, Royal Troon and Turnberry, can be found in the area. As the birthplace of Robert Burns, Ayrshire is also rich in cultural attractions and museums relating to Scotland’s national poet. It’s easy to hop aboard the nearby ferry at Ardrossan for a day trip across the Firth of Clyde to Arran – the journey usually takes less than an hour and passengers regularly see dolphins during the crossing. Arran has miles of beautiful forest and coastal walks, more great golf courses, and attractions such as Brodick Castle and the Arran Heritage Museum to explore. The railway line that passes Sandylands Holiday Park also runs a limited service to the likes of Glasgow and Ayr, should visitors fancy exploring the area by train.
