The play area

General

  • Family park close to a sandy Ayrshire beach
  • Nearby access to Glasgow and Ayr by railway adjacent to the site
  • Indoor pool, sports activities, restaurant, games room and playground

The residents of Saltcoats, a historic harbour town on the west coast of Scotland, used to spend the night in 'salt cots', hence the place’s name. Luckily, these days there are better facilities for a sojourn close to the town’s handsome beach, such as Ayrshire's Sandylands Holiday Park.

Guests can swim, splash and snorkel their way around the indoor pool or get stuck into some of the organised sports activities on site, and there are also kids’ clubs for children up to 11, featuring the usual Park Resorts group characters of the Starland Krew.

In the evenings, the Buccaneers Showbar runs theme nights, competitions and family shows, with live bands and cabarets regularly making an appearance to get toes tapping. For easy access to the surrounding area, a railway line runs adjacent to the holiday park – very nifty for visiting Glasgow, Ayr, Largs and beyond.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Single-sex parties of three or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

Swimming pool access is included: please show your Entertainment pass.

Entertainment passes are included in the rate.

Hard to park caravan as touring pitches so tight, practically on top of each other vans, motorhomes and then tents inbetween.also got a visit from some drunken young guy wanting to come in and use our toilet! Site is not very tourer friendly which is unfortunate as facilities and park is a nice place. The road into park is VERY tight as people park all the way along road and the main drag in park is mega tight when pulling a tourer 😢

**NOTHING** Do not stay here on a touring pitch. We were allocated pitch no1, found it but someone was on it. We were told by another the caravan next door (who looked like a resident living in an old touring caravan) to choose any pitch like a free for all. The only pitches left were just churned up mud so we decided not to stay and moved on....

Location next to the beach but a little windy but that's to be expected.

    Disliked:

Main site looked after and tidy, touring section a dump more like a travellers site (looked like a few there) hard standings overgrown grass just churned up mud. Rubbish around people just dumping bags of rubbish next to the big empty biffa bins? Had to move bricks and wood with big screws in hidden in grass before pitching or i would have had flat tyres. Pitch stunk of fat like someone had been emptying chip oil on the stones and grass. Trainline is next to touring but its is barely noticeable so not a problem. Toilets where clean as they had a attendant in a room next to them that was cleaning them, showers had black mould around the tray. Toilet attendant creepy and just looks at you never smiling or answering when you ask where you get fresh water from, had to ask in reception chemical toilet point behind toilets. As others have said very busy with site staff racing up and down in buggies with gas bottles as the maintenance depot is next to touring.

Local attractions

The landscapes in this part of Ayrshire are stunning, so it’s no surprise that some of the country’s most famed championship golf courses, including Prestwick, Royal Troon and Turnberry, can be found in the area.

As the birthplace of Robert Burns, Ayrshire is also rich in cultural attractions and museums relating to Scotland’s national poet.

It’s easy to hop aboard the nearby ferry at Ardrossan for a day trip across the Firth of Clyde to Arran - the journey usually takes less than an hour and passengers regularly see dolphins during the crossing.

Arran has miles of beautiful forest and coastal walks, more great golf courses, and attractions such as Brodick Castle and the Arran Heritage Museum to explore.

The railway line that passes Sandylands Holiday Park also runs a limited service to the likes of Glasgow and Ayr, should visitors fancy exploring the area by train.

Must see

  • Scottish Maritime Museum (3.9 miles)
  • Burns National Heritage Park (15.1 miles)
  • Culzean Castle & Country Park (19.3 miles)
